Nacogdoches	1837	Nacogdoches was one of the parent counties of Northeast Texas created in 1837 by the Republic of Texas. The larger parent county existed under the domain of Spain from the 1700s. After Mexican independence from Spain, Texas was the separate Mexican state of Texas from 1822 to1824 and then part of the state of Coahuila-Texas from 1824 to independence in 1836.

Red River	1837	Red River was one of the parent counties of Northeast Texas created in 1837 by the Republic of Texas. There was some confusion on the national status of the part of Red River county just south of the Red River due to ambiguities about the treaty line between Spain and the United States. Settlers there in the early 1800s considered themselves residents of Miller County, Arkansas of the United States. For a brief period the capital of Miller County, Arkansas was at Pecan Point south of the Red River in what is now Texas. While jurisdiction was still not clear at the time of the Texas Revolution from Mexico in 1836, a force of men marched southward to aid the Texas army. The Republic of Texas declared its northern border with the United States to reach to the Red River.
