My scanner is finally fixed and I can scan more than a half page at a time.  There are still limitations tho -- I can't do legal sized documents, so they are in two parts.  (Click on the link to view the actual document)

Page 2: These are Thomas' answers to questions about his residence on the land he was homesteading.  It is interesting to note that Thomas says (in response to question #2) that he was born in Missouri. Others who gave testimony were John W. Haslip and Jacob A. Carter.

The following are from the Wilson Co., Kansas courthouse.  It is not clear, yet, if any of these go to Mahala's family.

Probate file X-342 -- re: Geo. W. Cook who died 03 Jul 1877.  Mahala reportedly had a brother named George.
Page 1: Dated 03 July 1877, this is a petition from Robert Cook, who represents Geo. W. Cook, dec'd.

Leigh Family Documents

This doc is from the Civil War military file of William D. Leigh who died 18 Mar 1864.  The interesting thing about this doc is that it states that Wm. was born in Marshal Co., Mississippi.
Will of Richard Leigh (Sr.)
Leigh Deeds
Humphrey Deeds
Marriage of Richard Leigh and Mary Green
Homestead Papers
Richard's testimony He states he is 56 years old and was born in TN.  W. King Davis also testified for Richard.  Jesse Henry was also on the list to testify, but wasn't needed.
Final document
Death certificate of Mary E. (Green) Leigh
Death certificate of Mary (Leigh) Redmon
Marriage License for Lennie Davis and William Leigh  and a smaller one which I think is for the marriage being filed at the courthouse.
Letter written by William D. Leigh
Death certificate of William Davis Leigh
Social Security application for Rosie Bell Hoadley:  The neatest thing about this small piece of paper is that it has Gramma's signature.  It also has that Gramma lived at 1006 N. Main St. in Mendota, IL and she worked at Fitch's Laundry & Dry Cleaners.  It is dated 08 Feb 1845.  Of genealogical interest is that she lists her birth date, place of birth and parents names.  Mom remembered that when Gramma signed up for social security, she had to prove when she was born and stuff.  I had hoped there would be more in her 'file' but I've been told by the SS place in Clinton that they usually throw away everything but the app when a person dies unless it would be of 'historical' value.
