July 1, 1891

Mercury at 112 and a half at Modesto today.  106 here at home the hottest that it has been for some years.  Mr. Crow and I went to Modesto this morning to be at Charley Crow's funeral.  The corpse came at two o'clock.  He looked very natural.  We went to Mrs. Allen's and stopped until 5 o'clock then went to the Masonic Hall where the Masons held services.  They have a good deal of ceremony to go through.  A large possession a great many of the west side folks over and the most of the kin folks.

A telegram was received in Modesto this morning from St. Helena, Napa County, announcing the death at that place of Charles L. Crow, of Crow's Landing at 9 o'clock last evening.  Deceased went to St. Helena about month ago to recuperate from complication arising from la grippe but he steadily grew worse until death relieved him of his suffering at the hour about mentioned.  Mr. Crow was aged 32 years, a native of Missouri, but has been a resident of Crow's Landing since  boyhood, where he has been engaged  in farming.  He married  a daughter of M.S. Freeman, of this place, several years ago and his wife and five small children survive to morn his loss.  Deceased was an exemplary citizen, honest in all his dealings, and a favorite with all.  He was the son of the Isaac Crow, a pioneer resident of the West Side, but how of Oakland, and a brother of the wife of Captain Morris, of Oakland.  Mrs. Walter Bell, of Atlanta, Georgia, and Mrs. William D. Bell, of Crow's Landing.  The remains will arrive on this evening's train and the funeral will take place from Masonic Hall, Modesto, tomorrow afternoon at 5 o'clock, under the auspices of Stanislaus Lodge NO. 206, F.&A.M. of which deceased was an honored member.  From the Modesto Evening News 7-3-1891

July 2, 1891

Very calm and warm mercury at 100.  Mr. Crow went up to the ranch and fixed up fences.  Frank, Ida, Herbert and I have been drying apricots all day.  Frank hired a man to help work with them this afternoon.  Herbert brought a good many down from the ranch we put them out.  Mr. Crow and I didn't get home last night from Modesto until 10' o'clock.  Mr. Carmet says he will be at the ranch tomorrow to commence threshing the barley. 

July 3,  1891

Mercury at 94 close and warm the most of the day came up a hard wind for a little while lots of dust with it .  Mr. Crow went up to the ranch.  He was working about up there.  Frank went out to the machine.  Herbert went up home today.  Sib went off on the stage this morning.  Charley went up after a load of apricots brought them down he fixed scaffolds.  Ida and I got them ready to dry and Mary spread them out.  I went up to see Judith a little while.  Charley went up to the ranch tonight after apricots.

July 4, 1891

Mr. Crow went to Newman.

Mercury at 99 considerable wind we don't feel it so warm.  Mr. Crow went to Newman and settled with Mr. Cohen for the wheat he bought. Frank went up to the ranch where the men are threshing the barley.  Charley brought a load of apricots from Herbert's we put them out and gathered more worked until two o'clock with apricots.  Charley went to Newman I got a letter from Mrs. Dr. Burke.  Mr. Crow wrote to Mr. Bradley and to the San J. Bank we had our first mess of corn today.  Thane her and Ida went to the station.

July 5, 1891

Cooler mercury at 92.  some wind this afternoon.  Mr. Crow  and Frank took the mares and colts up to the ranch.  I took dinner at Brads.  I was there, Cap and Jennie Morris came along on their way down to see me.  I was at Judith's so Jennie stopped there until after dinner.  Cap went down to see Mr. Crow they are taking of building another dam.  Ida made ice cream and Brad and Judith came down to eat it.  John Conhum, Herbert  Crow and Mr. Roundtree here for dinner.  And to eat ice cream.  Judith and I had a pleasant visit together. 

Monday July 6, 1891

Mercury at 90 not much wind was felt it is very warm.  Mr. Crow went up to the ranch and cut some flowers. Frank, Charley and I been working with the apricots all day.  Ida and Mary washed this morning.  I done up the work Ida helped with the apricots after she got through washing.  Mr. Kassans here this evening.  Thane over this afternoon.  Will Ingram and Arthur Crow down after water.

Tuesday July 7, 1891

Cool and pleasant today.  Mercury at 80 cloudy this morning, what little wind there was, was in the south east.  Mr. Crow went out to where the boys were cutting grain.  Frank was out there.  Hall was drunk on the team.  Frank had to go and see to the team.  Ida and Mary ironed Charley and I have worked with the apricots all day.  Ida helped after she got through ironing.  I got a letter from Mr. Hoyt, Mr. Crow got one from J.A. Crow and one from the An Joaquin valley Bank.

Wednesday July 8, 1891

Cool this morning, a south wind, cloudy considerable west wind cool lightning in the west the air felt very much like rain this afternoon.  Mr. Crow fixed a panel in the fence along the creek.  Frank and Charley went up to the ranch and got the apricots this afternoon.  Frank went out to the combined, Charley and I working at the apricots all day and Ida this afternoon.  Mary and Ida canning.  32 cans of apricots.  Mr. Crow got a letter from Mr. Bradley, Brad and Jimmie Crow here this afternoon.

Thursday July 9, 1891

Cool and more or less cloudy all day.  Considerable west wind this afternoon.  Mr. Crow hoeing the garden in the bottom, wrote a letter to Mr. Bradley.  Frank went up to the ranch took charley along to haul in grain.  I finished cutting and put out the apricots irrigated the yard.  Ida and I went out to Frank Bells this afternoon took a box of eggs to the station.  We met  I. P. Crow and Bell Crow on their way home from Modesto.  Will Winters got kicked by a horse this evening, broke his nose and finger.

Friday July 10, 1891

Cool cloudy hard west wind in the afternoon looks very much like rain tonight.  Mr. Crow went up to the ranch this afternoon.  Frank was at the ranch and at the combined.  Charley dug the potatoes in the bottom.  I am working in the fruit, done some washing and ironed.  Mr. Crow's shirts.  Ida and I went up to see Judith awhile.  Herbert went to Modesto after Stella Crow.  Brad and Judith down awhile.  Frank Bell and Eve line Crow here this afternoon and J. A. Crow here tonight.

Saturday July 11, 1891

Cool considerable north wind today.  Mr. Crow has been choreing around.  Frank up to the ranch and to the combined.  He took some honey out to send to the men at the combined.  I finished putting the dried apricots together and jobbing around took off a  list of Mr. Crows notes.  I have the headache pretty badly.  J. A. Crow left this morning for his ranch.  Ida went out to the station and to get my clothes from the washer woman.  She took Estella up to stay with Laura tonight.  Mr. Elfers here and bought Mr. Crow barley.  Mr. Boggs here to buy it his evening.  Johnnie brought in a load of chicken feed.

Sunday July 12, 1891

Emma is going to Santa Cruz for a vacation.

Calm and warmer mercury at 88.  Mr. Crow, Frank and I have been around all day.  Mary and Ida went down to the lower orchard and got some pears and peaches.  We had company all afternoon.  John, Nellie Stewart and baby Julie and Harold Williams, Herbert and Laura Crow  Johnnie Cohorn Myra and Evelyn Crow.  We had a pleasant visit from them.  The girls said that  they had a grand time at the Yosemite. Stella came down from Laura's this evening.  I packed for Santa Cruz.

Monday July 13, 1891

Warm and close mercury at 94 today.  Ida and I left early this morning for Modesto.  Ida kindly volunteered to bring me to Modesto.  We called at Brads to see Myra and Evelyn   both were down to see me last evening.  Stella was going to take care of Bennie whilst Ida brought me over.  I am stopping at Mrs. Allen's.  Nellie and I went down to do some shopping.  I got me a hat and a pair of shoes.  Mr. Semple cashed a check for me.  Nellie and I stopped in and got some ice cream sodas.  Mr. Allen and Rene are both sick.

Tuesday July 14, 1891

A little cooler today.  Mollie came in the morning and spent the day.  She looks badly.  We went down after our hats and shoes.  I went into see Dr. Remington to get him to smooth off my plate a little.  Mr. Bartles got our tickets came and picked our trunks up took them down and checked them ready for us to start to Santa Cruz in the morning.  I seen A. L. Sharere and Lee he says that math's Rice Mrs. Albert, Mr. Bartles, Nellie Rose and I are all going tomorrow.  Hope we will have a pleasant trip.

Mary E. "Mollie" Rose Crow was the wife of Uncle Ben's brother Lewis Jacob Crow.  Their children were: Tom, Benjamin Frank Crow, raised by Uncle Ben and Aunt Emma, Frank married Ida Ward. Their children were Bennie, Herbert, Estella Crow who married Mr. Conant, Edith Crow who married Wiley Epley.

Train trip from Modesto to Santa Cruz

Warm this day.  Nellie and I left Modesto at 6:15 this morning for Santa Cruz.  Billy Bartles came along to help us along.  We had a pleasant party of us.  Mattie Shearer, Mrs. Rice, Nellie Bartles and I left Modesto.  We had a 7 hour wait at Lathrop and the Rev. Mr. Baldrige wife and three children of Salida and a Mrs. Lambert of Denver found us at Lathrop.  We made a pleasant time.  We went by Niles to San Jose and then we changed to the narrow gage and came to Santa Cruz by way of the big trees.

Thursday July 16, 1891

Cool and pleasant today.  We got to Mr. Brannacks last night here we had engaged board and lodging the rooms didn't suit and a lady there with the whooping cough so Mattie Shearer and I found pleasanter rooms and we moved to them.  Mrs. Abbot has room further down town.  Mattie and I went to see her this morning.  She came to see us this afternoon.  We are pleasantly situated our land lady is very pleasant and a perfect lady.  I wrote a letter to Mr. Crow.

Friday July 17, 1891

Cool and foggy this morning, warm and pleasant through the day.  Mrs. Shearer, Nellie Rose and I went out a waling this morning we passed Mrs. Briggs place they have a lovely yard and grounds.  In the afternoon Mrs. Fitzgibbon's took her carriage and Mrs. Shears, Nellie, Callie and I down to the beach.  There was a large crowd there, a great many in bathing.  The sea was calm not many breakers rolling.  I have the headache badly today.  Mrs. Rice in to see us.  Mrs. Fitzgibbon's and daughter are very pleasant.

Saturday July 18, 1891

A fog this morning but pleasant through he day windy late this evening.  I have had the headache badly all day.  This evening I went with Miss Rene Fitzgibbon to the train to meet her sister.  Mrs. Shearer and Nellie went to the beach all forenoon this afternoon Mr. and Miss Fitzgibbon took them down town a shopping.  They saw the soldiers a marching, a thousand soldiers came in on the train today.  Mrs. Abbot up to see me.  Nellie got a letter from the post master about  a registered letter.

Sunday July 19, 1891

Cool and foggy this morning bright and pleasant through the day.  Mrs. Shearer, Nellie, Callie and I went for a walk this morning.  Mattie and I called on Mrs. Mary Underwood.  We have been sitting around the most of the day talking to one and another, and to Mrs. Fitzgibbon.  I wrote to Mr. Crow.  Nellie wrote to her mother.  She got a letter from her mother.  Mrs. Fitzgibbon was a friend from the city here a visiting Miss. Josie Fitzgibbon's come home from Berkeley this evening.

Monday July 20, 1891

Cool and foggy this morning bright and pleasant through the day.  Mattie, Nellie, Callie and I went down to the beach and stayed until noon.  The military had a musical concert.  There were a large crowd present.  This evening Mrs. Fitzgibbon took her surrey and took Mattie, Nellie Callie and I out to Camp Allen to see the guards drill and march it was quite a sight.  I think there  over a thousand of them.  A great many of the citizens out to see them.  Josie started to school today.

Tuesday July 21, 1891

Foggy as usual a warm bright and pleasant through the day.  Nellie and Mattie went down shopping. This morning.  Mrs. Fitzgibbon took Nellie and I to hunt a washerwoman this afternoon.  Mrs. Abbot to visit us Mr. Shearer came this evening.  I looked for Mr. Crow tonight he thought he would be here.  I got a letter from Mr. Crow, Ida and brother John.  Mrs. Merrit and the children and Mr. Marse came here today to stay a week and another young lady were having music tonight singing and playing the piano.

Wednesday July 22, 1891

Cool and foggy this morning warm and pleasant through the day.  Mr. and Mrs. Shearer, Mrs. Abbot, Nellie and I went to the beach.  There was a musical concert given by the guards.  Nellie got a registered letter from Herbert with some money in it.  Rene went to the Post Office with her to get it.  Mr. Crow came this evening .  Mr. Crow stayed at Frank Bells last night.  Isaac and Eveline are there.

Thursday July 23, 1891

Cold and foggy this morning.  Cool and windy all day.  Mr. Crow and Mr. Shearer out riding in the forenoon.  Nellie and I helped Mrs. Fitzgibbon iron, and helped about the dishes.  She has the house full now.  This afternoon Mr. Crow, Mr. and Mrs. Shearer, Nellie and I went out to the twin lakes we went on the street cars as we came back we met Mr. and Mrs. Kane.  Mr. and Mrs. Johns going to the lakes. Miss Turner in last night and we had music.  Mrs. Mause and Mrs. Merril are musical. 

Friday July 24, 1891

Cool and foggy in the morning.  Warmer today than yesterday.  Mr. Crow and Mr. Shearer riding around.  They went to Soquel and Camp Capitola in the afternoon.  They went to the beach and out to see the soldier's parade.  Nellie, Mattie and Mrs. Merrit went down shopping this afternoon.  Nellie, Mattie and I went out walking.  Nellie got a letter said that her mother and father would be down in a couple of weeks.  Mr. Crow seen Mrs. Freeman down town.  Last evening Mr. Crow, Nellie, and I called on Mrs. Briggs and Mrs. Rice we had a pleasant visit with them.

Saturday July 25, 1891

Not much fog this morning the least that we have had since we have been here.  Warm today Mr. Crow got up before five  o'clock this morning left for Stockton on his way to Trinity Co.  Mr. Shearer took him to the train.  I wrote to Mollie crow, Nellie wrote to Mollie and to Rene.  Mr. Shearer took Mattie, Nellie, Callie and I to the beach when we got back there was a letter here from Pike to Mr. Crow so I answered it.  I met Mr. and Mrs. Leitch of Stockton, Mrs. Tullock, Mrs. Husband, Miss Shoemake and Mrs. Freeman of Modesto at the beach.  There were a great many people in bathing.

Sunday July 26, 1891

Cool this morning, but pleasant through the day.  Mr. Narse had a camera and he took our pictures in a group.  Mrs. Fitzgerrable and René and Josie, Mr. Leanard, Mr and Mrs. Merril, Howard and Bess.  Mrs. Shearer, Nellie Rose and Callie and myself and Miss Merrick, Mrs. Rice in to see us we walked home with her and got a paper fro home it gave an account of Mr. Lewis of Modesto.  A public administrator, considerable money disappeared with him.  They think a woman is in the case.

Monday July 27, 1891

Cool and cloudy or foggy until nearly noon before the sun shone out.  Mr. Shearer took us out for a long ride this morning we went out to the cliff road out by the tabernacle the lighthouse and back through the outer part of town.  Nellie and I went downtown and got Callie and I some rubbers.  We got some soap, starch and blueing, we are going to do our own washing it would take the purse of Fortuneless to pay wash bills.  Mrs. Merrill, Howard, Bess and Rene went to Capitola.  Nellie cut out a dress for Callie and we have been sewing on it.  Nellie got a letter fro Rene saying that the family will be down tomorrow.

Tuesday July 28, 1891

A heave fog most of the day almost like rain the sun shone out a little while this afternoon but cool and foggy again this evening, been too cool for comfort all day.  Nellie and I washed this morning.  I wrote a letter to brother John, I received one  from Elwood Chantry, Mr. Shearer and Nellie took a long ride this morning this evening they are going down to the train to meet Mr. and Mrs. Allen and Rene.  Nellie finished Callie's sateen dress.  Mrs. Turner into see us last evening.  Mrs. Merrill, Miss Allen went back to Berkeley today.

Wednesday July 29, 1891

Cold and foggy all forenoon.  Sun shone out warm a little while this afternoon.  Cool and foggy this evening.  I helped Mrs. Fitzgibbon with her work this morning wrote a letter to Ida this afternoon.  Mr. and Mrs. Allen, Rene Allen , Mrs. And Mrs. Shearer, Rene Fitzgibbon, Nellie and I went to the beach.  I met a great many of may old fiends.  Mr. and Mrs. Allen and Rene came last night Nellie and them were house hunting all forenoon.  They found one of six rooms they rented ready furnished for 15 dollars a month.  Nellie is very sick tonight with the sick headache.  I got a letter from Mr. Crow he is at Red Bluff at Mr. Elmore' on his was to Trinity, Co.

Thursday July 30, 1891

Cool and foggy all forenoon the sun shone out awhile cool again this evening.  I had the sick headache badly all day.  Mattie and Mr. Shearer went a riding.

Friday July 31, 1891

Cool and foggy this morning but the sun shone out warm this afternoon.  Mattie and Nellie went down shopping this morning.  Rene came home for dinner with them.  Mrs. Allen and Mrs. Shoemake came up to see us this afternoon.  Mr. and Mrs. Shearer, Rene, Nellie and I went to the beach.  I met an old lady friend a lady; I knew 25 years ago.  A good many bathers there several of the preachers from the Christian State meeting on the ground.  I met Mrs. Leitch and Mrs. Heall from Santa Rosa an old friend of May Nash, Rene, Nellie and I went down town this evening back by the baker's and butcher shop.

Saturday August 1, 1891

Another cold foggy morning, but the sun shone out bright this afternoon.  Nellie, Rene, Mr. and Mrs. Shearer, Mr. and Mrs. Allen and Mr. and Mrs. Shoemake took their lunch and had a picnic at Camp Capitola .  When they got there was a free barbecue said that they had lovely meat.  Mr. Shearer took me to the Tabernacle to the Christian state meeting.  I met a good many of many old fiends.  Brother Pike came today Lena Crow was there.  Mrs. Wilmot, Mr. and Mrs. McCorkle and many others I used to know.  Mr. and Mrs. Briggs and a Mr. Hope came to board in the house where we are.

Sunday August 2, 1891

Cool all day foggy this morning and again this evening.  Mr. Shearer and I went to the tabernacle to church to hear the great Evangelist Mr. Updike preach and he has a magnificent singer with him.  The words seem to blow from his mouth without any effort on is part.  We came back for dinner and then Mattie and I went out on a long walk, Mr. and Mrs. Briggs and Nellie went down to the beach. Mr. and Mrs. Stetson old time friends came to see me.  I had a pleasant visit with them.  They have sold their place and live here in town.  Mrs. Rice came to see us this afternoon.  Mr. and Mrs. Briggs are very pleasant. 

Monday August 3, 1891

Cold and foggy as usual this morning.  Sun shone out awhile today.  A heavy fog this evening again.  Mr. Stetson came and took me on a long ride today.  We went down by the sea bright, the twin lake and through Camp Capitola and then through Soquel we had a pleasant drive.  This afternoon Mrs. Fitzgibbon took Mrs. Shearer, Mrs. Briggs and I to the Tabernacle to church from there we went to the cliff road.  We drove through the Park and then home.  I got a letter from Ida and one for Mr. Crow from Mr. Bradley.  Rene, Nellie Mr. Shearer and Mr. Briggs went down town this evening didn't get back until 9 o'clock.

Tuesday August 4, 1891

Cool and foggy this morning warm through the day.  I went to Garfield Park to the meeting in the forenoon.  This afternoon we all went to the beach.  A large crowd there.  The Charleston is in harbor and a great many people and guns aboard of her.  Mr. Shearer, Mattie, Nellie and MR. Allen went aboard of her.  I got a letter from Mr. Crow he is on his way to Trinity Co. Jimmie Crow as along with home.  I seen C.P. Crow, Mary and J.J. Nash and many of our old friends.  The girls are making candy tonight.

Wednesday August 5, 1891

The shone out this morning the first time since we came here three weeks ago, warm the wind blew hard and cool this afternoon.  Nellie and I washed this morning and I took a bath this afternoon.  Mr. and Mrs. Briggs, Mr. and Mrs. Shearer, Mr. hope and I went down on the beach to watch the bathers.  Mrs. Alena and Rene came and Mrs. Fitzgibbon took them out riding.  Mrs. Rice and Mrs. Semple in and we had a merry time talking. The girls we saw and the beach.  Josie and us made chocolate and walnut crams. The Charleston left port this morning.

Thursday August 6, 1891

A bright morning.  I went to the Tabernacle this morning heard Mr. Updyke preach took dinner at the Restaurant and stayed for the meeting in the afternoon.  Brought Mrs. Nash and Mrs. Bowder home with me for lunch and Rene took them back.  I went with them and came back with Rene. I got a letter from Mr. Crow. He was at Trinity Center.  Nellie, Mattie and Mr. and Mrs. Briggs went to the beach this afternoon.

Friday August 7, 1891

A very warm day for Santa Cruz.  I have been around home all day didn't go to the meeting.  Shearer, Mr. Briggs, Mr. Hope, Hr. Allen and some other hired a boat went out on the ocean a mile or two a fishing caught some fish, started at 5 o'clock this morning, some of the company got sea sick.  Nellie Rene and Josie went down town this evening and got some things for their picnic tomorrow.  Mrs. Semple here this evening.  Nellie and I went to the store after dark to get some provisions for Mrs. Semple to take to the picnic tomorrow.

Saturday August 8, 1891

Was cooler than yesterday.  A fog came in late this evening much cooler tonight.  Mr. and Mrs. Shearer, Mr. and Mr. Briggs, Mr. Hope, Joe, Rene and Nellie Rose went to the Big Trees on a picnic then were a great many of the Modesto folks along.  Mr. Fitzgibbon took Mr. Raymar and I to Garfield Park to church.  I got very sick had to leave the meeting house awhile.  Mr. Fitzgibbon came home after service and I stayed until evening bought Virginia home with me for lunch.  Mrs. Fitzgibbon and Nellie went back tonight to meeting.

Sunday August 9, 1891

Foggy  awhile this morning, pleasant through the day.  Foggy again this evening.  This afternoon Mr. Shearer took me down to the beach.  I met  Cora, Paul, George and Fannie and their children.  I had a pleasant visit with them this evening. Mr. and Mrs. Riggs, Mr. Shearer Nellie, Mrs. Fitzgibbon went to Mrs. Briggs we had a lively visit with them.  Mrs. Turner, Mrs. Semple, Mrs. Rice, Mrs. Rayner were there.  Tonight Mr. and Mrs. Shearer,  Nellie, Mrs. Semple, and Rayner went to church to hear the great Revivalist Mr. Updyke .  Allie Dinneck sent us the pictures that was taken of us.

Monday August 10, 1891

Cool and foggy this morning but warm through the day.  I helped Rene with the work this morning and wrote to Mr. Crow and to Ida.  Rene took Mrs. Fitzgibbon's, Nellie and I to the beach this afternoon.  Nellie helped Rene about the dinner.  She wrote to Herbert.  She went in a bathing at the mouth of the creek her first attempt.  Her mother Mattie Sheaver, Mr. and Mrs. Shoemake and several others she liked much better than she expected the breakers were so large they were afraid to go in the surf.  I saw Cash and Cora.

Tuesday August 11, 1891

Cool in the morning but warm through the day.  Nellie and I washed and in the afternoon Mr. Shearer took me over to Garfield Park.  I came back and stayed until four 0'clock then Mrs. Fitzgibbon's took Nellie and I out to the Soldiers Camp to see the dress parade. May Nash came up and took lunch with us and I went down with her to hear Mr. Updike preach and Mr. Hanes sing.  Nellie went to the beach so did Mr. and Mrs. Riggs and Mr. and Mrs. Shearer.  Mr. Hope came back with me from church.

Wednesday August 12, 1891

Cool this morning but not much fog warm this afternoon.  Nellie and I ironed this morning.  This afternoon Mr. and Mrs. Vallen came they were looking at some property that they are thinking of buying, took Nellie along to see it.  Then spent part of the afternoon with us.  Cora and Fannie Crow came to see me this afternoon.  Both look pretty well, George bought a nice carriage and a house, came in style, Nellie and I called on Mrs. Turner this evening.  Mr. Shearer and Mollie Turner went to the beach she brought her nice wrapper home from the dressmakers.

Thursday August 13, 1891

Warm through the middle of the day.  George Crow and Fannie came by this morning took me riding.  We went to camp Capitola and Soquel and back home and in the afternoon Mr. Fitzgibbon, Rene Nellie and I went up the cliff road on a ride came back rode up Pacific Avenue and had ice cream.  Mr. and Mrs. Briggs, Mr. and Mrs. Shearer went to Camp Capitola this afternoon.  Mrs. Rice Mabel and Ruby came to tell us good by they are going home in the morning.  Mrs. Semple and Blanch came to see us.

Cooler today the sky look murky and a smoky fire in Ben Lomond mountains.  Mr. Shearer took Mattie and me to see Mrs. Stetson we spent a pleasant afternoon.  Mr. Stetson brought me home.  Rene and Nellie went to the station to meet Herbert Rose, he came to see us before he goes to the mine, he doesn’t look very well. Mr. and Mrs. Briggs went to the beach Mr. Hope here tonight to tell us goodbye he is going home tomorrow.

Ida Crow's baby died.

Cold and foggy this morning warm through the day. Herbert Nellie and I went down to Mrs. Allen and stayed until after dinner and then we all went down to the beach.  Herbert and I took hot salt water baths.  Herbert and Nellie went out to the soldier's parade.  Mrs. Briggs and Mrs. Semple took them out.  I saw George and Fannie they said that IJ.A. Crow  and wife were coming to Santa Cruz tonight.  I.T. Nash and his friend he said that his mother got home all right.  I got a letter from Mollie Crow she said that Ida had a baby and that it died.

Cool and foggy this morning almost like rain and so it is tonight.  Through the middle of the day warm. Mr. Briggs, Herbert and Nellie and Mrs. Semple went in a carriage.  Mr. and Mrs. Allen and Rene in another Mr. and Mrs. Shearer, Josie Fitzgibbon's and I in another went up in the mountains to see and apple orchard that Mr. Allen is talking of buying.  They stayed here for dinner.  We packed to go home tomorrow, but Herbert,, Mr. Shearer, Mr. Allen and Mr. Briggs are going fishing in the morning so we are going to wait another day.

Monday August 17, 1891

Cold and foggy this morning warm thorough the day. Herbert, Mr. Briggs, Mr. Allen and Mr. Shearer went fishing.   We left Mrs. Fitzgibbon's and went down to Mrs. Allen's to stay until we started home.  Mattie and Mr. Shearer took dinner with us.  Mr. Shearer took the surrey and Herbert, Nellie and I up the beach five or six miles as we came back we interviewed the light house on the coast.  We went down on the beach as and met friends J. A. Crow and wife was there and Mrs. Leitch a Mrs. Smith and Nettie Robinson.  This evening Mr. and Mrs. Allen, Herbert, Nellie, Rene and I went to a musical dog and pony and monkey show it was good .  I saw George and family and Cash and Cora there.  Mr. Sheaver and wife in to see us.  Miss. Simple in to see us last night.

Cold and foggy almost like a rain this morning warm this afternoon.  Herbert, Nellie and I left Santa Cruz this morning at 7:50.  Mr. Allen and Rene went to the train with us.  We got to Esther's about 11:20 o'clock.   Herbert went over to the city and stayed until evening and then took Nellie and Callie back to the city to stay tonight.  Emma and Estelle Crow are here.  I wrote a postal to Mr. Perley about my paper.  I went up to Edith's and stayed all night.  Esther went as far as the store with me.  Herbert Crow is at Edith's he looks miserable.

It has been cool and foggy or cloudy all day not seen the sun Edith went with Wiley to the store Wednesday and Saturday is a busy day.  The store and Edith always helps.  I washed this morning took a bath and then went down and spent the day with Esther.  I wrote a letter to Mr. Crow.  I have had the headache badly all day.  I came back to Edith's tonight.  Herbert had brought Nellie over to Edith's and had going back to the city, but is coming back to stay tonight thinks he will go to Modesto tomorrow.  Herbert Crow went up home today.  Nellie Rose is going to stay with Edith awhile.

Thursday August 20, 1891

Warm today the sun shone out bright this morning.  Edith and I ironed today.  I have been mending for Edith all day.  Edith made a doll a suit of clothes and dressed it for a little girl.  Nellie was ripping rimming for her dress she wrote a letter to her mother and one to Uncle Ben.  Wiley busy in the store.  Nellie, Edith and I went out a walking we went by where are building a new house we went to see it Wiley coming to see us tonight.

Very close and warm today for Oakland.  Nellie, Edith and I washed Nellie's clothes and some for Edith we got through.  Esther came up and stopped awhile and Mrs. Jennings came when they left I went over to Eveline and spent the day.  Jennie Morris came over and stayed awhile with us.  Aunt Mi had cone to Stockton.  Eveline and the girl are alone.  I came back to Edith's tonight.  Herbert Rose hadn't gone home yet, so he came over will go home tomorrow.  Edith, Esther,  and expect to go to hear Dr. Dipple Lecture on the yellow star Park tonight.

Hot, Hotter, Hottest, very warm today.  I went down to Esther and Emma went with me to get some cloth to make me a wrapper.  Emmer is going to make it for me.  I came back and went over to stay with Eveline.  I got a letter from Mr. Crow He has gotten home from his hunt.  Had a grand time, he stopped in Redding 2 days and Dixon 3 days.  I wrote to Mrs. Hoyt and to Ida Crow, Nellie and Edith ironed this morning Herbert Rose went to Modesto today.  The lecture last night was fine.

Warm today cooler than yesterday.  Fog came up this evening make the air feel comfortable.  Eveline and I spent the day at Jennie Morris we had a pleasant visit with her I went back to Evelyn's tonight.  Edith and Nellie Rose came over to Eveline's tonight to see me.  Wiley, Edith, Nellie and Esther went out to the city and went to the part.

Cool and foggy this morning sunshine out while bright wind came up been cool all day foggy again. This evening.  I came over from Eveline this morning.  I helped Edith and Nellie wash. Esther had my wrapper fit came back to Edith's for dinner then we all and Stella with us went shopping.  I got me a tooth brush and Edith a black sateen skirt.  Nellie got her cloth for a dress and wrapper.  Nellie got a letter from her mother for her to be in the city tomorrow.  She is in Santa Cruz today.

Tuesday August 25, 1891

Cool and cloudy or foggy all day.  I left Eveline early this morning and came to Edith's.  I found Edith and Nellie both sick sort a cholera.  I had had the sick headache and we had a sick time of it.  Nellie and I made out to get the ironing done.  I had one of my spells in the afternoon.  Nellie got some better.  Mr. Allen cam after here and took her to the park and theatre at night.  She stayed with them tonight.  I got a letter from Mr. Crow he wants me to come home Frank fell off of the windmill got bummed considerably.

Cold and foggy most all day the sun peeped out a little while this afternoon.  I went to Esther's, Emma finished my wrapper also fitted it.  Went to see Minnie and Evelyn.  Mr. and Mr. Allen came over from the city this morning went down to station to see them they will go home tomorrow expect to go also.  Edith, Wiley and I are going out to the Piedmont Baths this evening to hear the music.  Emma will come up this evening and bring my dress.  Got a letter from Mr. Crow and one from Mrs. Hoyt.  We had a magnificent time at the baths tonight.

Emma traveled back to Crows Landing from Santa Cruz.

Cool and foggy this morning got warm where I was before night.  Wiley took my trunk down to the station got my ticket and got the truck checked.  Edith went down to the train with me and saw me  on the right train for home.  It got my dinner at the Castle house and went on the west side train.  They backed around so much they didn't leave the station until four o'clock. I found Jimmie Crow there he took me home.  Frank Bell, I.P. Crow, Derling and Haner was at the station.  I got home all right my first experience  traveling alone.  Mr. Crow glad to see me they all seemed glad.  Bennie knew me, Ida doing well, Franks side pretty sore he fell off the windmill.

Cool and pleasant cloudy or foggy all day.  Mr. Crow and I working in the fruit to the most of the day drying peaches.  Johnnie Cochin helped awhile some men came after peaches .  Johnnie went to the ranch gathered for him and brought a load home tonight brought a load down this morning.  Frank went out to the station brought my trunk in he wrote to Mr. Newman for a check for some wheat he bought of him.  Mr. Welch came yesterday stayed all night and got some peaches to take home today.  Brad down this morning and brought a large cantaloupe.

Today has been very pleasant enough wind to make it comfortable.  Mr. Crow, Johnnie and I have been cutting and putting out peaches to dry the most of the day.  Mary and I canned 14 cans of peaches.  Mr. Crow gathered a load of peaches, plums and pears for a man and woman that came from the Arroya Puerta for them.  There were here for dinner a man by the name of Meyers came to see about ranching  stock.  Mr. Crow hadn't seen him for 25 years.  Mrs. Andy down here tonight.  I had a letter from cousin Elwood today that came while I was away.

Sunday August 30,1891

A little warmer today but pleasant.  Mr. Crow around home today.  This evening we gathered a box of peaches and one of plums to take to Mrs. Allen in the morning.  Mr. Crow got a letter and a check from Mr. Newman last night for some wheat.  Johnnie went out to the station took Bennie with him and they went to church.  Bennie behaved finely in church.   Mr. Crow and Frank went across the river and killed a coon that the dogs treed.  May and Mr. Brown went to Modesto.  She came over yesterday to see Mary.  Mr. and Mrs. Ingram and Mr. Roundtree here this afternoon.

Monday August 31, 1891

Warm today mercury at 95 considerable wind this afternoon.  Mr. Crow got up before four o'clock went to Modesto and was going to Stockton.  Went to have Mr. Sparks mortgage cancelled.  Mary and I churned and washed. Ida and I mended the clothes.  I picked up and gathered about 4 bucket of peaches to put out to dry tomorrow.  Ida and Mary helped some to gather them.  Mary went out the to  washer woman and to the station.  Frank and Johnnie went up to the ranch this morning.  Commenced to irrigate the alfalfa up there today.  Frank still feels miserable fro the hurt when he fell from the windmill.  Mr. Kittrell and Mr. Latta were here today.  I wrote a letter to Esther Rose last night sent to the office by Mr. Crow today.

Yesterday, at 10 a.m., at the residence of Rev. E.C. Latta, near Newman, John A. Orr and Miss Linna Latta were united in the holy bonds of matrimony, Re. Mr. Cowan, of Stockton, officiating.  Only the relatives of the contracting parties were present.  The wedding was followed by a dinner and the happy couple left on the afternoon train for the seacoast.  The groom is one of Stanislaus' most popular school teachers and the bide is the charming daughter of Rev. and Mrs. E.C. Latta.  They will return in about a week and take up  their residence at Ceres, where Mr. Orr has been selected as principal of the public schools.  From August 21, 1891 of the Stanislaus County Weekly News

Warm today mercury at 95 Frank was up at the ranch where he is irrigating the alfalfa.  Mary ironed this morning and Ida done up the work.  I cut and put out peaches to dry this evening.  I gathered a lot to can tomorrow.  Mr. Crow didn't get home tonight.  Harry is still over here.  Ida got a letter Stella.

Emma went to Newman to have a tooth pulled.

Mercury 95 more breeze than yesterday and didn’t feel so warm. Mr. Crow came home from Modesto this afternoon.  He gathered plums and peaches and helped put some out to dry.  May and I put up 31 cans large cans of peaches.  I cleaned the store room to put the fruit away in this afternoon. Took two sacks of peaches this is dry and been working with the fruit all afternoon.  Thane over this afternoon.  She was suffering with the tooth ache.  Got the wagon went to Newman to have it pulled.  Frank up to the ranch where he is irrigating the alfalfa.

Thursday September 3, 1891

Ten degrees cooler today mercury at 85.  Mr. Crow and I worked at plums and peaches putting them out to dry.  Ida, Mary and I put up 25 cans of tomatoes and made 8 bottles of peach preserves.  I sealed a few peaches to dry.  Mr. Crow wrote to John and to Mr. Ray and to Mr. Moorehead.  Herbert Crow came over today says that his hap is worse and his ma had gone up to the retreat to home.  Herbert, Glen, Johnnie and Mary went out to the new school house to a dance tonight.  Jonnie and Frank fixing the checks out in the Alfalfa field to water.

Friday September 4, 1891

A little warmer today mercury at 89.  Mr. Crow and I cut and put out some peaches to dry.  We gathered a lot of prunes, plums, peaches and pears for Mrs. Moorehead.  Her, Lee and Frannie came down and got a lot of fruit and honey stayed for dinner.  Mary and Ida give the house a good sweeping.  Amy is so sleepy today said they had a fine time at their dance last night.  Lee took a hound puppy home with home.  Frank and Johnnie are irrigating in the field next to Brads.  Herbert and I went out to the station we took a box of peaches and sent to Oakland to Esther Rose.

Saturday September 5, 1891

Cloudy with an occasional sprinkle of rain.  Considerable wind looks like we might have a hard shower tonight.  Mr.  Crow and I made mush for the dogs, burnt bones for the chickens.  I cleaned the hen house and hens nests, lined them and made new nests.  We put out a few peaches today.  We had to take what we could and leave the balance.  Frank irrigating.  Johnnie went up to the ranch, but back again tonight.  Harry Crow went home today.  Ida and Herbert went out to the station.  I got a letter from Mary Patchett and one from Esther Rose.  Mr. Garder and Mr. Snyder here.  Mr. Crow paid Mr. Snyder for his sacks.

Sunday  September 6, 1891

Warm and close today mercury at 92.  The wind blew up cool this evening.  Mr. Crow been around home all day and so have I.  It didn't rain last night although it looked very much like it .  Mr. and Mrs. Ingram here this afternoon.  Frank and Ida spent the day at Tom Crows.  Herbert and Johnnie went out to Crows Landing to Sunday School.  They have moved the Sunday School from our school house to the new school house at the landing.  John, Clara and the rest of the camping party got home last night.

Monday September 7, 1891

Mercury at 92 thought it didn't seem near so warm today as yesterday.  We had a good breeze.  Mr. Crow and I Herbert Crow and Ida worked peeling peaches and putting hem out we have plums.  Mary and I washed this afternoon.  Frank and Herbert went up to the ranch.  Frank is fixing to water the little field.  Mary Crow and I pealed peaches and put them out all afternoon.  Ida was mending the clothes.  Mrs. Ingram over this afternoon.  Mr. Crow wrote a letter and sent a check to the San Joaquin Valley bank for 190 dollars and some cents.  Glen Crow started to San Jose to go to school.

It was very warm and close awhile in the morning, cloudy , wind blew pretty hard from the west rained a hard shower with several claps of hard thunder.   Sprinkled a little two or three time in the afternoon.  Mr. Crow, Mary and I gathered the prunes scolded and put them out to dry in the afternoon.  Frank took Mr. Crow out to Frank Bells to stay tonight will take the train in the morning or Oakland on his way up to Somona Ca. . A letter came for Mr. Crow from Mr. Grubbl with a check in it for grain sold by him.  Herbert her tonight.

Cloudy and cool today a strong west wind this afternoon looks like it might rain to night.  Frank irrigating up at the ranch today.  He finished the little field last night.  I had the sick headache last night.  I haven’t done much today .  Mary ironed.  Frank and Ida went to the station this afternoon.  Herbert went over to his Pa's to stay until he gets better.  I got a letter from Stella saying her Pa's was pretty bad off, J.A. Crow here and paid off his notes.  Reeves busy here and took the puppies.  I got a letter from Mantie Rose he wanted Uncle Ben and I to come down to his mother's to see him.

Today has been lovely.  Just enough wind and warm enough to be pleasant.  Mary, Ida and I have had a busy day pealing peaches and putting them out to dry.  We gathered them all this evening will work on them tomorrow.  Frank got up at 3 o'clock this morning went out to the train he is going to the Crystal Springs to see his pad.  He is pretty sick.  Johnnie finished irrigating this afternoon at the upper place. Came down here tonight.   Mr. Crow got a letter from the San J. Valley Bank.

Friday September 11, 1891

Today has been calm and lovely.  Some breeze last this evening.  Ida, Mary and I put out a lot of peaches to dry.  We have some to can tomorrow and that will finish the peaches for this year, except the Indian Peaches they are not ripe yet.  I made ten ten jars of plum preserves been busy all day.  Ida went out to the station after frank but he didn't come.  Johnnie went to Modesto after the horse and wagon that Herbert took home with him.  Thane here this afternoon.

Very pleasant today calm in the forenoon some wind from the south this afternoon.  Frank has heard from Dr. Burke tonight he says that his Pa is better.  Ida, Mary and I put up 18 cans of peaches the last of our cling peaches.  We put out the last of the prunes and plums to dry makes a finish of the fruit.  Mr. Crow got a letter and warehouse receipts from Mrs. Bradley and a letter and a check for the same grain.  Ida went out to the station after Frank.  Brad here this evening.

Today calm and pleasant until late this evening, the wind blew up cool.  Frank stayed at home today and took care of Bennie.  Ida and I went out to Em Walden's.  Em is sick again.  Isadore and Eveline went out to Ems last night came back home with us this evening.  Em was better.  I wrote a letter to Mr. Crow this evening.  I got a letter from my niece Lizzie Sellier of Farait Hills Placer, Ca.

Cloudy some today with a south wind.  Frank and Johnnie worked up to the ranch this forenoon this afternoon fixed the fence in the river hauled wood tonight caught chickens.  Ida and Mary washed I done up the work gathered up the dried plums,

 I done a good deal of mending.  I wrote to Cousin Elwood and to Lizzie Sellier.  Frank caught 4 dozen chickens and took them to the station tonight.

Cloudy had a hard shower or rain today.  Thunder and lightning this afternoon.  Frank and Johnnie up to the ranch in the forenoon this afternoon hauling wood.  Mr. Roundtree here for supper and him and Johnnie went coon hunting tonight.  Mary ironed Ida and I done the work.  I went up to Brad's awhile came back by Thanes and stopped awhile.  Sue Hail was up at Brads She was going to put up peaches.  Ida got a letter from Ethel saying that her pa wasn’t much better.

Wednesday September 16, 1891

Today has been mild and lovely.  Frank and Johnnie went to the ranch this forenoon.  This afternoon Frank and Ida went to the station.  Johnnie hauled wood I cleaned the outside of the window in my room, irrigated the yard burnt sulphur in all of the closets.  Mary and I cleaned the walls of the house down and washed the outside of the windows.  Lizzie and Loyd Crow and Kate Kilburn down this afternoon.  Thane over awhile.  We hear from Lewis Crow he isn't much better.  Aunt Em Walden is worse again.  Isaac didn't think that she would get well.

Lizzie was Elizabeth Madison Braley, widow of Benjamin Tucker Crow who died in 1886.  Benjamin Tucker Crow was the 5^th child of John Bradford Crow and Parthania Eastin.  Lloyd was the son of Benjamin Tucker Crow and Elizabeth.  He became a medical doctor.  Lloyd was born Oct. 10, 1883.  Died August 18, 1982 in Palo Alto, California.

Thursday September 17, 1891

Pleasant today a little warm through the middle of the day.  Frank and Johnny up to the ranch.  Branding mules in the forenoon this afternoon they helped Ida and May wash the kitchen walls.  I washed my windows and cleaned the yard.  I went to Thanes and up to Brad's to see if I could get any Sapalin to wash the walls.  I couldn't so I drove out to the landing and got some sand soap that answered the purpose.  I met George and Fannie, Fannie said that she was coming down to see me today.  She didn't come.  Cash Crow came down and spent the afternoon with us we had a pleasant visit together.

Friday September 18, 1891

Today has been very pleasant what little wind there was from the east blowing considerable.  At night from the west.  Frank and Johnnie up to the ranch a couple of men brought some stock to the ranch.  I cleaned up the brush around the yard gathered all of the fruit that was dry  enough wrote a letter to Mrs. Hoyt done the work been busy all day.  Ida and Mary went over to her Grandmas to spend a few days.  Frank and Johnnie caught a coyote and that the dogs caught another one.

Calm warm and Pleasant the sky a little murky.  Cloudy enough to keep a body uneasy about their fruit they have to dry.  Some wind in the evening.  Frank went to Modesto.  Johnnie went up to the ranch.  I done the work made dog feed done considerable cleaning turned the peaches that was out to dry and gathered all up that would to fetch in.  I went over to Thane's for dinner.  Frank brought my valise home from Mr. Allen's said that Herbert Rose hasn't come back to the mine yet but was expecting to got daily.

Today calm warm and pleasant the sky a little murky as usual.  Frank went out this morning to see if he could find the dogs.  Johnnie and Mr. Roundtree went to church and Sunday school.  I done up the work and wrote to Mr. Crow and to Mollie Crow.  I think it is storming in the north it looked dark and blew pretty hard a rainbow in the north east looks like rain here tonight.  I gathered in all the fruit that was dry enough .  Mr. Snyder, Mr. Roundtree and Johnnie here for dinner.  Thane came over her and I went up to see Arthur Crow he is quite sick.

Very calm today cloudy some tonight the wind blowing enough to turn the windmill.  Frank and Johnnie went up to the ranch.  Frank came back for dinner went down in the bottom looking for hogs.  I done the work went to see Arthur twice he is better then morning.  Brad came down this morning wanting me to go up to see him.  Mrs. Oswald the woman that is at Brads I think is a good housekeeper she is working to get things straitened the Chinaman left every thing very dirty.  Ida Came home this evening. Mary didn't come with her.  She stopped to see Nellie Rose.

Warm and lovely a little cloudy at times.  Mr. Crow came home tonight from Oakland he stayed at Esther's last night.  Frank went out to the Grafford place.  Johnnie went up to the ranch.  I went to see Arthur he is better today.  Ida and I went to the post office.  I got a card from my cousin Millicent Stern of Iowa.  Her golden wedding she has been married 50 years sending me an invitation.  Mr. Crow came home very unexpected to me says that he had a good time on his visit.

Cool this morning pleasant through the day.  Mr. Crow and I, Frank and Ida went to Modesto today to see Herbert rose and Nellie before they left for the mine.  We didn't see Herbert he hadn't returned from the city .  He expects to start Monday for the mine.  Johnnie took 4 horses and the header bed and brought home a load of furniture from Modesto.  Frank bought Nellie Roses furniture.  I ate dinner at Mrs. Allen.  Miss. Mary Stove was their and so was Mrs. Semple.  I had a pleasant visit with Mrs. Allen and Mrs. Semple.

The wind blew awhile this morning but warm and pleasant the balance of the day.  Mr. Crow cutting jimson weeds, cleaned his gun and choreing around all day.  I churned and done up the work and assisted Ida with the washing.  Frank went out on the pains.  Johnnie went up to the ranch with a load of furniture.  We got it a long letter from Mantie Rose.  Mr. Crow got one from Mr. Kasson.  I got one from the retreat from Edith Epley she says that her pa is better.  But is still quite poorly we will go up to see him.

Warm this afternoon.  Mr. Crow cutting jimson weeds this forenoon this afternoon he went up to the ranch with a man to see some mules.  He wrote to Mr. Newman and sent a check back to him for some grain.  Also wrote to Mr. Moorehead, Mr. Ed Walden, Manbio Rose and Mr. Grubble. Ida ironed I gathered up the dried fruit all that was dry enough and got ready to so up to see Lewis tomorrow.  Frank took us out to Frank Bells to stay all night so we would be close to the station.  Jennie Morris and her three children were there to go down home in the morning. .

Cool this morning warm and close this afternoon.  WE got up before three o'clock this morning.  Frank Bell got up and got breakfast for us.  Will bell hitched up and took us to the station a little after four o'clock.  Jennie Morris and children went on home we came up here to the Retreat got here at half past 11 o'clock found Lewis some better.  Brad was here but went home this afternoon.  Mrs. Dr. Burke welcomes me warmly so did Mr. Frank Burke and Mrs. Hattle she is still here.  Mollie and Edith are here.  Mollie looks warn out has lost so much sleep.

Cool and foggy this morning.  Lewis a good deal better.  He and Mr. Crow both took treatment.  I have been around amongst the old friends.  I wrote to Ida Crow, Herbert Crow came to stay awhile with his pa, Wiley Crow up and went back today.  I went to see Mrs. Hattel she is sick in bed.  Mr. Hattel came to see her.  Mrs. Ings, Miss Davis, and Aggie came back from camp meeting.  I met Mrs. Wiley, Mrs. Clay, Mrs. Stwell and several of my other old friends today Mr. Black is still here.

Cool this morning but warm this afternoon cooler tonight some wind after dark.  Mr. Crow and I both took treatment.  Mr. Crow sent Wiley a check I went to see Mrs. Hattle awhile before I took treatment.   This afternoon I stayed with Lewis until he went into treatment then Edith and I went to see an old man with a cancer on his face.  Lewis a good deal better.  Mollie went to Oakland this afternoon on her way home.  Herbert will stay with Lewis.  Mrs. Miller Miss. Eubanks, Miss Sanoll and Mrs. Aydelfurte here this evening with us.  Mr. Oswald better tonight.

Cool with a strong wind the wind hard and cool tonight pretty cold in our tent tonight.  Mr. Crow took treatment.  Lewis is better today.  Mr. Crow went down and had something by his eye burned with electricity.  Edith and I went into see Mr. Placer burned on the lip with electricity for cancer, poor old man.  He didn't make much fuss but it hurt him pretty badly.  I was in to sere Mrs. Hattle, Mrs. Barker down to seem me this morning.  We had some tea and toast in Edith's room tonight Miss. Saxfnort, Miss embanks, Gerbert, Mrs. Eydalfosts, Edith and myself went is a party.

The wind blew very hard last night.  Mr. Crow and I both took treatment.  WE are going home tomorrow and I have been around telling them all good bye.  I went to see Mrs. Burke, Mrs. Clay, Mrs. Mills and several others.  Lewis is a good deal better.  Herbert and Edith are going to stay with him until he is able to come home.  Mr. Crow and I gave Mrs. O'Leary 10 dollars she is a poor old helpless woman with a cancer on the lip.

The wind blew all night and pretty hard all day pleasant tonight and pretty hard all day, pleasant tonight at home.  We left the retreat this morning at six o'clock for home went down to Vallejo Junction and stayed two hours came on to Tracey and stayed a couple of hours.  J. A. Crow on his way to Newman.  We got to the station and Robert Crow was there and brought me home and Mr. McCullaugh brought Mr. Crow home all seemed glad to see us.  Mrs. Ingram here.  Mr. Ingram and Frank out in the hills quail hunting.  A letter here from J.E. Friday October 2, 1891

The wind blew pretty hard last night and this forenoon this afternoon or rather late this evening very pleasant.  Mr. Crow got a letter and check from Mr. Newman.  Mr. Crow and Johnnie went up to the ranch this morning to take some stock.  This afternoon him and I went out to Will bells after a couple of the hounds that was there.  Eveline was there she is uneasy about Em Walden she thins that she is in a precarious situation.  Frank came home from his hunt.  They killed a good many quail.  Mary and I fixed up Johnnie's room today.  Ida and I was fixing up mine.  Nellie Rose sent me her bedroom set and her fancy work.

Saturday October 3, 1891

Warm and pleasant calm.  Mr. Crow, Frank and Johnnie went up to the upper ranch this forenoon.  Ida and I cleaned the yard.  Cleaned the hen house, buggy house and around the yard and burned the trash.  Mr. Mays and Isadore Ward came over this afternoon.  Ida and I went out to the station.  We stopped to see Mrs. Stanley awhile.  Mrs. Moran was there cut out Bennie two dresses.  Mr. Crow got a letter and a check fro three hundred dollars from cousin Elwood.  Mary and children, Frank Bell and her two little one, Charley Haile John Steward, Walter Morris and several other I new were at the station this afternoon.

Sunday October 4, 1891

Cool this morning, but calm warm and pleasant through the day.  Mr. Crow and I wrote to cousin Elwood and he wrote to the Modesto Bank and sent three checks two from Elwood and one from Mr. Newman.  I wrote to Mollie Crow and went up to Brads to see Mrs. Oswold,  John and Clara were there.  Mays, Isadore and Mary Eastman left this afternoon.  Brad and cash down and spent the evening Mr. Bandtrer here this evening so was Mr. Snyder.  Him and He and Johnnie went to Sunday school.

Clara Braley Crow was the wife of John Bradford Crow III.  He was the 7^th child of Brad Crow and Parthania Eastin.

Mr. Crow went to Newman.

Calm and warm today, cool this morning.  Mr. Crow went to Newman had Nig shod took dinner at Cash Eastin's.  He went and put Carner Stoner on his 720 acres of land near Souths.  They have surveyed the section.  .  Johnnie went to Newman after some barley for Mr. Crow.  Frank went up to the ranch brought Kate and her colt down.  Ida and I washed and mended I gathered up the dried prunes.  George Crow and another man here to buy beef cattle.  Mr. Crow wrote to Mr. Shakely, Mr. Tulley and to J. A. Crow he got a letter from Jr. Tulley, Robert Crow and Arthur down this evening.

Warm today quite warm this evening.  Mr. Crow went up to see George Steward about fixing the dam and then went to the ranch and brought Jersey with a young calf home.  This afternoon  Frank, Johnnie and Mr. Crow were cutting willows, to fix the dam with.  Some men brought a lot of colts to pasture.  Ida ironed and I churned and done up the work, Her and I went out to see Bell Crow this afternoons came back by the station.  Mora Crow came on the train she is here tonight.  Mr. Snyder here tonight he is going to work on the dam.

Calm and warm the windmill run some.  Mr. Crow brought a can from the ranch this morning and this afternoon he went up to the ranch with Coats and Mc Crow to see some mules.  Mr. Crow killed a coon this morning.  Frank got three-yesterday morning. Johnnie and Mr. Snyder hauling brush to the dam.  Mr. Snyder, Johnnie, Mr. and Mrs. Moorhead, Mr. Coates, McCord and Norah Crow here for dinner.  I went don in the orchard with Mr. and Mrs. Moorhead for pears.  Frank and Ida went over to the store this evening.  Mr. Roundtree here.  Nora Crow went out to Mr. South's this afternoon with her father.

Cool this morning and a little windy with considerable wind today, warm and clear this evening.  Mr. Crow down in the orchard killing larks they are eating up the pears.  Frank and Ida went to Modesto today.  Johnnie and Mr. Snyder hauling brush to the dam.  Franks hogs are dying they think that they have the cholera.  I done the work irrigated the yard.  Thane Ingram here this afternoon and Brad and Robert Crow here and spent the evening.  It got a letter from Mary Fuller and a postal from Edith saying that they are talking of going home Sunday.

Very pleasant today Mr. Crow shooting birds and cutting the willows that was growing on the fence in the orchard.  Frank, Johnnie and Mr. Snyder working on the dam.  Ida and I gave the house a through sweeping and dusting.  I did some mending.  Brad and Robert Crow down and spent the evening.  I got a postal from Edith Epley says her Pa is getting along nicely thins he well be able to go home in a few days

Very pleasant just enough wind to be comfortable.  Mr. Crow still shooting birds in the orchard.  Frank, Mr. Snyder and Johnnie working on the dam.  Ida and I churned washed the porches, kitchens done some baking and I was helping Mr. Crow milk and one cow run another and pushed me over flat on my back spilled about half a bucket of milk over me.  C.P. The wind blew pretty hard the most of the day.  Calm and pleasant tonight.  Mr. Crow around home all day.  Frank went out a hunting killed several ducks we picked them this afternoon.  Norah Crow here today and tonight her and Ida went out to the landing to church Mr. Latta preached.  Robert down this evening.  Frank, Ida , robber, Norah and I went over and spent the evening at Will Ingram's, Jonnie went to Modesto this evening going up to Orland to his uncles a few days.

The wind blew pretty hard through the night and a little while this morning.  Frank and Mr. Snyder working on the dam.  Ida and I washed and I mended.  Ida sewed on the babies dress.  I went up to Mr. Oswald's and got some yeast and made some light bread. Nora stayed her last night went out to Mr. South's today.  A Mr. Forester here tonight.  Mr. Crow got a letter from Mr. Leonard Coates saying he wanted the mules to be shipped to him.

I got a paper from my cousin in Iowa giving an interesting account of her golden wedding.  Today has been very pleasant Mr. Crow went up to see the well borers at John Crow and he went to the station to see when he could ship two mules to Mr. Coats.  Frank and Mr. Snyder working on the dam.  Frank got a Maltese cat at Mr. Thompson's.  Ida ironed and I churned done up the work.  This afternoon I went out to the station with Mr. Crow I called on Mrs. Whitmore whilst were waiting for the train.  I wrote a letter to Mrs. Clay I got one from Mr. Atwell, Mr. Crow wrote to J. A. Crow to send him up a windmill and wrote to Mr. Coates.  He got two letters from J. A. Crow and one from Mr. Shakley.  I stopped at Frank Bells she says that Em Walden isn't any better.

Cool and pleasant today Mr. Crow went up to Johns to see the well borers.  They will be here as soon as they get through at John Crows.  Frank and Mr. Snyder at work on the dam.  I went out to Em Walden's and spent the day.  She looks miserable.  Aunt Evelines is staying with her.  I fixed my old black dress over for a skirt.  I met Clara Crow and I.P. Crow tonight as I came home and Mrs. Frank Winter, Mr. Thompson thinks his wife's face will have to be operated on.

Cool this morning and cool enough to be comfortable all day.  Mr. Crow up the river after the dogs in the morning and he and Frank took two mules out and put them on the cars to send to Coats.   Frank hauled the pipe to put in the well from the station today.  Mr. Snyder still working on the dam.  The well borer came this evening.  Ida finished Bennie a dress.  I finished my black skirt her and I went out to the station took two packs of hay for the mules we are sending to Coats.  We went by Toms new house stopped and looked at it.  Mr. Crow got a letter from J.A. Crow and answered it and wrote to Tully too.

Cool all day with a heave north wind calm and pleasant tonight.  Mr. Crow has been around most of the day.  Frank went out to the station at half past three this morning to see to getting Coasts mules off on the train.  It didn't come along until 10 o'clock today.  There are three men here today boring a well.  They commenced this morning got along pretty well with it.  Mr. Snyder working on the dam. Will Ingram over and spent the afternoon.

Cool in the morning.  Warm and cool in the afternoon.  Mr. Crow and Frank went to Modesto.  Frank to the Fair.  Mr. Crow to buy a tank.   Ida and I done our usual cleaning and baking.  Mr. Snyder working on the dam.  Mr. Tulley and his two men boring the well.  Cora Crow down to see me we had a pleasant social chat together.  She is going to San Luis in a few days.  I wrote to Mrs. Hoyt I was down to the creek to Mr. Lightcaps old house it looks desolate there.  Robert Crow came down to tell us good bye he is going over to John Crows, Johnnie got back from Orland tonight.

Another calm and warm day the windmill didn't run any today.  Mr. Crow home all day.  Frank, Johnnie and Will Ingram out hunting.  I added some more to a letter that I wrote to Mrs. Hoyt.  I got a letter from her and apron for my birthday present.  She thought today was my birthday.  Mr. Crow got a letter from J. A. Crow saying that they had shipped the wind mill Ida and I went over to the post office we met Mr. and Mrs. Kilburn they are going to the retreat to see Will Smith they don't thing he will get well.

Monday October 19, 1891

Warm today.  Mr. Crow around the most of the day put out some poison.  Frank, Snyder and Johnnie working on the dam and branded some colts in the evening.  Mr. Snyder and Johnnie went out to the station to get the windmill.  Frank and Ida went along to help load it on the wagon.  The well borers getting along slowly boring the well.  Ida and I washed and baked have several to cook for have seven men.  Thane Ingram over this afternoon and we were out watching the men boring on the well.  Will Smith not expected to live.

Tuesday October 20, 1891

Another warm day.  Mr. Crow around the most of the day.  He got some gravel to put in the well.  Frank went up to the ranch with some mules and him and Johnnie fixed the checks in the little field for irrigating.  Mr. Snyder went home.  The men finished the well will put up the windmill tomorrow.  I got a letter from Mrs. Clay, Mr. Crow got one from Mr. Coates that he got the mules all right, he got a letter fro J. A. Crow saying that he had made the ten thousand dollar loans and had received the checks.  He says Will Smith was very low.  Dr. said couldn't live 10 hours.

Wednesday October 21, 1891

It has been close, warm and cloudy looked like rain all day what little wind there is in the south Mr. Crow assisted the men, Mr. Tully and his two men, Frank and Johnnie raised the windmill and frame this forenoon.  This afternoon, Johnnie took Mr. Tully his men and boring tools to Isaac Crows.  Frank and Ida went over to his Pa's and to Mr. Richardson's.  Mr. Crow went to Modesto to go to Stockton tomorrows train.  Will Smith died Monday is to be buried in Stockton tomorrow at two o'clock.   Brad down, Mr. Gerable here this afternoon to buy mules.

W.C. Smith, postmaster at Stockton died at St. Helena last evening at 9 o'clock, after several weeks illness.  He was a former resident of Crow's Landing and was a son of Captain Smith and Sue Smith of Stockton and son-in-law of Guy Kilburn.  The funeral will take place in Stockton on Thursday afternoon.  Deceased was  aged about 33 years and leaves a wife and one child.  Will Smith had a legion of friends.  From the Modesto Evening News. !0-23-1891

Warm and close until evening the win blew up from the north west cool, Johnnie went up to Newman to get a pump made this afternoon.  He went up to the ranch to see about the stock.  I have been busy all day took a bath churned; mended two pair of rubber boots and l cleaned the yard.  I got a letter from Lizzie Selliers, Thane over awhile.

Friday October 23, 1891

Warm and close today.  Foggy awhile this morning.  The wind blew pretty hard awhile late this evening.  Mr. Crow got home from Stockton at half past eleven last night.  He was at the funeral said that will had a very large turn out about the largest that has been in Stockton for a long time.  Johnnie went up to the ranch and got a wagon and fixed to get to Modesto tomorrow after the tank.  Mr. Crow choring around I was busy all day cleaning and mending.

Warm and close today a little foggy this morning.  Mr. Crow choring around.  Johnnie went to Modesto after the tank today.  I baked and cleaned made me an apron been busy all day.  Frank and Ida got home tonight.  Bennie seemed so glad to get back.  Thane and Will Ingram over and spent the evening.  Mr. Tully and Jack her this evening.  Ida brought me a birth present, a nice set of cups and saucers.  Frank a nice cup and saucer.

Close and warm all day what little breeze there is from the south.  Mr. Crow around home all day.  Frank down to the river where the dogs had treed and got five coons.  Ida, Johnnie and I went out to Crows Landing to church.  Mr. Latta preached a very good sermon.  A good many her son present.  I met several of the kinfolk.  Frank Bell says that Em Walden is failing pretty fast don't think that she will live another week.  I got a picture of my niece's baby girl.  She is rather pretty child.

Another warm close day very pleasant weather calm.  Mr. Crow choring around put out some poison.  Frank and Johnnie put up a frame to set the tank up and the man that was coming to put up the tank today didn't put in his appearance today.  Ida and I washed and mended We cooked chicken and made pies.  Mr. Gerold here trying to sell some horses to Mr. Crow

Warm and close today a little calm this afternoon and a gentle breeze from the south.  Mr. Crow and I came to Modesto this forenoon.  I took some eggs to Mrs. Allen. She had gone to Stockton went down to the store got some calico for Mr. Crow two shirts.  We got dinner at Mrs. Cavelo.  Mr. Mays was there for dinner too.  Came over with a load of apples.  Mr. Crow went to see the man that was to put up the tank said that he would go over on the stage this afternoon.  WE came on to Lewis.  He looks miserable bad but much better than he did at the Dr. all of the rest well as usual.  My birthday 58 years old today.

Close and warm today with a gentle south wind cloudy some looks like rain about three o'clock the wind veered around to the east blew very hard lots of dust with it probably it will rain some to night.  Mr. Crow haring around and hunting.  He got nine rabbit.  Lewis feeling better today.  Mollie sewing.  Ester making her a dress.  I am mending.  Hubert and two men hauling hay will get done tomorrow if it doesn't rain.  Lewis had a man to shear his sheep yesterday.  Mays picking apples to take to Modesto tomorrow.

Thursday October 29, 1891

It rained a heaver hard shower last evening and sprinkled for an hour or two.  The wind blew pretty hard from the north in the forenoon pleasant this afternoon cooler today than it has been for sometime.  Mr. Crow and Lewis went to Oakdale this morning.  This afternoon Mr. Crow out a hunting.  Lewis is feeling much better today.  Mollie busy about her work.  I cut out and partly made Mr. Crow his shirts.  Mc working on her dress.  The boys hauling wood and getting up hogs.  Mr. Mays up this forenoon.  Mr. May went to Modesto with a load of apples and dried fruit.

Today pleasant.  Lewis and Mr. Crow around all forenoon in the afternoon Mr. Crow and I went over to Mrs. Richersons to stay all night in the forenoon Mollie, Ettie and I were putting up tomatoes we put up 28 cans.  Mollie had the toothache badly. Mr. and Mrs. Mays went up to Oakdale with a load of fruit.  Today is Frank's birthday.  I expect they are having a turkey dinner.  Marion Snider and Roy Porter came over today with some stock.

Saturday October 31, 1891

Cool and cloudy it sprinkled a little today. Mr. Crow and I stayed at Mr. Richardson last night left there this morning at half past eight for home we stopped in Modesto.  I stopped at Mrs. Allen's, Mrs. Crow went to the store came on home got here at two o'clock.  Thane and I was ready to go to the station after the mail.  Frank and Roundtree fixing the pipes to the new tank.  They have got I up since we have been gone.  Emma Walden died yesterday morning at 5 o'clock.  Dr. Evans taped her and took away  three gallons of water she sank very fast after the operation had several convulsions.  The funeral sermon was preached today and she is to be buried to morrow.  Johnnie has gone to Washington and Mr. Roundtree is working here in his place.  I have had the headache very badly all day.  Ray Porter here.  Mr. Bennet here today and paid someone his note.

The funeral of Mrs. Walden, reliet of the late Dr. C.F. Walden, who died near Crow's Landing on Friday last, aged 69 years, of dropsy, took place at Modesto yesterday afternoon.  Modesto Evening News 11-6-1891

Cloudy all day cool sprinkled a little . Mr. Crow went to Modesto to the funeral so did Ida.  There were a good many of the friends there. Ida went over with Bell.  I had the sick headache wasn’t able to go.  Mr. Crow and Brad went together. Mr. Roundtree went a fishing  Frank and Will went goose hunting, got a couple.  Judith down spent the afternoon.  I got a letter from Nellie Rose she was at Dagget expected to leave there for the mine last Tuesday.

Monday November 2, 1891

Foggy all forenoon pleasant this afternoon.  Mr. Crow around in the forenoon.  The afternoon he was picking pears in the forenoon frank and Mr. Roundtree fixing ditches.  This afternoon May painted the tank.  Ida and I washed mended and went out to take the clothes to the wash came back by Frank Bells.  Eveling and Katie Walden went out with Pollie to straiten up things.  I expect that Pollie will go home with Eveline for awhile.  Ida was sewing on Bennies dress.   Three men here tonight after stock.

Tuesday November 3, 1891

Warm and pleasant very calm.  Mr. Crow went out to Isaac Crows to help him some about the stock getting ready for the sale tomorrow.  Frank went up to the ranch with the three men that stayed here last night for stock.  Mr. Roundtree chored around and gave the tank another coat of paint.  Mr. Crow gathered some of the pears.  Ida ironed.  I done the work.  John and Nellie Stewart here for dinner.  John paid some on his note and renewed it.  We got a letter from Elwood and a check for 2 hundred dollars.  Fred  Erant and family stopped on their way to Madera .  They are moving up there.  Brad and Judith down last evening until bed time.

Wednesday November 4, 1891

Another warm calm day.  Mr. Crow finished gathered the pears and apples.  He caught four coons this morning that the dogs had treed.  Mr. Roundtree up pulling the shingles off of the house at the ranch.  Id up there washing windows and cleaning up.  Tom moved out today.  Frank went out to the sale at Charley Crows.  I have been busy all day.  I made me an apron, mended busy in general.  I got a letter from May McPike she is at Single Springs for her health.  A man her hunting lost stock and two men here to see Frank.

Thursday November 5, 1891

Cloudy some wind from the west an occasional sprinkle of rain a rainbow this morning still cloudy to night.  Mr. Crow went up to the ranch this morning this afternoon he and I covered the pears.  I washed the six windows and cleaned the blinds in the two front rooms.  Cut up two coons, mended some and helped Mr. Crow some about the covering the pears.  Frank went to Modesto, Ida and Mr. Roundree up at the ranch at work.  The carpenters they are covering the house. Mr. and Mrs. Ingram here until bed time tonight.  We wrote to cousin Elwood Chantry.

Friday November 6, 1891

The wind blew hard fro the north west all day, calm and quiet tonight.  Mr. Crow went up to the ranch and brought the mares and colts down.  I helped Ida pack up her things and then I gave her bedroom a good cleaning and washed and worked until noon a cleaning.  This afternoon I darned a table cloth and turned and mended two sheets.  Frank and Ida moved up to the other ranch today.  Mr. Roundtree helped them move.  I miss Bennie tonight.  Mr. Ingram over this afternoon.  Mr. Crow sent two checks to the bank one in Modesto and one on London Paris Bank for 4 hundred dollars.

 Saturday November 7, 1891

Another hard wind all day and still blowing pretty hard at bedtime with a north west wind.  Mr. Crow been choreing around all day.  Frank came down after some cows this morning.  I  Have been busy gave the setting rooms a thorough cleaning washed the windows, and everything around swept the leaves out of the yard.  Cleaned all of the drawers in the kitchen and in Ida's room been busy all day. Mr. Crow got a letter from J. A. Crow says that Charley Sargent is better.

Sunday November 8, 1891

Today has been warm and pleasant and Mr. Crow has been around home all day.  We had chicken for dinner.  I was cook.  Mr. Crow wrote to the San Joaquin Valley Bank to pay his taxes, he and I wrote to Nellie Rose.  I sent her some violets.  Will and thane over this afternoon.  Johnnie stayed with us last night went up to Frank's today he and Bennie came down this afternoon the child was wild with delight he was so glad to see us.  Our new wind mill has pumped finally the last few days.

Monday November 9, 1891

Another warm pleasant day. Mr. Crow around this forenoon, this afternoon he is irrigating in the little field below the house. Frank down and fixed the ditches.  He sold the cattle to Mr. Kitthel for 13 dollars ahead and returned the milk cows.  I washed the window in Ida's room and cleaned the bed room set in her room.  Cleaned both of the porches done some mending been busy all day.  Mr. Roundtree went to Modesto to get paper and a cupboard.  Frank here for dinner. Johnnie came after a sheep and took Bennie's wagon up.

Tuesday November 10, 1891

A warm and lovely day.  Mr. Crow still irrigating in the little field not much head on and it is slow work.  I cleaned the yard and ironed in the forenoon.  Johnnie came down this morning brought us a piece of beef they butchered a bullock this morning.  Mr. and Mrs. Moorhead  here for dinner and another gentleman with them.  She trimmed my old hat.  Lewis, Ethel and Harry Crow over to day Lewis is looking better.  Harry has been sick for a few days. Ethel is looking better than she did.

Warm and pleasant through the day night was cool.  Mr. Crow finished irrigating the little field below the house.  Lewis stayed around all day.  I was busy all forenoon in the afternoon Ettie and I went up to Hills Ferry to see Mrs. Newsome awhile and then we came back by the ranch.  Ethel stayed at Frank's.  Frank's house isn't finished yet they will be papering tonight. Bennie has been sick all day. I got letters from Mrs. Hoyt and Brother John.  Mr. Crow got one from the insurance co.  Brad down and stayed all night he paid his note off.

Thursday November 12, 1891

The first frost of the season last night warm and pleasant today.  Mr. Crow went up to the ranch working with the stock.  Frank brought a few head down this morning.  I went up to Franks to take Lewis.  Bennie is better from their I went out to Dennis' after my chair got my scissors sharpened and old Joe shod and then went back to the station tonight to meet Edith and Wiley.  The train late dark when we got home.  Mr. Crow got letters from Mr. Walthal, Mr. Tully and Edith.  He wrote to Mr. Tully and to the SJ. Bank and sent a check that he got from Brad.

The coldest day of the season considerable frost last night and a cool wind today.  Mr. Crow choring around all day.  Lewis stayed at Johnnie Crows last night Johnnie brought him down this morning.  Wiley and Edith went up to Franks and Toms after dinner Harry went to school with Arthur and Ethel was at Frank's today.  They are all here tonight.  Edith and Wiley are going home with them tomorrow.  Edith and I fixed up the dried fruit.  Wiley is going to take it home.  Been busy all day.  I got Jimmie to help me turn the mattress and clean the slats.

Cold last night cool and a strong west wind today.  Mr. Crow and I went to Modesto today.  I got a table cloth, towels window blinds and stove.  Mr. Crow settled up for this tank and insurance on his grain.  Lewis, Ethel, Harry,  Wiley, and Edith stayed here last night, they went home today we all ate dinner together in Modesto.  Mr. Cawdry and Mr. McChesney here tonight.  They came after their Jennets.  Edith says she will make me a fruit cake and send it to me.

Cold this morning a little.  Mr. Crow and I around all day.  Mr. Candry and McChenery stayed her last night.  They took their jennets home today.  Thane Ingram and Oscar came down this morning.  Put my old stove in the bathroom and put up my new stove.  I had lots of cleaning today, so much soot that it settled all over the kitchen.  Their was an ellipse of the moon this evening said to be total.

Mr. Crow went to Newman

Another cold night warmer today then yesterday what little wind was in the south east.  Mr. Crow and Will Ingram went down in the bottoms this morning and got a large coon. That the dogs treed.  He  went to Newman and paid for his pump.  I washed mended.  This afternoon Thane and I went out to the station took my clothes took a box of eggs(10 doz)   I got a letter from cousin Laura Shirley she lived in El Madena.  Mr. Crow got a tag from the SJ bank for the check he sent in.  Johnnie down this evening.  Herbert Crow here brought us a sack of apples, will take a bull home.

Tuesday November 17, 1891

Another cold and frost night a little warmer today then yesterday. Mr. Crow hauled wood and him and I wrote to John Patchett.  He wrote to Wiley and I wrote to Mary McPike.  I got a letter from Asbury Sutton. I game the house a through cleaning and changed all of the beds.  This afternoon Thane and I went out to the station and took fifteen dozen eggs, box to ship eggs in will cut one in two and fixed it for us we sent them to Wiley.  We went y the ranch.  Ida has every this fixed up nicely.  I brought a stand, table down with me.  I took a lot of things up to Ida.

Cloudy and calm until in the afternoon the wind in the north east, warmer today.  Mr. Crow hauled a load of chips and wood.  I cleaned the smoke house wrote a letter to Asbury Sutton.  I  got dinner or Frank, Ida, Isadore, Mr. Roundtree.  Mr. Crow, Ed Crow and Mr. Baker.  Mr. Baker paid 120 dollars on his note.  Frank fixed the pipes in the water troughs and put up a couple of my window curtains.  Mr. Roundtree fixed some shingles on the roof and cleaned out the pipes around the house.  I cleaned the leaves out of the yard, been very busy all day.

Thursday November 19, 1891

It rained some last night been cloudy more or less all day.  Mr. Crow took the dogs and went hunting this morning .  This afternoon he was working on the windmill.  I have had a busy day of it.  I cleaned the storeroom Laundry I mopped my room.  Cleaned the silverware washed the currants for a fruit cake.  Cleaned out and put papers in the bureau and was stand drawers in the front room put dollies on the chairs and cushions and mats on the bureaus.  I am very tired tonight.  I took a bath and fixed one for Mr. Crow.  Will Ingram came and finished putting up my window curtains.  Thane over after lusbine to clean some clothing.

Cloudy the most of the day, warmer then it was a few day back.  Mr. Crow went up to the ranch today was their for dinner.  Bennie was so glad to see him.  I baked a cobbler pie and cookies gave the dinning room a through cleaning swept the leaves out of the yard.  John Stewart here today had Margaret with him.  He had a paper getting subscribers for Mr. Latta he wanted to raise 250 dollars to keep him preaching another year.  Mr. Crow furnished 25 dollars.

Saturday November 21, 1891

Today has been very pleasant a gentle south wind warm through the day.  Mr. Crow choring, fixed chicken coops and ladders.  I washed and cleaned the dinning room carpet cleaned and limed the hen house and all around outside gathered and burn bones for the chickens.  Hemmed a table cloth done some darning and mending been busy in general.   We had an old hen come off with 9 little chickens.  Mr. Crow went over to see Will and Thane and stay  until bedtime, but didn't find them at home.

Warm and pleasant some wind this afternoon.  Mr. around home all day.  Arthur Crow and Roy Oswald down with him all forenoon.  Thane and Will Ingram over until bedtime tonight.  We have had three hens come off with young chickens one with 10 and 9 and 8 sort of lat in the season.  I baked bread and made soup before I started to church.  I took the washing out and go my last weeks washing.  A good many people at church Mr. Latta preached a good sermon. Herbert Crow were there had Bennie .  He looks badly.

Another pleasant day wind south in the forenoon in the afternoon got back to the north.  Mr. Crow went to Cash Eastins after a hound dog.  This evening he got some quails.  I washed mended made a couple of towels, mopped the kitchen, cleaned out and put papers in the drawers in Mary's room been very busy all day.  Thane came over after a lot of cream.  I had skimmed up.

Bright sunshine and pleasant today although last night was cold and frosty.  Mr. Crow went up to the ranch to see Bennie, or child he is always delighted to see Uncle Ben.   This afternoon he went out and fixed up some fence on the 80.  I ironed and done up the work today but I am nearly laid up with my back.  Mr. Yates here to see Mr. Crow.  We still have roasting corn we get it out of Brads garden.

Another cold and frosty night. Pleasant today the air mild and balmy.  Mr. Crow out a hunting with the dogs this evening he went to the post office.  I have been quiet reading the most of the day done some basting on Mr. Crows shirts.  I am having trouble wit my back pains me so I can hardly get around.  Thane over Ida and Bennie came down to invite us to a turkey dinner tomorrow she said that Frank was sick this afternoon.  The barley crushers were there today and crushed Franks barley.  Frank was irrigating and their dam washed out last night.

Cloudy and frosty last night but warm today soft air what little breeze was from the south.  Mr. Crow and I went up to Frank's today to eat a turkey dinner.(Thanksgiving day)  Ida had a nice dinner and we had a pleasant visit.  Bennie was delighted didn't get from Uncle Ben, Ida and I went over to Tom's and Laura's awhile.  Tom was sick in bed.  There new house is nice everything looks comfortable.  Frank and Roundtree making a dam to irrigate for grain.  I wrote to Laura Shirley.

Another cold frosty night but quite warm through the day air soft and balmy.  Mr. Crow took Old  John and Jefra up to the ranch and brought the jennets and the jack down here.  I took a bath cleaned the leaves out of the yard made some pear preserves and sorted pears.  I took Tom a box of pears.  I wrote a letter to Lizzie Sellers.   Thane and I went out to the station went by Toms and Franks.  I got a sack of graham and one of white flour and we got letters from Mr. Tully 2 are from the Butchers union one from Edith and one from Wiley.  Mr. Crow took a bath after he came home.

Another cold frosty night but warmer then usual today.  Mercury tonight at six o'clock at 56.  Mr. Crow up to the ranch fixing up the fence (wire) I cleaned the chicken year and clear down to the corral.  I finished on the machine Mr. Crows two shirts and partly made me tow white skirts.  I wrote to Edith Epley and to Mrs. Hoyt Mr. Crow wrote to the continental Insurance Co. and sent them a check for 50 dollars and 25 cents. wrote to Mr. Tully and to the Live Stock Gazette Publishing Co to discontinue the paper.  A couple of young men here today.

Cloudy and cool all day looks some like rain tonight.  Mr. Crow hitched up to go to the ranch but Ida came down to leave Bennie while she went to church so he stayed at home and he and Bennie went to the river and go some water, cut some wood, wrote a letter to Mr. Tully and sent him a check for 25 hundred dollars.  He went over to Will Ingram's and stayed until bed time.  He got a letter from Mr. Tully Ida down and spent the day while she was at church or rather Sunday school their wasn't any church.  Oscar down to see us he book pretty well.

It rained light this morning before day and until 8 o'clock been cloudy more or less al day wind south sprinkled a little this evening looks life it might rain tonight.  Mr. Crow went hunting his morning.  This afternoon he sawed and cut some wood and I put it in the wood house.  I cleaned up a good deal around the wood pile. I read the most of the forenoon a man came after some horses.  Frank down this morning took Jimmy home with him.  HE got up the horses.  I went out to see the Seker colt he is large and fine have some mules.

Warmer then it has been for several days we have had all sort of a day.  This morning it was cloudy a south wind and an occasional sprinkle then the sun shone out this afternoon this wind to the west and blew hard.  Sprinkled once an awhile.  Cloudy at time looks cloudy tonight.  Mr. Crow jobbing around he fixed an egg box.  I washed swept the leaves out of the yard been busy all day.  Brad down and spent the evening. I see by the paper that they had rain around at different places more than we had here.

Wednesday December 2, 1891

Cold and windy strong north wind all day.  Calm tonight I expect there will be a hard frost if the wind don' t come up again tonight.  Mr. Crow went up to the ranch took Ida a box of pears, some boxes of plants some carrots and he took some salt for the stock.  He wrote a letter to J. A. Crow and one to Mr. Tully He got two letters from Mr. Tully and one from J. A. Crow.  I ironed I have been working the most of the day trying to get the leaves out of the yard.  I partly made me two white skirts and put buttons on Mr. Crow shirt.  Thane over and spent the afternoon.  Arthur and Roy down this evening.

Thursday December 3, 1891

The south wind blew hard all day and cold until about four o'clock this evening it commenced to rain and has rained ever since coming down calm and pretty fast.  Mr. Crow has been jobbing around burnt some weeds down in the bottoms.  He went over to Will Ingram's and got his hair cut and whiskers trimmed.  Mr. Latta her this afternoon borrowed some money.  Frank and Ida went to Modesto and left Bennie with us he was real good all day didn't want to go home with them tonight.  I churned pout clean papers on the shelves and pt a lot of wood in the shed.  Thane over this evening gave Mr. Latta a box of pears.

It rained a good deal last night.  Today the wind has been in the north to west blew pretty hard and cool it sprinkled a little this evening.  Don't look like the weather is settled.  Mr. Crow out a hunting this forenoon, this afternoon he was fixing fences.  I gave the dining room a thorough sweeping and swept leaves read part of the day when I wasn’t at my work.  Frank came down after a plow and harrow to fix up ready for work.  He took the scraper.  Sam Round tree got his head hurt and isn’t hardly able to work.

The coldest day of the season.  A cold and hard north west wind has blew all day.  Mr. Crow gathered some pumpkins and been jobbing around all day. He got a goose and a jack rabbit.  I done some baking made yeast cleaned many a leaf out of the yard and let them blow away.  I got a letter from Nellie Rose she like it better than she expected to Mr. Crow got his note from the Insurance Office (Continental) of San Francisco.   Mr. and Mrs. Ingram over and spent the evening, ate raisins and pears.  Spent a sociable evening.

It has been cold today but calm.  Mr. Crow went to Modest today he was summoned for the grand jury to meet at ten o'clock tomorrow so he went today.  I have been reading when I didn't have company.  Thane was over with me this afternoon down was Arthur he is here tonight he is he is going to stay with me while Mr. Crow is at Modesto.  It seems lonesome without Mr. Crow.

The coldest morning of the season.  It has been cold calm and a little hazy all day.  The sun hasn't shone out bright. I painted the kitchen floor some and the porch and around the fireplace in my room.  I used up all of the paint I had.  Thane over this afternoon.  Ida came down said that Frank was irrigating, that Sam was going to take his game to the station this evening. Jimmie Crow and Walter was down this evening said that he got a letter from the Black boys wanting Mr. Crow and him to come up their and hunt lots of bears there.

Tuesday December 8, 1891

No so cold last night been more or less cloudy all day considerable of a south wind this afternoon. Raining tonight 7 o'clock looks like it might rain all night.  I washed and ironed mopped my room, the kitchen and the porch where the paint is fresh. Mr. Crow is gone and I have the chores to do, all but the milking.  Arthur does the most of that but he get from school so late don't get time to do much.  Jimmie Crow down this morning after the dogs he was going hunting, rather stormy weather for a camp trip.

The weather has moderated and is quite warm and cloudy it rained some last night and rained some this evening. Cloudy tonight with an occasional sprinkle until bed time.  I cleaned a chicken and made yeast and have the outside work to do all except to milk, Arthur does that, it is so late he gets home from school he don't have time to do much. I have done a good deal of reading today.  I have been lazy.  I have had the headache the last two days better tonight.

The north west wind has blow hard all day and still blowing tonight.  Mr. crow came home tonight he got released form the grand jury about noon and then came home.  I has been so cold I have stayed around the fire the most of the day.  I would go out some times and sweep leaves out of the yard to seem them blow away it was pleasant around the fire then anywhere else.

The north west wind blew hard all night and until this evening.  Calmed down and turned to the south.  Mr. Crow choreing he got a wild pigeon in the bottom today the first one we have seen here for years and it was alone.  I baked a light bread, cookies and pies finished a shirt and done some mending.  Frank Crow down this afternoon Brad Crow, Will Ingram and wife here and spent the evening.  We still have a few plums on our late plum tree they are pretty late and they are good.  We have lots of ripe pears.

A heave white frost this morning looked almost like a snow.  Calm sun shiny and pleasant today.  A gentle south wind this evening and a little cloudy Mr. Crow choring around this forenoon, this afternoon he went up to see Bennie, Frank is irrigating.  I took a bath sorted the pears busy all forenoon this afternoon Thane and I went to the station took half a case of eggs.  We went by the ranch took Tom a box of pears and Frank a box stopped at both places went to see Frank Bell awhile Got my clothes from the washer woman.

Another heavy white frost this morning warmer this evening.  Cloudy some of the weather has moderated looks like rain tonight.  We have both been at home all day.  Mr. Tom Carson here this morning after money.  Charley the Swede here brought us the mail.  I got a long letter from Cousin Mary McPike.  I had chicken for dinner.  Frank, Ida and Mr. Roundtrree came down this evening after the chickens.  He got near five dozen roosters and I think three dozen hens he took the dried fruit going to send the fruit and rooster to Wiley.

Cold this morning but very pleasant all day a mild south wind Mr. Crow fixing the fence he went up to Brad's and spent the evening I have been very busy all day and am very tired tonight.  I washed cleaned the granary and around the woodpile and in the afternoon I cleaned the yard from the hen house and burnt the trash and burnt the leaves in the yard.  There is a strange phenomena in the skies tonight looks like two rainbows and they are white instead of colored.

Cloudy this morning with a south wind.  The sun shone out awhile  this afternoon,.  Cloudy again tonight.  Mr. Crow put a dam in the ditch to turn the water out in the pasture and he hauled a load of wood.  I ironed and still a gathering up around carried off all the old tin cans that were thrown over in the orchard.  Frank Bell and Helen here and spent the day we had a pleasant visit to gather Pollie Walden was coming with her but she was sick and not able to come.  Thane Ingram over this morning.

Cloudy in the morning commenced to rain about 10 o'clock and rained the most of the time until about three o'clock not very hard but a good growing rain not very cold a rainbow this evening pretty nearly clear tonight.  Mr. Crow out a scaring the geese out of the 80 there were a great many in the field; he went to the post office got a letter from cousin Elwood and one from Mr. Tully.  I cleaned the hen house set some paper in my room where Bennie pulled it off made pies and cooked apples.  Will and thane over until bedtime.

Cool north fog the most of the day.  North wind the sun shone out awhile this afternoon. Mr. Crow coring around all day.   I washed the windows and doors in the kitchen and dinning room.  I wrote a letter to Aunt Hannah Chantry and one to Nellie Rose.  Mr. Crow wrote some in both of them.  Mr. Latta and John Stewart here this afternoon John got 350 dollars John said that was going down to Mollies wedding she is to be married next Saturday.  Thane Ingram was over this afternoon.  Mr. Crow got a duck a jack rabbit and a quail.

Cold and foggy this morning a heave frost when and first got up half cloudy this evening looks some like rain tonight. Mr. Crow jobbing around he pout a dam in the to turn the water out of the little field.  I baked cookies and chored around this afternoon.  I went over to see Thane awhile.  Frank Crow down this morning said that Bennie was sick all night. Mr. Latta was around with a petitions for signers to prohibit any land to be sold to Saloon keepers at Crows Landing.  Brad down and spent the evening.

Cloudy this morning commenced to rain and rained most of the afternoon.  A nice rain cloudy and rained light at bedtime.  Looks like it might rain all night. Mr. Crow tending to the water.  I done some cooking been setting by the fire the most of the day.  Oscar came down and brought the mail and spent the evening.  Mr. Crow and I both had baths today.  Thane over this morning after some strychnine to poison mice says that they are about to take her.  Mattie Crow got married today.  The old saying Happy the bride the sun shines on will not hold good this time as their has not been any sunshine today.  I wish her every happiness.

The north wind blew pretty hard all night and the most of the day.  Calm and a little cloudy tonight.  Mr. Crow wrote to Mr. Grubl, Mr. Jamison some to Elwood to Len Coates and set him his mote get a letter from him with a check for three hundred dollars to pay for some mules.  He got a letter from Mr. Miller wanting me to come up there and for him to bury the dogs,.  I wrote t o Mary McPike and to Cousin Elwood Chantry, Mr. Crow wrote to  the San Joaquin Valley Bank and sent and sent the check he got form Coats. Frank down today.  Will and thane over and spent the afternoon.

Monday December 21, 1891

The north wind has blow hard all day and cold calmed down awhile this afternoon, started up a fresh about bedtime.  Mr. Crow choring around tending to the water where it is washing from Brad's   irrigating.  I washed  done some mending made me an apron.  Frank down and straighten up Mr. Crows bank accounts .  We have in the two banks nearly 10,000 dollars in money.  Frank brought Bennie he didn't want to go back home tonight.  Sam came down after a load of wood.  Brad came down this evening said that Charley the Swede was quite sick.  Brad is going to San Jose tomorrow with his turkeys.  Will and thane over they are picking their turkeys to send to Modesto.

Tuesday December 22, 1891

Calm and pleasant today. Mr. Crow choring and irrigating a little in the fields he got  3 ducks.  Mr. Crow got a letter from Mr. Miller wanting us to come up and bring the dogs.  I ironed and fixed up the eggs.  Will and Thane brought theirs over and filled a case.  Thane I went out to the station and took them and we went to see Frank Bell I got back home Uncle Sam Miller and young Mr. Tombs were here they stayed all night.  Frank bell wanted me to come to the Christmas tree Thursday night and go home with her and eat turkey Christmas day.

Wednesday December 23, 1891

It rained this morning  the wind changed to the north about nine o'clock and has blew hard  and cool all day.  Mr. Crow wrote a letter to the San Joaquin Valley bank and sent a check for 1,175.15 cents and wrote to Mr. Miller that we couldn't come up now.  We got a letter from Mrs. Hoyt that she was coming a few days to see us.  I piled a lot of wood and cleaned up around the wood pile.  I mended me a three pairs of gloves and mended Ida's dress.  Mr. Miller and Fran went home his morning.  Ida, Bennie down until after dinner and Frank and her here tonight, they are going over to her grandma's to spent Christmas.

Thane and Will going to Newman for the Christmas Tree.

The west wind blew pretty hard all night and all day and still blowing at bed time tonight. Mr. Crow choring around keeping out of the wind all he can.  I have had a severe Neuroline pain in my head it hurt so bad and so windy I didn't go out  to the Christmas tree.  I felt quite disappointed as I wanted to see the children's enjoyment.  Thane over this afternoon her and Will are going to Newman to the Christmas tree and then re going home with Cash Eastin for dinner tomorrow.  Ida and Frank have last night went over to her grandmas today.

Friday December 25, 1891

Last night the coldest of the season the ice was thicker the horse trough was frozen over today a gentle south wind the sun shone bright but cold in the shade.  Mr. Crow went up  to MC ranch and took some horses hauled out some hay for the stock busy all day.  I went out to Frank Bells to a Christmas dinner.  We had a fine dinner and a grand time in general  Bell was their with her five children a girl and her hired man.  Hamer and Pat Derling and myself made quite a crowd.  She said that they had a fine Christmas tree last night heavy laden a great many their.  I got tow nice aprons on the tree.

Cool and cloudy all day with a strong south wind it has every appearance of a good rain tonight.  Mr. Crow plowing and made mush for the dogs and choring around.  I done some baking and mending, carried in a good deal of wood and chips. Oscar down and spent the evening.  Mr. Crow got a letter from Cousin Elwood and a check on the bank of Orange for six hundred dollars He also got two letters from Jr. Tully one that he had made a loan of 950 dollars and the other of 5,000 if he make the loan.

It rained some this morning sprinkled off and on all day sun shone.  Mr. Crow put in a dam in the pasture to turn the water out on the grass.  He wrote to Mr. Tully and sent him a check for 525 dollars to loan to Young P. Miller he wrote to Elwood chantry and to S.J. Bank and sent a check for six hundred dollars.  I wrote to Elwood and to Mr. Perley to send me a paper .  I cooked an old hen and baked light bread.  Will and Thane over and spend the evening  They have just gotten back.

Today has been very pleasant.  Mr. Crow, Jimmie Crow, Will Ingram, Glen and Arthur Crow and Roy Oswald went a coyote hunting.  The coyote went across the river where they couldn’t follow.  I expect the dogs caught it  they haven’t come back yet.  I washed, cleaned the hen house and made new nests.  And Thane and I went to the station.  We stopped and had the little wagon fixed.  Frank and Ida got back their Christmas.  They brought a nice table cloth and a dozen napkins Mr. Crow a silk handkerchief.

It commenced to rain last night about midnight and hasn't ceased since and this is bedtime tonight has the appearance of rain all night.  There has been a gentle south wind and not very cold the rain has been gentle the most of the time.  This will make the farmers glad if it did rain and to night.  Mr. Crow has been jobbing around, he and I wrote to George Poor and John Patchett and sent them a Christmas present.  I wrote to Stella Crow.  I ironed this morning and made yeast.  It has been so wet that I have been housed up all day.

Cold and Frosty this morning pleasant this forenoon.  This afternoon cloudy raining lightly until bedtime looks like it might rain all night.  Mr. Crow, Frank, Will Ingram and Arthur out a coyote hunting cutting wood this afternoon.  Mrs. Hoyt and I have been visiting together having a good time.  Mr. Crow got a letter from Mr. Jamison and a check for 95 dollars interest money.
