Information from the Corpusty Parish Records

Unfortunately the records that I checked had a number of gaps but detailed below is the information that I managed to extract from the microfilms held as MF/RO 558/5 and MF/RO 559/1 at the Norwich Record s office.

John Keeler and Esther Hill had the following children :

John Keeler baptised 25th February 1787

Charlotte Keeler born 22nd December 1791 and baptised 24th December 1791

George Bird (Oulton) married Charlotte Keeler 22nd February 1814 at Corpusty Parish Church, in the presence of Mary Bird and Robert Keeler. The banns were read on 19th December 1813, 2nd January 1814 and 13th February 1814 at Corpusty Parish Church and also on the 30th January 6th and 13th February 1814 at Oulton Parish Church.

Robert Keeler born 23rd February 1794 and baptised 7th March 1794

Charlotte Keeler married John Jenkinson (Thurning) on 27th October 1834 at Corpusty Parish Church witnessed by William Keeler. The banns were read 12th October, 19th October and 26th October 1834.

Samuel Keeler born 9th March 1796 and baptised 14th March 1796

Priscilla Keeler baptised 11th February 1798

Joseph Keeler baptised 3rd March 1799

Joseph Keeler baptised 14th March 1800

Joseph Keeler (Widower) aged 32 married Martha Westney (Singlewoman) on 27th October 1832. at Corpusty Parish Church. The banns were read on 23rd September 1832, 30th September 1832 and 7th October 1832 at Corpusty Parish Church.

It appears that Joseph had already married a Barbara ? and had the following children :

Mary Keeler baptised 28th July 1822, buried 20th November 1836 aged 14.

Richard Keeler baptised 6th March 1825, buried 13th December 1827 aged nearly 3.

Richard Keeler baptised 29th March 1829, buried 24th February 1830 infant.

Barbara Keeler (wife of Joseph) buried 2nd May 1830 aged 36 years.

Joseph and Martha Keeler had the following children :

William baptised 11th March 1833

John baptised 31st May 1831

Susannah Elizabeth baptised 22nd May 1836

Stephen John baptised 22nd July 1838

Hannah Mary baptised 7th March 1841. Hannah Mary Keeler (23) and Robert Howmans or Thomas (22) had their banns read on 7th February, 14th February and 24th February 1863. They were married on 19th March 1863. There is an entry for the following child which I believe is Hannah’s :

Thomas Henry Keeler baptised 8th November 1863 mother Hannah Mary Keeler (no father!)

Richard Henry baptised 4th June 1843

Emma Maria baptised 26th July 1846.Emma Maria Keeler (aged 21) married William Wilkin (aged 22 Bricklayer) on 2nd November 1866, witnessed by William Wilkin (Blacksmith) and Joseph Keeler. Their banns were read on 7th October and 14th October 1866.

Walter Robert baptised 7th July 1850

Caroline Sarah baptised 7th July 1850

Samuel Jacob baptised 29th January 1854, buried 5th November 1855

Samuel Jacob baptised 28th September 1856, buried 27th February 1859

Joseph was buried 30th November 1884 at Corpusty Parish Church aged 85

Martha was buried 30th June 1888 at Corpusty Parish Church aged 73 (born 1815)

James Keeler buried 12th February 1804

Esther Keeler buried 12th April 1807

Esther Keeler wife of John Keeler buried 30th August 1840 at Corpusty Parish Church , aged 77 (born c.1767), (no sign of burial of John Keeler?). This is the Keeler line from which I am descended.

Thomas and Sarah Keeler had the following children :

Samuel and Rebecca Keeler had the following children : (this may be the Samuel Keeler b. 9th March 1797)

John baptised 28th November 1824 (this may be the John mentioned twice below?)

Sarah Anne baptised 15th April 1827

William Keeler and Susannah Carter (Bloford) had their banns read at Corpusty Parish Church on 28th November, 12th December and 26th December 1824 and were married late 1824 early 1825 (but not in Corpusty). They had the following children :

Edward Keeler baptised 10th August 1827 (Edward may have moved to Jarrow with son Henry Jacob)

In 1847 a 19 year old Edward Keeler (possibly Edward above) married Caroline Horn (18 of Saxthorope) on 4th July 1847 at Corpusty Parish Church, witnessed by William Keeler and John Horn. Their banns were read on 13th June, 20th June and 27th June 1847. They had the following children :

William Keeler baptised 16th January 1853

James John Keeler baptised 26th March 1854

Elizabeth Anne Keeler baptised 19th June 1859

Louisa Keeler baptised 19th June 1859 (these two baptised on same day as Ann Mary and Albert Keeler children of John and Mary Keeler)

Henry Jacob Keeler baptised 21st July 1861 (married Annie Form on 15th February 1884 both lived in Potter Street, Jarrow. Was lodging in Jarrow in 1881 census as Jacob Keeler, Coalminer)

Emma Jane Keeler baptised 8th May 1864

Elizabeth Keeler baptised 29th March 1829, buried 10th May 1830 aged 1.

Richard Keeler baptised 8th August 1830

Susan Keeler aged 27 was buried 23rd October 1831 – possibly Susannah above

William Keeler aged 27 was buried 16th October 1835 – possibly William above

In 1829 Hannah Keeler was buried on 23rd August aged 1 month (no baptism records)

In 1834 Susannah Elizabeth Keeler was baptised on 22nd July, only her mother was named as Mary Keeler

In 1835 Stephen Keeler was buried on 16th June as an infant (no baptism records)

John Keeler and Mary Jarvis (both 26) were married on the 20th February 1852 at Corpusty Parish Church, witnessed by William Keeler. Their banns were read 28th December 1851 and 4th January 1852 at Corpusty Parish Church. There is an entry for the death of Mary Keeler aged 35 on 21st April 1863. They had the following children :

Henry Carter Keeler baptised 13th March 1853

Ann Mary Keeler baptised 19th June 1859

Albert Keeler baptised 19th June 1859, entry for burial of Albert Keeler dated 8th May 1861 aged 6

Georgina Keeler baptised 5th August 1860 (in the 1881 census she was a General Servant to Julia Ann Clark of Wood Dalling)

Henry Keeler and Sarah Ann Pinchin (Corpusty) had their banns read on 22nd October, and 29th October 1865. One child is mentioned in the register :

Mary Maria Keeler baptised 23rd October 1868. Henry is mentioned as a miner from Oakensham, Durham.

John Keeler (widower aged 39) married Hannah Scottow (aged 23) on 25th December 1864 (possibly same John as above) at Corpusty Parish Church, witnessed by William Keeler. Their banns were read on 30th October, 13th November and 20th November 1864. They had the following children :

Arthur Keeler baptised 28th January 1866

Edward Keeler baptised 13th February 1869

Richard Keeler baptised 26th January 1876 (born 1870 from 1881 census)

Hannah Mary Keeler baptised 26th January 1876 (born 1872 from 1881 census)

Anna Jane Keeler baptised 26th January 1876 (It appears that these three although baptised on the same day were not triplets!)

Mary Susannah Keeler born about 1878 in Corpusty. Mary Susannah Keeler (aged 20) married Alfred White (aged 24) on 21st October 1897, witnessed by John Keeler and David White. Their banns were read on 26th September, 3rd October and 10th October 1897.

John Keeler aged 73 died 4th September 1898.

Richard Keeler (labourer aged 18, may be the Richard Keeler baptised on 26th January 1876) married Laura Jane Grand (aged 23) on 11th July 1888 at Corpusty Parish Church. Witnessed by John Keeler. Their banns were read on 24th June, 1st July and 8th July 1888. They possibly had the following children :

Jane Elizabeth Keeler baptised 12th March 1893

? Cloudlesley Grand Keeler born about 1890 mentioned on the war memorial in Corpusty Parish Church as having died 27th April 1917 aged 28 as Lance Corporal. From the Commonwealth War Graves Commission website Private 23/335 25th (Tyneside Irish) Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers, son of Richard Keeler, husband of Lilley Keeler, died Monday 9th April 1917 aged 27. Buried at Bailleul Road East Cemetery, St Laurent-Blangy, Pas de Calais. He had previoulsy served with the Yorkshire Regiment and joined the army on the 20th April 1910 but was discharged 2 months later due to "not being likley to become an efficient soldier".

In 1895 Edward Keeler was buried on 12th December aged 29 (born about 1866 – no other records)

In 1912 Walter Keeler (Aylsham) was buried on 11th February aged 62 (born about 1850 – no other records, possibly Walter Robert Keeler, son of Joseph & Martha on page 1)

The following records are from gravestones in Saxthorpe Graveyard itself :

Horace Keeler 1907 – 1994 & Doris Elizabeth Keeler 1909 – 1994 buried 8th April 1994, apparently they both died of natural causes within a week of each other.

Arthur Keeler buried 6th June 1975 aged 74 and Alice Keeler buried 15th January 1994 aged 87.

Pat (patrick?) Keeler buried 29th March 1969 – no age given
