1.	Robert Keeler - born about 1770 whereabouts unknown. Robert Keeler married Maria Marks on 13th October 1790 
at St Augustine's by banns (FCP/St.Aug/R/4(b)5 - Entry 281) both signed the register. There is an entry for the 
baptism of Maria Marks 21st April 1771 in St. Augustine-the-less (daughter of Philip and Grace Marks). In the Bristol 
Directory of 1792-4 there is a Robert Keeler a taylor (sic) residing in Rosemary Lane. In the IGI and Vital Records 
Index there are 3 children born to Robert Keeler and Maria his wife. Robert died in 1802 leaving a will dates 4th 
September 1800 which left all his worldly goods (less than £100) to Maria. Maria carried on as a tailor and in the 
Matthews Directory from 1820 to 1839 she was noted as living  at 16 St Johns Street. She died in 1842 (December 
quarter 1842 Clifton 11/189) having made a will dated 25th January 1832 with a codicil attached later. Her will 
left property in Charlotte Square St Mary Redcliffe to her son Robert (a tailor) and property at Picton Street to 
her son Jabez, and her codicil also mentioned a Henry Keeler being the son of Jabez who was to receive some silver 
from her estate.


1.1	Elizabeth Keeler - born 6th October 1791 and christened 3rd June 1792 (VRI FHL1597221- FC35481/PT/1(a)1 entry 
114) at the Penn Street Tabernacle, no other information available.

1.2	Robert Keeler - born 20th December 1794  and christened 27th September 1796 at the Penn Street tabernacle, 
Calvinistic Methodist (IGI - FC35481/PT/1(a)1 entry 178). A Robert Keeler appears in the Bristol Poll book from 1820 
and his occupation is given as cabinet maker (John Street and Montague Street) and after 1841 a taylor in Black Parade, 
St James. In the 1852 poll book there is a Robert Keeler as a Beer House Keeper in Lower Church Lane, St Michael. There 
is an entry for a death of a Robert Keeler in the December quarter of 1867 (ref Clifton 6a/111). There is also a record 
of a Robert Keeler being buried at the Eastville Workhouse Rosemary Green Burial Ground on the 1st December 1867 Grave No 707
and it is possible that he spent his last days here.

1.3	Jabez Keeler - born 20th April 1797 and christened 8th July 1798 at the Penn Street Tabernacle (IGI - 
FC35481/PT/1(a)1 entry 198).  He married  Ann Franklin on 25th December 1819 in St Michaels (she was born about 1801). 
Jabez first appears in the Matthews Directory of Bristol in 1823 being resident at 1 Picton Street and was a cabinet maker, 
this is the house that he was later left by his mother Maria. In the Bristol Poll book of  1852 he is an Organ builder. 
Jabez died in the September quarter of 1877 (ref Bristol 6a/50). In the 1881 Census Ann was still living at 1a Picton 
Street and was a Straw Hat maker. She died in 1889 aged 90

1.3.1	Henry Keeler - was christened 5th November 1820 in St James, Bristol (FCP/St.J/R/2(b)6 entry 1791) his parents 
being Jabez and Ann Keeler of St Pauls a Cabinet maker.He first appears in the Bristol Poll book of 1847 where he is 
mentioned as a householder in the Lower Arcade (in the central Broadmead shopping area) , in the 1852 entry he is now 
a music seller in the same premises. He married Jane Hillier in the March quarter of 1844 (ref Bristol 11/112). In 1848 
there is a record of a H. Keeler publishing "Bristol Quadrilles composed in commemoration of Free Port Day". In the 1881 
Census Henry aged 60 and Jane aged 59 (both born in Filton??) were living at 76 Berkeley Road with their sons Albert 
Ernest aged 19 and George F aged 16 both pawnbrokers. According to the Probate records Henry Keeler of 76 Berkeley Road 
Bishopston Bristol retired music-seller died 11 April 1902  Probate Bristol 12th May to Ruldolph Matthew Keeler pawnbroker 
and Albert Ernest Keeler shopkeeper Effects £18770 1s. 9d.

1.3.1.1.	Henri Beethoven Keeler - Was born 18th May 1847 in the parish of St James, Bristol. On his birth 
certificate his fathers occupation is given as Professor of Music and living at 18 Lower Arcade. He married Jessie 
Louisa Gilliam 15th July 1868 in Westbury on Trym Parish Church (IGI Batch M008476) and his occupation was Pawn Broker, 
Jessie lived in Cotham and her father was Henry Gilliam. In the 1881 Census they were living at 7 St James Churchyard 
and his occupation was given as Pawnbroker, with his children Frank aged 10, Percy aged 8 and Rudolph aged 5 all scholars. 
They had a servant called Maria Rownly who was born in India. In the 1911 Census he was widowed aged 63 and still a pawnbroker,
and living with hos sons Frank Arthur and Percy. According to the probate records Henri Beethoven Keeler of 
89 Staple Hill Road Fishponds Bristol pawnbroker died 20 March 1922 Probate Bristol 22 August to Frank Arthur Keeler and 
Percy Keeler pawnbrokers. Effects £21814 2s. 7d. 

1.3.1.1.1	Frank Arthur Keeler - was born on 22nd August 1870, on his birth certificate his fathers occupation is 
given as Pawn Broker and he was born at 7 St James Churchyard. In the 1881 census he was living with his father as he 
was in the 1901 census when his occupation was given as "All out of work". In the 1911 Census he was living with his father.
No known children.

1.3.1.1.2	Percy Keeler - was born on 11th May 1872 at home, on his birth certificate his fathers occupation was 
given as a Pawn Broker and they were living at 7 St James Churchyard. In the 1881 census he was living with his father 
as he was in the 1901 census when his occupation was given as Clerk. In the 1911 Census he was living with his father as an assistant.
No known children.

1.3.1.1.3	Rudolph Leopold Keeler - was born on 23rd July 1876 in Berkeley Road, Horfield. in the 1881 census he 
was living with his father as a scholar. In the 1901 census he appears to have moved to Birmingham where he was a clothiers 
assistant. He married in the December quarter of 1905 (ref Clifton 6a/12) 25th October 1905 to Ethel Kate Gay. His 
occupation on the marriage certificate is Clothier of 12 Churchyard, St James. Ethel is a spinster and her father is 
James Jay. In the 1911 Census Rudolph is an inmate at Gloucester County Lunatic Assylum in Horton Road. His previos employment was
Tailor, he was 33 at the time.

1.3.1.1.3.1	Mabel Keeler - was born on 22nd May 1906 in Staple Hill, Mangotsfield, on her birth certificate her 
fathers occupation is given as Pawn Broker. In the 1911 Census she is living with her Gradnparents and Mother (Ethel) in Mount
Pleasant, Mount Hill, Kingswood

1.3.1.1.3.2	Roma Keeler - in the 1911 Census she is aged 1 and staying with her gran parents and mother.

1.3.1.2.	Rudolph Matthew Keeler - Was born in the June quarter of 1853 in the parish of St James, Bristol. 
he married Elizabeth M ? in the March quarter of 1875 (ref Clifton 6a/162) and in the 1881 census they were living 
at 8 Marlborough Street in St James with a servant called Sarah Dunn, his occupation in given as Master Pawn Broker. 
There is an entry for another marriage in the June quarter of 1893 (ref Clifton 6a/111). In the 1901 census he is 
living with his new wife Rosa (born Luccombe Somerset approx 1868) with his father Henry Keeler (presumably at 76 
Berkeley Road) and his occupation is still Pawn Broker. From the 1901 census there appear to be 3 children. In the 1911 Census
they are confirmed at 76 Berkeley Road, Rudolph is a 57 year old Pawnbroker together with his wife Rose F. In the 
probate records there is the following entry Rudolph Matthew Keeler of 76 Berkeley Road Bishopston Bristol pawnbroker 
died 19 January' 1923 Probate Bristol 30 May to Rudolph Henry Albert Keeler and Reginald Arthur Keeler pawnbrokers.

1.3.1.2.1		Henry Keeler - born approx 1883.

1.3.1.2.2		Rudolph Henry Albert Keeler - born approx 1894, Pawn broker. In the 1911 Census he is a 17 year old
assistant Pawnbroker. In the 1931 Kelly's Directory of Bristol a Rudolph Henry Keeler was living at 76 Berkeley Road, Bishopston.

1.3.1.2.3		Reginald Arthur Keeler - born approx 1896 (birth entry for Reginald Arthur Keeler born December 
quarter of 1895 ref Bristol 6a/26). Pawn broker. In the 1911 Census he is a 15 year old assistant Pawnbroker.In the 1931 
Kelly's Directory of Bristol a Reginald Arthur Keeler was living at 615 Gloucester Road, Horfield.

1.3.1.3		Albert Ernest Keeler - born in the June quarter of 1861 (ref Bristol 6a/64), he married Annie Helena ?. 
In the 1881 Census he is a 19 year old Pawn Broker living with his father in Berkeley road. According to the IGI married 
in 5th January 1882 in St George. In the 1901 Census he is shown as "Living on own means". In the 1911 Census he is 48 and
a Poor Law Attendant, living at 278 Fishponds Road eastville. Probate records show the following entry KEELER Annie Helena 
of 278 Fishponds Road Bristol (wife of Albert Ernest Keeler) died 26 May 1925 Administration Bristol 27 June to the said 
Albert Ernest Keeler gentleman. Effects £221 17s. In the 1931 Kelly's Directory of Bristol there is an Albert Ernest Keeler 
living at Broom Hill, Stapleton.

1.3.1.3.2		Lewis Keeler - born approx 1889 (Lewis John March quarter 1889 ref Barton Regis 6a/194), In the 1911
Census he was a boarder at 25 Victoria Park, Fishponds and his occupation is given as Butcher. Also marriage of Lewis J 
September quarter of 1913 to ? Lane (ref Bristol 6a/231). ). In the 1931 Kelly's Directory of Bristol a Lewis Keeler 
(Butcher) was living at 227 Lodge Causeway, Fishponds (tel 351).

1.3.1.3.3		Rose Keeler - born approx 1892 (Rosalina Jane June quarter 1891 ref Barton Regis 6a/94). 1911 Census has
her as a 20 year old paper bag maker. Also marriage of Rosilia J December quarter of 1916 to ? Butler (ref Bristol 6a/220)

1.3.1.3.4		Lillian Keeler - born approx 1893 (Lillian Louisa December quarter 1892 ref Barton Regis 6a/125?). The
1911 Census has her as a 18 year old Chcolate Sweet Maker.

1.3.1.3.5		Ernest Keeler - born approx 1895 (Ernest Lee March quarter 1895 ref Barton Regis 6a/106). 191 Census has him
as a 16 year old Railway Engine cleaner. Also marriage of Ernest L December quarter of 1918 to ? Fisher  (ref Clutton 6a/1058)

1.3.1.4		George F Keeler - born in the June quarter of 1865 (ref Clifton 6a/79), married in the December quarter of 
1888 (ref Bristol 6a/163), in 1881 census pawn broker living with his father. In 1901 census Pawn broker with wife Clara 
born approx 1861. In 1911 Census 47 year old Pawnbroker living at 92/94 St Marks Road, Easton.

1.3.1.4.1		Ivy Clare Keeler - born approx 1889 (Ivy Clare September quarter 1889 ref Barton Regis 6a/195) also 
marriage of Ivy C September quarter 1915 to ? Clifton (ref Bristol 6a/240). 1911 Census 21 yeras old with no occupation.

1.3.1.4.2		Florence May Keeler - born approx 1891, 1911 Census 19 year old Milliner

1.3.1.4.3		Violet Keeler - born approx 1893 (Violet June quarter 1892 ref Barton regis 6a/91). 1911 Census 18 
year old Dress maker. Also marriage of Violet March quarter 1914 to ? Langabeer (ref Bristol 6a/222)

1.3.1.4.4		George F Keeler - born approx 1895 (George Frederick March quarter 1895 ref Barton Regis 6a/128). 1911 Census 16
 year old at Apps Reutice Hosiery.

1.3.2	Maria Ann Keeler - baptised 1st January 1832 in St James (VRI FHL1596535), she married a Mr Edwards. In the 1881 
Census she was living at 1a Picton Street with her widowed mother Ann (aged 81) as Maria Ann Edwards and she was widowed 
and had a 24 year old daughter Thurza born in Melbourne, Australia. (ref FHL Film 1341598     PRO Ref RG11    Piece 2485
