Descendants of William Keeler of Bergh Apton, Norfolk


I have put this family history together based on the various census records and St Catherines records of
Births, Marriages and deaths. If anyone has any more information then please get in touch.


1.	William Keeler - born about 1840 in Oulton (may be William Keeler 1.4.2 in "The Keeler family of Oulton"
elsewhere on this website). William Keeler married Georgina ?? in Norwich either in 1858 or 1860. Georgina was from
Ringland. In the 1881 census they were living at White Heath Bergh Apton with a number of their children and William
was a Market gardener. William died 6th June 1902 (ref Loddon 4b/132) and left his estate valued £407 15s 6d to his wife. 
Georgina died 1st November 1911 aged 72 and their gravestone is in Bergh Apton churchyard.

1.1	Emma Sarah Ann Keeler - born in December quarter of 1861 (ref Loddon 4b/202) and married June quarter 1891 
in Norwich (Norwich 4b/190) possibly to a Mr Newman.

1.2	John Keeler - born in December quarter 1863 (ref Loddon 4b/205) in Thurton according to the 1881 census and his
occupation is given as blacksmith. He married Martha Royall in the June quarter of 1888 (ref Depwade 4b/403). She was 
born in Ashwelthorpe about 1870. Martha died in the March quarter of 1914 aged 45 (ref Loddon 4b/306).

1.2.1	Reginald James Keeler - born in the September quarter of 1888 (ref Depwade 4b/233), married Mildred Constance Mackerell 
June quarter of 1918 (ref Loddon 4b/423). She was born in the June quarter of 1890 (ref Loddon 4b/423). They emigrated to
Australia where Reginald died in 1927 and is buried in the Old Wikepin Cemetery West Australia. (Info from Des Keeler) 
They had 8 children who may all have been born in Australia as no references in BMD records.

Mildred re-married after Reginalds death to a William Jospeh Mahar and had 3 further children (Martin, Alfred and Herbert). 
Mildred died in 1976 in Narrogin WA and is buried in the New Wikepin Cemetery.

1.2.2	William Keeler - born about 1890, there is a William J Keeler marrying Eva May Waterton in the June quarter
of 1913. William died 22nd December 1961 aged 71. Eva died 25th May 1991 aged 101.

1.2.2.1	Derek Thomas Keeler - born about 1930, died 4th July 1933 aged 3.

1.2.3 Florence Alice Keeler - born December quarter 1892 (ref Loddon 4b/223) married ? Michelle December quarter of 1912 
(ref Loddon 4b/591).

1.2.4	Lillian May Keeler - born September quarter of 1894 (ref Loddon 4b/283?), married Horace Edward Sayer December
quarter of 1920 (ref Loddon 4b/632a). Lillian died in 1960 and is buried at Chedgrave.

1.2.4.1	Ronald Sayer - married Mary ? and has two girls?

1.2.5	Sydney George Keeler - born June quarter of 1899 (ref Loddon 4b/233), Private 133964 41st Bn, Machine Gun Corps 
(Infantry), Sydney Keeler was killed on 25th July 1918 and is buried in the war cemetery at Lijssenthoek (XXVIII. G. 15.) 
near Poperinge in Belgium, a little to the west of Ypres. He was the son of John and Martha Keeler of Cooke’s Road on
the borders of Bergh Apton and Thurton.

1.2.6	Kate Keeler - born March quarter 1901 (ref Loddon 4b/220)

1.3	William Keeler - born in June quarter of 1865 (ref Loddon 4b/215) and died in March quarter 1898 aged 32.

1.4	George Robert Keeler - born March quarter of 1868 in Thurton (ref Loddon 4b/215) and was a farm labourer in the
1881 census. He married Eliza Hart in the June quarter of 1900 (ref Loddon 4b/371). In 1912 they were living at Threadneedle 
Street in Bergh Apton. George was a carpenter on the Beauchamp estate and a pub fiddler in his spare time. George died
in 1935 and Eliza died on 30th December 1947 aged 79 and their gravestone is in Bergh Apton churchyard. I have
a picture of George and his family taken in 1912.


1.4.1 Alice Maud Keeler - Born in the March quarter of 1901 (ref Loddon 4b/219). 1.4.2 Arthur Ernest Keeler - born in the September quarter of 1902 (ref Loddon 4b/212). 1.4.3 William Keeler - no more information. 1.4.4 Percy Keeler - no more information. 1.4.5 Edward Keeler - The licencee of the Bell Innn Bergh Apton was Edward Keeler in 1937?. 1.5 Florence Beatrice Keeler - born in the March quarter of 1870 (ref Loddon 4b/227) in Bergh Apton, she wa a scholar in the 1881 census, she married Albert Hawkyard in December quarter of 1897 (ref Loddon 4b/585). In the 1901 census they are in newington and Albert is a Police Sergeant and was born in Huddersfield in 1867. 1.5.1 Albert Hawkyard - born about 1899 in Bethnal Green. There is a record of Rifleman 175059 Albert William Hawkyard who died 10th August 1918 who was aged 19 and a member of the London Regiment Post Office Rifles son of Albert and Florence Hawkyard of Kelmsdale Lodge, Rolvenden Kent who is commemorated on the Vis-en-Artois memorial in France. 1.5.2 Harold Hawkyard - born about 1900 in Bethnal Green. 1.6 Ellen Edith Keeler - born in the June quarter of 1872 in Bergh Apton (ref Loddon 4b/206). 1.7 Alice Maud Keeler - born in the June quarter of 1874 in Bergh Apton (ref Loddon 4b/207). 1.8 Kate Ellen Keeler - born in the September quarter of 1877 in Bergh Apton (ref Loddon 4b/207), she married Herbert Frosdick in the December quarter of 1900 in Yarmouth (ref Yarmouth 4b/4). In the 1901 census Herbert was a wheelwright in Oulton and was born in Bungay in 1875. There are a number of Keelers that I can't associate with families, for the record these are Mabel Martha Keeler - born June quarter 1893 (ref Loddon 4b/227), died September quarter 1893 (ref Loddon 4b/149) aged 0 Albert Victor Keeler - born September quarter 1897 (ref Loddon 4b/230), died June quarter 1898 (ref Loddon 4b141) aged 0 Emma Constance Keeler - born December quarter 1890 (ref Loddon 4b/193), died December quarter 1890 (ref Loddon 4b/150) aged 0 Gladys Muriel Keeler - born March quarter 1896 (ref Loddon 4b/227), died June quarter 1896 (ref 4b/126) aged 0 Ralph Keeler - born June quarter 1901 (ref Loddon 4b/215) no further details.
