December 1,1900--On the morning of November 25, a couple of young people drove up in a carriage to Squire Jo. Trotter�s gate and asked to be married. The Squire accommodated them, as they sat in their vehicle, and when it was done they drove smiling away. They were His. Baggett, son of Jo. Baggett of the 18th District, and Miss Dora Karnes, daughter of George Karnes, of the 22nd. They are both very prominent popular young people of their community, and enter upon their married life with very bright prospects ahead of them.

July 25,1909--Mr. W.O. Baggett and Miss Lorena Baggett were married this morning in the waiting room at the L.& N. passenger depot. Esquire W.R. Attaway performed the ceremony. The couple is from District 20 and are very popular in that vicinity.

December 29,1928--The wedding of much beautifully interest to a large circle of friends was solemnizedat high noon Thursday at Antioch Methodist Episcopal Church. The ceremony uniting in wedlock Miss Mary Ussery and Aubrey Barham of Petersburg, Tennessee was impressively said by Rev. C.T. Cook in the presence of a large assemblage of interested friends and relatives.
A program of appropriate nuptial music was given by Misses Esther Neblett and Allie Willis, cousins of the bride. Miss Lottie Mai Lyle, violinist, played the �Flower Song�. Miss Willis sang �I Love you Truly� and �At Dawning�. Decorations were in keeping with the Christmas season. A small white gate with posts decorated with candelabra bearing lighted tapers was the entrance to the marriage altar. Little Angeline Edmondson charmingly dressed in a frock of white was flower girl, while Mrs. Lane Edmondson, also dressed in white, opened the gate for the bride�s entry.
The bride wore a modish gown of beige crepe fashioned on ensemble style with hat to harmonize. She wore an antique gold brooch which her grandmother, Mrs. P.P. Neblett, had worn on a similar occasion in the long ago. She carried a chatelaine bouquet of roses and valley lilies.
Rodney Lyle, Robert Wyatt (cousin), Edwin and John Ussery (brothers of the bride) served as ushers.
Mr.& Mrs. Barham will make their home at Petersburg, Tennessee. She is the daughter of Mr.& Mrs. George Ussery, and his parents are Mr.& Mrs. W.T. Barham of Petersburg, Tennessee.

The marriage occurred at the bride�s home near Shiloh in the presence of a few friends.

The ceremony was performed at the residence of the bride�s father, William McCauley. Like a provident man, Mr. Fessey had provided a home for his charming bride and thither they went at once. They have the best wishes of a host of friends.

July 25,1890--Last Thursday at the home of the bride on the south side, Esquire J.K. Ramey united in marriage B.G. Harper and Mrs. Ophelia Batson, relict of the late Zach Batson. This is the 7th combined plunge the happy couple have taken in the matrimonial sea, this being the groom�s third wife and the bride�s 4th husband. The testimony, if in accordance with their example, would be that marriage is not a failure.

February 3,1919--One of the prettiest home weddings of the season was that of Miss Jessie Rice Abernathy and Mr. Clyde D. Lunn which was solemnized at the home of the bride in the Bend on Saturday afternoon.
The home was beautifully decorated for the occasion. The parlor, which was the scene of this happy event, being especially attractive; white candles, ferns and ivy being used to carry out a color scheme of green and white.
The guests were received by Mrs. Charlie Warfield, Misses Jennie Morrison, Nannie Swift, and Mabel Abernathy of Erin. Mrs. John Ussery kept the guest register.
Immediately preceding the ceremony, Mrs. Laura Edmondson sang most charmingly �I Love You Truly�. The bridal couple advanced to an improvised altar to the strains of the Mendelssohn�s Wedding March played by Miss Lillian Swift, where Rev. P.G. Johnson performed the impressive ceremony.
The bride was lovely in a taupe traveling suit with hat to harmonize and carried white carnations. She is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. A.J. Abernathy.
The couple left immediately after the ceremony for Nashville where Mr. Lunn is engaged in business.

October 17,1890--The brilliant affair of the season was the marriage last Wednesday evening of Dr. G. Meadows of Blockton, Alabama and Miss Bertha Hunt, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. S.D. Hunt. Rev. W.A. Turner performed the ceremony. Attendants: Holmes Orgain and Miss Bettie Meadows; Louis Neblett and Miss Annie Hunt. After the ceremony the party repaired to the residents of J.E. Meadows and were royally entertained. Mr. Meadows is a bookkeeper for Aldrich, Caudie, Tyler & Company, one of the largest dry goods establishments at Blockton.

December 26,1908--Mr. David McCarroll and Miss Clara Lyle were married this afternoon at the Magnolia House, Rev. J.J. Stowe of Madison Street Methodist Church, performing the ceremony. It was not a runaway affair. The bride is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Reed Lyle of Hackberry and an attractive and popular young lady. The groom is a prominent young man of sterling worth who lives near Louise. The happy couple left on the Mineral Train for Hackberry to spend a few days.

June 5,1928--Miss Martha Allen to wed Mr. Robert W. Ritter in the late afternoon. The impressive ceremony will be said just at dusk, an uncle of the bride, Rev. Felix H. Coleman of Mulberry, Tennessee, Pastor of the Lynchburg circuit, officiating.
Nuptial music will be rendered by Miss Virginia Flowers Ritter, Sister of the groom, accompanying Miss Lattie May Lyle, violinist, and Mrs. Lauren Edmondson who will sing �Because�. The piano and violin duet will be �Melody of Love� and �Mendelssohn�s March� will be used as recessional.
A pretty floral arrangement of pink and white will be emphasized through artistic placement of roses and fronds to form an altar in the living room and at tastefully selected places throughout the house. From her trousseau, the bride has chosen to wear georgette toilette of the palest rose-pink with rarely effective laces, a hat with lace trimming and the same nuance of color. Her flowers will be a shower bouquet of roses and sweet peas in the Dresden shade.
The couple will leave for a short bridal trip to Chattanooga and other points and upon their return will be at home in their apartment which they have taken at 408 College Street with Mr. and Mrs. W.B. Weakly.

She is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Hadley Allen and he is the son of Circuit and Criminal Court Clerk H.W. Ritter & Mrs. Ritter. Both are graduates of Clarksville High School and the groom has been connected with Ladd�s Motor Shop for several years in a mechanical way.

January 1,1917--On Thursday December 28, Mr. Vernon Swift and Miss Sallie Morrison, both of Cunningham, were happily united in the holy bonds of matrimony by the Rev. G.L. Hensley at Rye�s Chapel Church. At 2:15, Miss Lillian Swift, a sister of the groom, began the Wedding March and the party entered in the following manner: Miss Audrey Batson and Reuben Swift, Miss Jessie Abernathy and Wade Morrison, Miss Pearl Batson and Thomas Bumpus, and Miss Lillian Batson and Allen Harvey. Following these came the bride and groom.
The bride was beautifully dressed in a coat-suit and the groom wore black. The church was decorated neatly but not elaborately in the white and gold effect. It was darkened and artistically lighted while the double arch under which the bride and groom stood was lighted by candles.

December 19,1906--A pretty wedding was solemnized on Monday evening at 7:00 at Mt. Zion Church in District 22, when E.H. Thompson and Miss Clara McCurdy were united in marriage. The attendants were Misses Nannie Swift, Bertie Harvey, Mabel Cox, and Eva Swift, and Messrs. P. Wall, Thomas Weems, Burr Batson, and Walter Swift. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Lansom and the church was filled with friends of contracting parties. Mr. Thompson is a well-known young planter of this county and his bride is the daughter of J.D. McCurdy. She is an attractive and accomplished young lady who is quite popular with a large circle of friends.

January 1,1914--On Wednesday December 24,1913 Miss Mary Moffitt of the Bend and Mr. Eldon Wall of near Cumberland Furnace were quietly married at the Methodist Parsonage near Salem by Rev. J.M. Oakley. Both the bride and her attendants were attired in attractive suit coats. The attendants were: Mr.& Mrs. Floyd Melon, Miss Clara Neblett and Mr. Homer Coke.
The groom is a prosperous young farmer. The bride is a daughter of Mr. L.S. Moffitt. They�ll make their new home near Cumberland Furnace.

December 14,1906--An unexpected wedding that will be of interest to many people in this vicinity was that of Miss Lattie Neblett of the Bend to Mr. G.M. Willis, which occurred at 3:30 Thursday afternoon at the residence of Rev. J.L. Chenault on the south side. The couple was attended by Mr. & Mrs. John R. Edmondson, Mrs. Lilly Ussery, and Misses Bessie and Laura Wyatt. The ceremony was pronounced by Rev. Chenault.
The bride is the daughter of the late P.P. Neblett and a young lady of fine character who has a host of friends. Mr. Willis formerly lived at Ridgetop and was connected with the L & N Railroad, but was recently moved to the west. The best wishes of many friends will follow them.

November 14,1896--Tomorrow County Trustee Thomas H. Batson will lead to the altar one of the most popular young ladies of the southern portion of the county, Mrs. Agnes V. Schmittou. The ceremony will be performed by Rev. W. B. Lowery at the Methodist Church at Louise, on the Clarksville Mineral R.R. at 2 o'clock.
Mr. Batson is one of the most prominent citizens of the county. He resided for a long period in the Louise vicinity, and only recently moved to Clarksville. He is a man of business thrift, untiring energy, and a whole-souled christian gentleman.
Miss Schmittou is the daughter of W. F. V. Schmittou of Dickson County. She possesses all the attributes necessary in a woman for a good wife. She is a woman of culture and refinement, having received a thorough education at the Edgewood Normal School.
Immediately after the ceremony, the couple will drive to Clarksville, and will be at home to their friends at their residence on the corner of Union and First St. Mrs. Batson will prove an addition to the social circles of Clarksville.

On Wednesday, March 21 at the home of the bride's parents in Cherry Grove, will take place one of the prettiest weddings that have ever been solemnized in this county.
The bride-to-be is Miss Mary Lou Mills, the charming daughter of Mr. Samuel A. and Mrs. Buncie C. Mills, a niece of the late John D. Moore; and the prospective groom is Mr. Louis R. Harris, one of the most enterprising and prosperous young planters of the Cherry Grove neighborhood.
Immediately after the ceremony, the bridal party will go to the home of the groom's parents, Mr. Benjamin F. and Mrs. Margaret Harris, where they will be dined; and the day following, they will be tendered a big dinner at the home of the bride's parents. They will begin housekeeping at once on the fine farm belonging to the groom about a mile and a half from Cherry Grove. The attendants will be:
Misses Sallie Mills, Katie Harris, Susie Brame, Mattie Trotter and Hattie Minor; and Messrs. Walter Minor, Andrew Rogers, Robert Mills, Burr Hinton and George Harris.
The young people are both well-known here, having a large family connected all over the county.
(This couple are buried at Martha's Chapel Cemetery. Mrs. Herbert Hargrove is their daughter.)
33 MATTIE SHELTON - SIDNEY HALL

September 30, 1913--Sidney Hall and Miss Mattie Shelton were quietly married at Corbandale on the 24th. The wedding was a runaway affair; the parents of the bride, Mr. and Mrs. William Shelton, interposing objections.
On the day of the wedding, the bride slipped away from her home at Marable's Crossing and joined Mr. Hall, who was waiting for her nearby. Together they went afoot to Corbandale, a distance of several miles, and hid under the railroad depot until the services of Squire Joe Corban could be secured to perform the ceremony. Luck played them kindly and the knot securely tied before the irate parents made their appearance. The happy couple have many friends in that section whose good wishes will follow them in their matrimonial venture.

October 8, 1908--Wednesday afternoon, a merry crowd of about 50 boarded the Special train for Louise to attend the marriage of Mr. Henry Pickering, Jr. and Miss Lena Mae Batson. The long, loud whistle of the engine signaled our approach and arrival at Louise, On alighting from the train, which stopped immediately in front of the gate, we were met and received by Messrs. George Green and Charlie Morton and Misses Fannie Frost Miller and Mary Roach. On the porch, we were received by Mr. and Mrs. Burney Batson, Mr. and Mrs. J.S. Rice, and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Batson.
The beautiful country home was a vision of rare lovliness with the long veranda covered with trailing vines of tinted autumn leaves, stately ferns and potted plants. Miss Miller of Murfreesboro rendered the wedding music.
Entering the porch, the bride and groom proceeded to the center of the porch assisted by Rev. J.J. Stowe, Pastor of the Madison St. Methodist Episcopal Church. The bride was beautifully attired in a traveling suit of grey, carrying a bouquet of yellow chrysanthemums. The groom, a splendid type of young manhood, looked unusually well on this happy occasion.
Amid hearty good wishes and showers of rice, they boarded the Special for Clarksville where they were entertained with an elegant supper, bridal in every detail, by Mr. George Green of the Arlington Hotel, after which they left on the evening train for a trip South, accompanied as far as Nashville by Messrs. Green and Morton and Misses Miller and Roach. On their return trip, they be at home to their friends at the residence of the groom's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.G. Pickering.
The presents whch are numerous and costly attest to the high regard in which this popular young couple are held by their many friends.

February 28, 1913--A pretty home wedding last evening, Miss Mary Corban and Mr. H. Clyde Vickers, at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. B.J. Corban at Corbandale. Rev. J.C. Roberts, Pastor of Palmyra Methodist Church, officiated.
The bride's natural beauty was enhanced by a becoming suit of tan with hat to match, in which she was attired for traveling. She carried a large bouquet of bride's roses and ferns.

Miss Nannie Davis and Miss Bettie Corban. The bride's brother, Mr. Sidney Corban, sang "A Perfect Day". Miss Joanne Corban, sister of the bride, played Mendelssohn's Wedding March.

September 15,1922--Miss Mary Elizabeth Davis and Mr. Lucian Clifton Batson were quietly married Thursday afternoon at 4:30 at the Cumberland Presbyterian parsonage, Rev. A.C. Biddle performing the ceremony. Mrs. Staton Davis was the only attendant.
Mrs. Batson is the attractive daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Hezakiah Davis of Hackberry. Mr. Batson is the son of R.I. Batson and is a progressive young businessman, being in the mercantile business at Cunningham.
After the ceremony the young couple left for a trip to Birmingham and other points after which they will be at home in Cunningham.

December 28,1903--Married at the residence of J.D. Fletcher, in Shiloh, Tennessee December 25, 1903, Mr. Cullum Harris manager of the Southside Mercantile Company�s store at Shiloh, and Miss Jennie Lee Roberts, of Princeton, Kentucky. The ceremony was performed by Rev. C.R. Roberts of Princeton, the father of the bride. Mr. Hill, of Ellis Mills and Miss Sue McFall Powers and Mr. Willie Roberts and Miss Addie Powers were the attendants.
After the ceremony and congratulations by the many friends, all retired to the dining room, where awaited them a sumptuous dinner, which they enjoyed to their heart�s content. It reminded one of the old time hospitality enjoyed by the Southern people before the war.
In the evening Mr. Harris and his bride left for Southside, the home of his father, carrying the best wishes of their host of friends with them.
Tuesday they will visit relatives and friends at Princeton, Kentucky and will be home in Shiloh the first of January.

June 27,1912--One of the prettiest weddings ever solemnized in the county was that of Mr. Daniel Sullivan and Miss Cora Laird yesterday afternoon at 5:30 at the home of the bride�s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Laird of Palmyra.
The Laird home was beautifully decorated with cut flowers and evergreens and many friends of the couple were present to witness the ceremony. Rev. F.L. Hawkins officiated. Mr. Oscar Swift was the best man and Miss Joanne Corban maid of honor. Miss Winnie Swift and Mr. Joe Kearney were attendants. Miss Helen Swift played the wedding march. As the ceremony was being performed she played �Melody of Love�.
The bride is a lovable young woman whose graces have endeared her to all who know her. Mr. Sullivan was reared at Shiloh, but for several years has resided at Paris, being employed in the train service of the L & N Railroad.

October 9,1921--�Maizeland�, the bride�s beautiful country home, was the scene of the wedding Tuesday morning October 8th of Miss Helen Haynes, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Pugh Haynes to Mr. Rodney Andrew Lyle. The ceremony was at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. P.G. Johnson officiating in the impressive nuptial rites in the presence of a large number of relatives and friends.
Miss Lottie Mae Lyle, Violinist, Mr. Ray Meacham, Vocalist and Miss Elsie Davis, Pianist, gave the nuptial music which preceded the taking of the vows. Miss Davis played softly during the ceremony �To A Wild Rose� and used "Lohengrin�s Wedding March" for the entrance of the wedding party and Mendelssohn�s for the recessional. Miss Lyle, rendered as a solo �Humoresque� and Mr. Meacham sang �Out of this World�, �Our Heart�, and �I Love You Truly�. Miss Davis played at the piano �Cupid�s Garden�.
The porch of the lovely home was background for the wedding party and for the lands of Jackson vine which artistically framed the windows and door. Flowers and Fern were advantageously used to complement the pretty setting.
The bride wore a handsome fall frock of African brown chiffon velvet with a small close-fitting hat of matching shade. Her only adornment was a string of pearls, a gift from the groom and she wore a corsage of Columbia roses.
Mrs. T.L. Walker of Nashville, sister of the bride, who attended as Matron of Honor and Miss Marie Riggins, a school girl chum of the bride, who was her only brides maid were gowned alike in models of chocolate velvet. Jarvis Lyle was Best Man and Maurice Haynes was Groomsman.

Giles was recently arrested on the charge of violating the age of consent law and gave bond last week for an appearance at the next term of court. It is probable that the wedding will result in the case being dropped against him. Giles was accompanied to the courthouse by the young lady�s father, Henry Suiter.

Calvin Batson and Eudora Harper, both young and pious, stood before a Reverend gentleman and the twain were made one flesh. A delightful supper, cheerful conversation, several of Zion�s sweet songs and we retire to rest. No coarse just nor unholy dance nor vulgar �play� desecrated the occasion. Such things are as unbecoming at a wedding as they are at church. Robert Harvey cut the ring out of the bride�s cake which constitutes him the next bridegroom. Eskew Batson wants him to hurry up his nuptials as he is impatient to be on the same line. I am not so sure that the ring sign is very reliable. At Joe Corban�s and Kitty Batson�s wedding last winter on the same creek, Dal�l Mills �cut the ring� and he is running at large yet. I reckon of all the things in the world courting is the hardest to do and it puts in the most awkward shape when a youngster is really in love.

November 23, 1905--A wedding of much interest to the many friends of the popular young people was that of Miss Anna Neblett and Mr. Sidney Lyle, which took place Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 at the home of the bride�s parents Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Neblett, on the south side. A limited number of relatives and friends were present and the house was appropriately decorated with flowers. The ceremony was performed by Reverend Thorton, under a large wedding bell of chrysanthemums and ivy. The bride looked very pretty in a blue tailor-made suit with hat to match, while the groom wore the conventional black. The attendants were Miss Nina Neblett, sister of the bride; Mr. Jos. Carney, Miss Virginia Edmondson and Mr. Herbert Orgain. After the marriage, the couple repaired to the of the groom�s parents, where a reception was tendered them last evening. The bride is quite popular among a large circle of friends, and the groom is the son of Mr. Reed Lyle, and a promising young farmer. Both have many friends, who wish them much happiness and prosperity in their new life. The happy couple were the recipients of many handsome presents.

November 27,1922--Miss Hilda Nolen daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Nolen of Palmyra whose engagement to Mr. Julius Layman of Galconda, Illinois takes place next week was the honoree of a beautifully planned linen shower given last evening by Miss Myrtle Laird at her home in Palmyra. The room was decorated with oak leaves and potted plants and presented a very attractive appearance.
Progressive Rook was played, the prize falling to Miss Nolen. A floral contest was won by Miss Elsie Davis.
The gifts were presented to the bride in a cart decorated in pink and white.
A musical program given by Misses Elsie Davis and Mary E. Broome and Mrs. Aubery C. Broome was greatly enjoyed. A delicious salad course was served.
The guest list numbered 20. Mrs. George Myers of Nashville and Miss Elma Nolen assisted the hostess in entertaining.
The honoree was most attractive in a trousseau gown of brown satin with an arm bouquet to white chrysanthemums.

Graves. Only immediate friends and relatives were present.
The bride looked very becoming in a cream serge suit. For nearly five years she has been in employment as a long-distance operator for the Cumberland Telephone and Telegraph Company.
The groom for many years has been connected with the American Snuff Company and is a worthy and industrious young man.
Mr. and Mrs. Peacher left on the 8:47 train to visit the groom's relatives. They will be absent for a week or 10 days. On their return, they will live with the bride's mother on College Street.

Brandon Key of Camp Breckenridge, Kentucky served the groom as best man. Immediately after the ceremony, the couple left for a Southern wedding trip. When they return, they will be at home at 904 Madison Street.

She attended school at Hackberry and Montgomery Central High at Cunningham, Tennessee.
