63   EUDORA HARPER - J. CALVIN BATSON

From: Clarksville Leaf Chronicle

July 24,1875--Come with me to Barren Fork a prong of Bartons Creek and let us look in upon a small gathering at the residence of D.H. Harper the evening of the 14th. J. Calvin Batson and Eudora Harper, both young and pious, stood before a Reverend gentleman and the twain were made one flesh. A delightful supper, cheerful conversation, several of Zions sweet songs and we retire to rest. No coarse just nor unholy dance nor vulgar play desecrated the occasion. Such things are as unbecoming at a wedding as they are at church. Robert Harvey cut the ring out of the brides cake which constitutes him the next bridegroom. Eskew Batson wants him to hurry up his nuptials as he is impatient to be on the same line. I am not so sure that the ring sign is very reliable. At Joe Corbans and Kitty Batsons wedding last winter on the same creek, Dall Mills cut the ring and he is running at large yet. I reckon of all the things in the world courting is the hardest to do and it puts in the most awkward shape when a youngster is really in love.
