741 Saline St. Greenfield, Pa., late 1940sScalise Residence"This
picture was taken in the late 40's judging by the car. 741 is the
house with the steps in the front coming down the side. My mother tells
me that the house to the right (as you look at the picture) belong to
freed slaves back in the early 30's. There were two
families that may have been related to each other, the Finch's and the
Jefferson's. My mother used to play with one of the little
boys. She said her mother would take them over some food
and the welfare bread truck would come along once a week and
bring them bread and some milk. This part of Saline St. is and
was known as part of "The Run".
Eventually some of the streets would come up to Panther Hollow
then up to Oakland.
The house to the far left is no longer standing but the other houses are still standing. The slaves house has been changed and the front is now a garage. Denise Kaschauer Schreiber,
