Oakmont, PA is a tree-lined community along the Allegheny River and home to nationally televised PGA golf tournaments held at the Oakmont Country Club.  A railroad line runs down the center of the town, separating it into two halves. An attractive walkway along the railway is  maintained by the Oakmont Garden Society, along with other projects it deals with in the Borough. The upper half of town gently glides up a hillside where stately homes may be found. The lower half finds some homes marked with "Historical" markers and is closer to the riverfront and entrance into the community via the Hulton Bridge.

One of the gemstones of Oakmont's jewels is it's Carnegie Library which houses a wonderful collection of reading material. A separate area of the library is dedicated to History and Genealogy, relative to this quaint town, and monthly meetings are held by both groups.

The side entrance to the library (along the right side in above photo) is decorated with a ornamental cast-iron facade, and within the
entranceway sits a bronze scuplture of a little girl, reading a book, with her puppy sitting beside her.

The railroad running through the center of town displays a dramatic rustic appearance,
camouflaged by trees on both sides.

Oakmont is also home to the Oakmont-Verona Cemetery, found on the upper hillside and bounded by Pennsylvania & Maryland Avenues, and 10th & 12th Streets. This cemetery is in pristine condition, and it's caretakers deserve public recognition for a job "well done"!

There is a publication of a reading of this cemetery available for sale elsewhere on the Internet.
Some readings from this cemetery may be found at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~njm1/verona.htm

Oakmont is also home to Dormition Of The Holy Theotokos Greek Orthodox Church, Established in 1923. The church services many events in its' own Social Hall, including the annual Greek Day celebrations where ethnical culinary delights may be found. This church is located along Washington Avenue.  Below are some photos of its buildings.

The hillside in the background is alongside that portion of Route 28 By-Pass which suffered heavily from landslides during the past few years.
PENNDOT, using explosives, reduced the hillside to tiers hoping to prevent future problems.
