NORTH ZION LUTHERAN CEMETERY
5100 Brownsville Road
Pittsburgh, PA 15227

(Compiled & Copyrighted by Lois and Ed Coleman, 1995)
(Reproduced here by permission)

This cemetery is located on the property of the North Zion Lutheran Church, 5100 Brownsville Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15227.  It adjoins the church on Linhart Lane in Baldwin Borough, Allegheny County, PA.  The cemetery is well maintained but contains many broken, embedded and illegible stones.  The earliest burial appears to be 1812 and the most recent 1980.

North Zion Lutheran Church's origins date back to 1812 when the first church was built at the corner of what is now Route 51 and Brownsville Road in Whitehall.  The church was called Dutch Lutheran Church of Lower St. Clair Township.  A second church replaced the original log building in 1836 and was known as West Salem Lutheran Church. The present site, about two miles from the original site, was chosen in 1849 but the church built then was destroyed by a tornado. In 1859 the present church was built and dedicated as North Zion English Evangelical Lutheran Church. It has the distinction of being known as the oldest Lutheran congregation in Allegheny County.

This cemetery reading was done in the Summer of 1995 by Lois and Ed Coleman. Some information was added from records which were made available by the church. Stones have been read in numerical order starting at grave number 1.

Names marked with an asterisk share the same tombstone.
