Ahavath Achim and Pliskover Cemeteries are on the same hillside.  There was nothing to delineate where one cemetery ended and the other started. (See photo below).  I made an uneducated guess as where this line was but may have some headstones listed in the incorrect cemetery.  If anyone notices an incorrect placement please contact me and I will see that it is changed.

When I was photographing the headstones in this Jewish cemetery I was confused by finding 2 that were covered with sheets.  I learned that it is customary for the family to have an unveiling ceremony.  It is to be held after 11 months for parents and after 30 days for other close relatives, but no later than 1 year after the death.  The ceremony consists of reciting Psalms, a brief eulogy andremoval of the cloth.

 

Also, many of the headstones had a variety of small stones or pebbles placed there by loved ones that visit the grave.  It is believed that this is the end result of the ancient tradition of writing notes to the deceased and weighting it down with a stone.  After the paper disintegrated the stone was left behind.  Soon, some just left a stone which became a custom.
