Catherine Faller

FALLER - Sept 23, 1879, at her residence in this place, Mrs. Catherine
Faller, in the 77th year of her age. Although Mrs. Faller had been failing
rapidly for some months past, yet her death was rather sudden. No woman in
this community was better known or more highly esteemed. Her life had been
one of usefulness and constant labor. Born in Germany, she came to this town
with her husband, the late Anthony Faller, Esq., about the year 1830, and
first lived with him in a house that stood at or near to where Mr. Colbert's
hat store now is. Shortly afterwards, Mr. Faller purchased the property at
the south end of town, where Mrs. Faller died, then all woods, and cleared
out the same, Mrs. Faller, it is said, working by day at their shop in town,
a bakery, and at night picking brush or helping to clear out their land.
They are said to have been the first German family that settled in this
place, and she consequently the first woman from Germany who came among us.
All her life was devoted to labor and usefulness, and her death may be said
to be the result of a worn out system. We have thought these few words were
due to the memory of a woman who in her life performed so many acts of
charity, kindness and usefulness.
