(base of Flag Pole)

Swissvale Borough World War One Memorial

This memorial is located at the corner of Monongahela and McClure Avenues, on the lawn of the
Carnegie Free Library of Swissvale (not a branch of the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh).
It was dedicated sometime soon after the end of World War One and has been there ever since.
Behind this WW1 memorial is a flag pole, dedicated shortly thereafter (or perhaps at the same
time) in 1922, by the American Legion Post 63. Post 63 was later renamed after a fallen WW1
veteran as the "Daniel W. Brooks Post". In 1974, a memorial for veterans of all wars was
dedicated at the municipal building on the other side of the borough. In 1985, a companion to
this WW1 memorial was dedicated nearby on the other side of the library lawn for WW2, Korea
and Vietnam.
