DEATH TAKES AGED FORMER GLASSBLOWER

John Daniel Smith, 85, of Davis Street, Natrona Heights, lifelong valley resident who wss formerly employed as a glassblower and a steelworker, died this morning at 5:25 in Allegheny Valley Hospital from a heart ailment.

He had been ill but two weeks and had been hospitalized only two days.

Born at Hites in East Deer Township on June 6, 1860, he had been employed at the Fidelity Glass Company Brackenridge, and by West Penn Steel Company. In the same community, Mr. Smith was a member of the Glassblowers Association and the Old Timers, and had been a member of First United Presbyterian Church for the last 50 years.

He is survived by his wife, Clara Marshall Smith, three sons, J. Ronald, Tarentum; Kermit E., Sumner Street, Natrona Heights; and Hollis H., New Kensington; one daughter, Mrs. Leona Stivenson, Davis Street, Natrona Heights; 20 grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren. He also leaves one sister, Amelia Mineheart, of Butler.

Friends are being received in the home of his daughter, Mrs. George Stivenson, Sr., Natrona Heights. The body will lie in state in the First United Presbyterian Church from 12:30 to 2:30 pm.

NOTE: This obituary lists Clara Marshall Smith as surviving wife, but it is incorrect. She died 8 February 1933.
