Margaret Porter McAdams Obit

Margaret Porter McAdams

Mrs. William McAdams was something of a local celebrity as she and her
husband were among the first five residents of Braddock. She and her
husband received a write-up in the local Braddock newspaper, detailing
the celebration of their sixtieth anniversary, a few months before Mrs.
McAdams' death. This death notice from the Gazette features a picture
of Mrs. McAdams:

Mrs. William McAdams, Sr.

Mrs. Margaret Porter McAdams, aged 80, wife of William McAdams, Sr. died yesterday [August 17, 1916] at her home, 813 Washington avenue, Braddock, after a short illness. She was born at Old Green Springs Station, in Mifflin township, and was the daughter of James Porter, a pioneer coal operator of the lower Monongahela valley. She was married to William McAdams, a native of Somerset, Pa., in 1856, and the couple celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary last February. She was the oldest surviving charter member of the First Christian or Disciples Church of Braddock and was one of the organizers of the Women's Christian Church Board of Missions of the church. She leaves her husband; three sons, William, and Mark B. McAdams, Jr. [sic] of Braddock, and Dorsey McAdams of North Braddock; three daughters, Mrs. Emma Louis of Knoxville, Mrs. Laura O'Donovan of North Braddock, and Mrs. Blanche O'Donnell of Munhall; 33 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

------
NOTES: Mark B. McAdams is listed as Jr. here. This is incorrect. Mark
and William were the sons of William McAdams and Margaret Porter which
makes William, not Mark, the Jr. Mrs. McAdams' in-laws were George
McAdams, born in Ireland about 1800, and Elizabeth Faith, born about in
Pennsylvania about 1875. Elizabeth was the daughter of Revolutionary
War veteran Abraham Faith (pension #9982).
