OAKDALE MAN KILLED BY HIT-RUN IN MICH. SERVED FOUR YEARS IN ARMY IN WW II; BODY BROUGHT TO OAKDALE Robert VANSICKLE, 30, son of the late A. O. VANSICKLE and Mrs. Lou VANSICKLE, formerly of Oakdale, was instantly killed early Saturday morning, February 23, near Brighton, Mich., by a hit-run driver. VANSICKLE, who left Oakdale about a year ago to make his home in Detroit, was employed as a truck driver by the Brada Cartage Truck Co. Officials of the company said his truck had broken down and another employee, Clifford CHARLTON, had been sent to tow the truck to the garage. Police surmised the two were inspecting their towing connection when the hit-run car bore down on them. VANSICKLE was crushed against the side of his truck by the careening auto. CHARLTON was taken to a hospital, suffering with leg injuries. Police arrested the suspected driver, Anthony SACK., Jr., of Brighton, a short time after in a restaurant eight miles east of Brighton. He is being held at the Levingstone county jail Mr. VANSICKLE was born September 30, 1921, in Oakdale where he resided until going to Detroit a year ago. He and Ireen SKOP of Oakdale were married, May, 26, 1944. He served four years in the army in World War II, three years of which were spent overseas. Surviving besides his wife are a daughter, Patricia, 6; four sisters, Mrs. Elmer WALK, Oakdale; Mrs. John SMITH, Detroit; Mrs. J. K. ILIK, Washington, and Mrs. Rudy ILIK, Monterey Park, Calif.; a brother, Charles VANSICKLE, Detroit, and his mother, Mrs. A. O. VANSICKLE, Detroit. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in the Thomas funeral home, Oakdale, in charge of the Rev. W. V. Ritchie. Military services were in charge of Oakdale Post 171, American Legion.
