Mr.  Ulyssis James Stump, employed on the G.T.R.R., met with a
sudden death last Friday afternoon at 2:10, while switching at
the Grand Trunk crossing.  One part of the train must have
struck his head, for when found, as he was a short time after
the accident by a traveling man, his head and right arm were
badly injured and life was extinct.  Three minutes after he
was missed, the train was back after him.  He was carried by
train to the Grand Trunk depot and was taken from there on a
stretcher to Krueger's undertaking establishment.

From the undertakers his body was removed in a handsome casket
to the home of Mr. R. W. Butterfield, 590 Greenwood Avenue,
where the deceased had roomed since 1893.  The sorrow of the
family over his untimely death was intense, for he was a man
of such winning personality that to know him was to be his
friend.  Thursday evening he had taken 6 o'clock dinner with
them, and then left for his run to Elsdon, and to have his
return as it was, was indeed a sad blow.

The funeral was held at the Butterfield Home Sunday afternoon
at 5 o'clock, Rev. J. F. Clancy officiating.  His text was
from the fourteenth chapter of St. John and his remarks were
full of food for reflection upon the uncertainty of life, and
the need of constant preparation.  The songs were sung by Mr.
John P. Eames, Miss Ida Burno and Miss Ada Burke.  There were
"Nearer My God to Thee," and "Safe in the Arms of Jesus."  A
beautiful bouquet of roses tied with white satin ribbon lay on
the bier of the deceased.

At 7:15 the pall-bearers, Messrs. Isaac Holland, W. C. Bruce,
M. F. McClelland, F. C. Babcock, Dave H. White and James
McMahon, bore his remains to the C. R., I. & P. R. R., where
he was taken to Englewood, and there the remains were
transferred to the Fort Wayne railroad, to his home in
Alleghany, Pennsylvana.

Mr. Stump was 38 years old and was unmarried.  He worked
several times on the C. R. I. & P. railroad, serving as
conductor.  His father lives in Alleghany City , and five
brothers and one sister reside in Pennsylvania, and all will
mourn his untimely death.

Note:  Ulyssis James Stump lived in Allegheny County not
Allegheny City and is buried in Prospect Cemetery in
Brackenridge, PA.  He was the son of George W. Stump.
