Manor of Caxton in the County of Cambridge At a General Court Baron or Customary Court of The Reverend James Carpenter Gape Clerk Lord of the said Manor held in and for the said Manor on Friday the Twentieth day of December one thousand eight hundred and twenty two at the House of Edward Holder known by the sign of the George Inn in Caxton aforesaid Before George Edwards Gentleman the Deputy Steward of John Samuel Story Gentleman Chief Steward of the said Manor Also at this Court the Homage present that James Elsom late a Customary or Copyhold Tenant of the Manor died since the Court seized of All that Cottage or Tenement standing in Caxton aforesaid within the said Manor next a Barn and Garden belonging to the Lord of the said Manor north and south with the rights and appurtenances thereto belonging formerly the Estate of Henry Harding and Jane His wife and late in the occupation of the said James Elsom since of Sarah Elsom his widow and now of Edward Figgess to which the said James Elsom was admitted Tenant by the name of James Elsom at a Court held for this Manor on the Twentieth day of June one thousand seven hundred and ninety one on the Surrender of Samuel Caulson And the said Homage further present that William Elsom of Twisters Alley Bunhill Row Saint Lukes London Labourer is the nephew Heir at Law and Customary Heir of the said James Elsom Now to this Court comes the said William Elsom in person and humbly prays of the Lord of the said Manor to be admitted Tenant to the above mentioned Cottage or Tenement and premises according to the custom of this Manor to whom the Lord by his said Steward grants
and delivers seizin thereof by the Rod To
have and to hold the said Cottage or Tenement and premises with the appurtenances unto the said William Elsom his heirs and assigns for ever of the Lord of this Manor by Copy of Court Roll by the Rod at the Will of the said Lord according to the custom of the said Manor at the usual yearly rent of one shilling Fealty suit of Court and all other services and customs therefore due and of right accustomed and he is admitted Tenant thereof in manner and form aforesaid and he gives to the Lord for a Fine for such his Admission as in the margin (Fine £16.16.0) and his Fealty is certified Examined J S Story Steward of the said Manor |
