12. Elder James Nock (Sylvanus , Thomas ) was born about 1686 in Dover, Strafford County, New Hampshire. He died on 1 May 1724.

James, known as Elder Nock, was the ruling Elder of the church at Oyster River, now Durham, NH, of which Reverend Hugh Adams was pastor. His tragic death is thus stated by Rev. Mr. Adams in his diary: "On Friday, May 1, 1724, our worthy and desirable Elder, James Nock, was most surprisingly shot (from his horse) dead, and scalped by three Indian enemies. Oh that Christ Emanuel may speedily avenge his blood upon them!"

Text of Will of Jonathan Nock:
In the Name of God Amen. The Nineteenth Day of May in the 31st Year of ye Reign of King George ye Second Anno Domini 1758. I Jonathan Nock of Berwick in ye County of York, Joyner, being bound on an Expedition against Canada, and not knowing whether ever I shall return, Do make &ordain this to be my last Will & Testament, In which I commend my Body to the Dust for a Christian Burial; and my Soul to God who gave hoping for the Mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to eternal Life thro him; And as to the Worldly Estate I have or may hereafter belong to me I give & dispose of the Same in the following manner, vizt.
Impr: I give & bequeath all my Tools of all Sorts to Thomas Nock Son of my Brother Joshua Nock.
Item. I give to my Sister Sarah Nock my Chest with a Double Dantzick Lock.
Item. I give to my Sister Temperance Nock my other chest, and thirteen Shillings and four pence lawful Money to be paid her by my Executor.
Item. I give to my Sister Olive Hassam Six Shillings lawful Money to be paid by my Executor.
Item. I give to my hond Father Zechariah Nock all my Wages that Shall be coming to me as a Soldier in the said Expedition.
In the last place I give to my Brother Benjamin Nock his heirs & Assigns forever all my other Estate real & personal which I now have or ought to have or hereafter may be coming to me in any way whatsoever. And I do hereby make appoint & ordain my sd Brother Benjamin Nock to be Sole Executor to this my last Will and Testament. In Witness whereof I have hereunto Set my Hand & Seal the Day & year first above mentioned.
