My father was James Nolan, grandfather Richard Nolan and Great Grandfather
James Nolan who married Anna Mary Kelley from Nenagh. James Nolan married
in Ohio after arriving from Ireland and there my Grandfather was born.
My Grandmother Mary Tiernan married my Grandfather Richard Nolan. My Aunt
Anna Nolan, daughter of Richard and Mary was born in Bethany, Illinois
in 1881 and shortly after Richard, Mary and daughter Anna moved to Plymouth
County Iowa where my father James Nolan was born in 1883. Richard,died
in 1938, Mary died in 1946, Anna died in 1931 and James died
in 1959. All of them are buried in St Joseph's Cemetery in LeMars,

When I saw that you have Morrisey's in your family and Nolan's I thought
that we could possibly be related. My Grandfather, Jeremiah Flannery,
came to New York in April of 1910, to stay with his Uncle and cousin, whose
last name was Nolan, his mother's maiden name. She was Margaret Nolan
married
to William Flannery. One of their daughters, Dilly (her real name escapes me right now) married a Morrisey and they had a large family, most of them still living around Nenagh, Tipperary. |

As children and young adults, all we (me, my sisters and my cousins)
ever heard was that our grandfather, William, came over from County Cork.
However true this may be, I have
become convinced that his parents and siblings were born and lived in County Tipperary. They may have moved to Cork later and lived there for a short time before coming over. I have found marriage records for what appear to be my grandfather's parents in Tipperary, as well as the births of several children. |

My grandfather, Patrick Nolan was born near Nenagh. He
emigrated to U.S.A. and settled in NYC where he married Brigid O'Brien who also came from Nenagh. My father, Daniel is the oldest son. Patrick's father was also named Daniel. We are trying to find descedents of Daniel, perhaps children of a brother or sister he may have had. Or, children/grands of Patricks brothers/sisters if he had any we don't know about. We have found the following about my grandfather, Patrick Nolan: Born on Aug 15, 1877 (as shown on the church records of the Silverminis parish, Diocese of Killalue) . Son of Daniel Nolan and Anne Quinlisk . Married to Bridget O'Brien in NYC at St. Jeromes RC Church on April 23, 1904, Bronx NY. Condron, they lived in Shamokin, Penna. where they had the following children:
Edward Paul
(my grandfather), Dennis, John, Martin, Patrick, William, and Margret. They later moved to Philipsburg, Penna. My great-grandfather, John Nolan, was born in Dublin, Ireland in 1851. His parents were Jacob Nolan and Margaret Flanagan. John came to the U.S. 1865 and married Annie Condrun, who was born in Philipsburg, Pa. John died in 1900, Annie died in 1908. |

I can trace my Daniel (believed to have been born abt 1836
in Ireland down to present generation I can also give a fair account of
his sister Catherine but cannot account for any other siblings.

Patrick Francis Nolan, a farmer, was born in County Mayo, Ireland
in 1821 and was the eldest son of William and Bridget Nolan. When 22 years old, he left Ireland and came to America and located in New York in 1843. Remained there and in PA and VT fifteen years, working at the trade of founder and moulder, and in 1859 came west to Iowa and located in Stapleton Township, Chickasaw County, IA where he lived until 1882, when he moved to Fredericksburg. He married in 1851, to Elizabeth Armstrong, a native of Ireland, and had nine children: William, Catherine, James, Francis (my great grandfather), Alice, Thomas, Stephan, Maria and Peter. He was school director, road supervisor and town treasurer. The family were members of the Roman Catholic Church. |

Mary Agnes NOLAN was the first of ten children of: Presley NOLAN, b. 1866 and d. 1955 and Emma FEGAN (unknown). Presley was one of at least 13 children of: Lawrence NOWLEN, b. 1808 in Ireland and died 1872 (possibly IN area)
and Elizabeth (Betsy) PATTERSON (unknown date & place).

At the age of 13, she traveled either with her brothers or to join them in Canada. She married the son of a sea captain, William Williams. my NOLANs come from Roscommon, and I think it might be Kilteevan Parish (Civil), but I am still trying to prove the link because of a huge gap in ages between my grandfather's date of birth and two young girls born at least 9 to 12 years later. The lack of records in all of Ireland is a huge handicap. I found the Baptisms of the two girls, but I can find nothing on my GGF. My only knowledge of his birthdate is from information he gave to the census enumerators in the US. He was born in 1829...the girls in 1838 and 1841. If there were children in between, there is no record of them anywhere |

Bridget Nolan was my Great Grandmother, She lived her married life
in
Syracuse N.Y. also died there and is buried at St. Agnes Cem. I have been there. She was married to John Corcoran, who I have been looking all over Tipperary for. I have her death cert. She died March 4, 1910. I have written a book on that side of my family and even talked to one of her grandchildren who was in her 90's. They had anumber of children, Johanna-1873,Delia Agnes-1876, Nellie-1881, Annie Beatrice-1885, Daniel-1886, Margaret-1889, John/Jack-1876, James T.-1877( who was my grandfather), Katherine 1874, and two others who died young. |

Julia M. (Mary?) Nolan was born August 09, 1841 in Tullow, County Carlow. I believe she had a brother named Matthew born about 1844. Unknown when they came to the states,but believed to have first been in either NYor NJ before settling in New Orleans, LA. Mathew had 4 children, 1 (Matthew) stayed in New Orleans, one (Mary) died young, and of the other two (John Peter and Julia) are believed to have gone to OH and AL (As her obit lists copies made to these states and I have been unable to find them!) Matthew married a Mary "Unknown" and Julia married my gg-grandfather, Michael Spellman. |

I know that John Nolan, born in Ireland and his wife Ellen, also born in Ireland, were in Pennsylvania on Jan. 6, 1870. He would have been my Grandfather's grandfather. John had James by another wife it seems and he and Ellen had Martin and Thomas. James was my great-grandfather and he died in Indiana in 1920. John was born in 1822 and Ellen in 1830. We have information that a John Nolan was born in County Tipperary
in 1815, somewhere. He married a Mary Gelston and had 3 children. John
was buried by his wife Mary at Ballinahinch (Ballyahinch) cemetery. He
died December 28, 1879 at age 64.
His three children were named Patrick Nolan (who died in 1888 at 28 years of age) and Maria Nolan (the one we are related to), and a third daughter for whom we cannot find information so far, other than we believe that another branch of the family tree asserts there is this 3rd child. Maria Nolan married Edward Ryan on February 29, 1879 in Newport, Nenagh, Co. Tipperary. They had 8 children. Interestingly, the first son was named John and went by Jack (that is who we are descended from). John may have been named after Maria's father John Nolan. The second son was named Edward, after his father Edward Ryan. They also had a Nora, Mary and Annie, which may also hearken back to Nolan family names. Oh yes, Maria Nolan lived in the Killoscully region south of Nenagh and the Silvermines in northwest Tipperary, which is where the Ryan's had been for generations. Apparently, someone there knows where a particular homestead cottage ruin is located. And one other link (or stretch) is that the 3rd child of John and Mary Nolan, who married someone with the last name Benton, named the first son John after John Nolan, and the only daughter was named Nora. The descendents of this Nora are alive and in contact with my family and another branch of the family in Illinois. |

My grandfather, Joseph Nolan, was from Troy, NY. He left home at a young age to move to Rochester, NY, and only kept contact with two siblings. His father was Andrew Nolan and his mother was Mary Krause Nolan. One of his siblings who also moved to Rochester was James. There was one sister named Agnes who married a "Burke", apparently the Postmaster for either Troy or Cohoes at one time. He died in a drowning accident. JAMES NOWLAND was born in County Carlow, Ireland.
He married MARY SHORTALL September 29, 1793 in Ballon Parish Church. Mary Shortall was previously married to a John Glory in the same parish on November 1, 1784. Witnesses at this earlier marriage were Maurice Dawson and James Wall. Besides Peter and Edward, other possible children from the union of James Nowland and Mary Shortall are Elizabeth Nowland born in October 1792 and John Nowland born December 28, 1794 both in the parish of Ballon. Brothers Peter (b. 1796) and Edward Nowland (b. 1798), came from Cork, around 1820. The two went to New Brunswick aboard a lumber ship. I have recently found a reference http://www.ballingarry.net/Slieveardagh%20history/Parish-Schools-1824.html to a James Nowlan who was a teacher in Thurles (Tipperary) in 1824 and was no longer a teacher in the area by 1851. From the list of Thurles estate tenants for 1819 http://homepage.tinet.ie/~jjcondon/estate_tenants_1819.htm , he appears to have obtained leases for a meadow in the "Castle Meadows" area of Thurles in 1796 (for 3 lives), for a thatched house and small garden on Pudding lane in 1807 (for life of lessee or 21 years) and for a tillage garden in 1817 (for 3 lives). |

I have a Nolan line that I think came from Co.Wexford. My great grandfather,
Michael Nolan, came to America, through New York, in 1853. His brother
James came sometime around there also.
I know there was a large family and I have heard that their parents names were: Nicholas Nolan and Bridget O'Neill (O'Neal?). I think Michael was born between 1815-1819. I find Michael in the 1870 census farming in Wisconsin. In the 1880 census they are still in Grant County, Wisconsin. He goes to California, by way of Montana, I think, and marries my grandmother in 1898. In the 1900 census they are in Los Angeles. There are Nolans buried in the Calvary cemetery in Los Angeles. |

4 children (one I think was Michael).
His wife died and he was matched by the church with Rosanne REILY/O'REILY, who was a widow also with 4 children. They then had 2 more born c1896 - Kathleen and Annie. |

My 2nd great grandmother emigrated to America between 1848 and 1852. My family history states that she was from Tipperary and met her husband, John Kelley, while on board ship to America. John was from Killarney. My John and Ellen settled in Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania. John became a miner and they had a rather large family. |
| I don't know who my Mary NOLAN's parents were. All I know about her
was that she married James KEVIN on 24 June 1837, Parish of Killenaule,
Tipperary. Mary and James had eight children that I know of, born between
1838 and 1860. Their daughter Mary who was born in 1851 in Lurgoe was my
GG grandmother. She married in Australia in 1873.
The only other information I have about my NOLAN family comes from some memorial cards I have which relates to some nieces of my GG grandmother. The first card is for a Bridget NOLAN who died 7 Oct 1948 in New York. The second card is for Sister Anastasia de St Gerard who died on 10 Jan 1938, also in NY. Sister Anastasia was a NOLAN but I don't know what her first name was before she became a nun. I believe she was quite elderly when she died. The third is an obit notice for a Sister Clarella who died aged 91 years in a monastery in Bordentown/Trenton (which I believe is in the US somewhere but could be in Scotland). Sister Clarella's name was Mary NOLAN. She took her vows in 1912 after entering the St Clare's Monastery in 1910, not long after leaving Ireland. |

My Great-Grandmother was Margaret Nolan b 1880 (not sure where as yet)
married to a Callaghan. Margaret died 13th April 1960 aged 80 and is buried
in The Mill Cemetery at Urlingford.
They lived around the area of Fennor which is in the parish of Gortnahoe. They also had houses in Urlingford and Rathbeg. |

Daniel Patrick Nolan. He was b. 1876 in Co. Dublin and is shown on
the 1911 Dublin census as a wooden case maker, with his wife, my great
grandmother, Annie McDermott. She was b. 1879 in Dublin City. We believe
there was a brother, Patrick Nolan, who was a Catholic brother and there
may be a relation to Michael Nolan, living the next house down on Liberty
Lane in the 1911 census.
They had 4 children: Kathleen Ann 1904 Anne Theresa 1906 Margaret Josephine 1908 Daniel Patrick 1910. Daniel Sr. died suddenly, before the end of 1913. (Possible buggy accident) The children stayed in Ireland and Annie traveled on Christmas Eve 1913 from Liverpool to Argentina and in September of 1914, continued her journey to NY. My great-grandfather, Thomas Corry, was also on both legs of the trip and lived only a block away in Dublin. They did not marry until they reached NY. They had 2 daughters: Rose 1916 Eileen, 1919. (my grandma) Kathleen, Anne and Margaret immigrated to NY in 1924 and Daniel came
later, though we have no record for him. Margaret died young of TB, but
the other 3 siblings eventually settled in California. Dan married and
had 1 daughter, Dana.

I am trying to find descendants of a James Nolan, born Nov 29th, 1872
in Clonegal, Co. Wexford, on the border with Co. Carlow, Ireland.
He emigrated in the late 1800s/1900s - we're not sure when. He was my father's uncle. My father will be 80 in the new year, and is really, really, anxious to find out what happened to James. Last known address is Lafeyette St, Detroit, and we think he served in the Detroit Fire dept. He may also have served in the Spanish/American war. He was married and had two daughters. His brothers in Ireland were Mogue/Mosey, Michael/Mick, Andy, and Edmond/Redmond, and he had two sisters, Eliza and Kate. His parents names were Patrick and Marie Nolan (nee Murphy) We understand that when he emigrated to America, James went to live with two of his own uncles who had emigrated earlier from Clonegal, possibly 1860-70. Their names were Redmond or Edmond, and Andrew/Andy Nolan. Family folklore says that they were lumberjacks in Michigan, but we have absolutely no information on these gentlemen. |
