Edna Day service set for Thursday

Mrs. Clarence J. (Edna) Day, 69, 1616 S. Delaware, died Monday at a Mason City nursing home. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Major Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Roy Gray, pastor of the Calvary Alliance Church, officiating.
Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Charles City.
Pallbearers will be Carroll Day, Darrell Day, Gregory Day, Edward Beard, Rick McClain, and Clarence Billick.
Organist will be Mrs. Henry Arends, and a solo will be sung by McClain.
Friends may call at the chapel from 3 p.m. Wednesday until time of the service.
She is survived by her husband, Clarence Day.
She was born Oct. 8, 1900, in Charles City, the daughter of Edward and Laura (Newman) Dodd.
She was married Aug. 9, 1916, at Charles City. She and her husband moved to Mason City in 1922, where they resided since.
She is survived also by two daughters and two sons. They are Mrs. (Evelyn) Beard, Moline, ILL.; Mrs. Elmer (Carline) Billick, Mason City; Carroll C. Day, Ventura; and Harley G. Day, Denver, Colo.
One brother, Kenneth Dodd, Rochester, N.Y., and a sister, Mrs. Wayne (Helen) Watkins, Kansas City, Kan., survive.
She is survived also by 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Day was a member of the Navy Mothers Club.

Carroll Day, Sr.

MASON CITY - Carroll Day Sr., 72, of Barefoot Bay, Fla., formerly of Mason City, Iowa, died June 12,
1994 in a Barefoot Bay, hospital after a prolonged illness.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, with the Rev. David Shogren of the Wesley united Methodist Church officiating. There will be graveside military honors by the V.F.W. Post 733. Carroll Day was born Aug. 9, 1921 in Charles City, the son of Clarence and Edna (Dodd) Day. Moving to Mason City as a small child, he attended Mason City schools, graduating in 1939.
Mr. Day served with the United States Army during the World War II, returning to Mason City, where he
managed several service stations here.
After leaving Mason City, he moved to Ventura, then to Fort Dodge where for several years he sold insurance. He moved to Barefoot Bay, Fla. Nine years ago.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Sebastian, Fla., and the American Legion.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Lou of Barefoot Bay, Fla.; four sons, Carroll Day Jr. of Northwood, Darroll Day and his wife, Paula, of Lake City, Minn., Greg Day and his wife, Deb, of Cresco, and Eddie Day of Ringgold, Ga.; two daughters, Susan Bloschl and husband, Larry, of Gilbert, Wis. And Debbie Steinfield, of Appleton, Wis; two step-sons, Scott Kearns of Sacramento, Calif., and Greg Kearns of Norfolk, Neb.; one brother, Harley Day of Oceanside, Calif.; two sisters, Evelyn Bears and her husband, Harry of Moline, Ill., and Carline Billick and husband, Elmer, of Mason City; 13 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Paul Day; and one sister, Clara Bell Day.

MOLINE, ILL. -- Major Harry L. Beard, 81, of Moline, formerly of Nora Springs, Iowa, died Thursday (May 22, 1997) in Illinois Hospital, Silvis.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the National Cemetery on the Rock Island Arsenal, Moline, with military honor by American Legion Post #246.
Trimble Funeral Home Moline, is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be given to the Iowa-Illinois Treasure Hunter Club in his memory.
Mr. Beard was born Dec. 5, 1915, in Nora Springs, Iowa, the son of Walter and Bessie Main Beard.
He married Evelyn Day on April 12, 1936, in Mason City, Iowa.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps During World War II, and then served in the United Sttes Air Force Reserves, retiring a major in 1975.
Following the war, he worked as a flying instructor for four years and then served as an Air Traffic Controller for the Federal Aviation Administration for 18 years. He was Air Traffic Controller at the Quad City Airport from when they opened the control tower in 1954 until his retirement in 1969. Following his retirement, he owned Electronic Recovery, selling metal detectors out of his home.
He was a member of the Iowa Illinois Treasure Hunters Club, American Legion Post #246? Moline; Silent Wings Glider Pilot Association, Isaak Walton League; Giant Goose Conservation Club and Moline Conservation Club. He enjoyed photography.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; a son and daughter-in-law, Ed and Jean Beard of Coal Valley; eight grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and J. C. Merryman of Waterloo, Iowa; brother, Foster Beard, of Nora Springs, Iowa; and a sister-in-law, Mary Beard, of Floyd, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Waltressa Krick; and brother, Robert Beard.
