Alfred Pugh, aged forty-eight, passed away at four o'clock Tuesday afternoon at his home on North Bond street in the Columbian addition after a serious sickness of ten days. He had been in poor health since last February at which time he contracted a severe cold resulting in rheumatism in a severe form. He was able to be around until a week ago Sunday, at which time he was suddenly seized with kidney and heart trouble and heart disease was the direct cause of his death.

Alfred Pugh was a son of Mr. And Mrs. George Pugh and was born at Kokomo, Indiana on August 28, 1856. He was married on May 21, 1882 to Miss Etta [note: Henrietta] Norris, and they lived in Nevada. [note: Vernon County] Missouri until July 1890, when they moved to this city to reside, since which time he has been employed with his brother-in-law, J. M. Buck, in the handle industry. Two children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Pugh, one of whom is dead. The wife and one son, Shirley, are left to mourn the death of a kind and loving husband and father. Two brothers and one sister also survive the deceased. They are Mrs. J. M. Buck of this city, John Pugh of Nebraska City [note: Otoe County, NB], and Albert Pugh, of Moscow, [note: Woodward County] Oklahoma. 3. CAROLINE PUGH (GEORGE) was born May 5, 1858 most likely in Howard County, IN, and died January 9, 1939 in Angola, Steuben County, Indiana. She married (1) JOHN M. (MARTIN?) BUCK September 13, 1880 in Delaware County, Indiana (probably Muncie) son of HENRY BUCK and JEMIMA CHAMNESS. He was born June 2, 1853 in Near Alexandria, Monroe Township, Madison County, Indiana, and died May 9, 1909 in Bluffton, Indiana. Notes for CAROLINE PUGH:
Buck Family Tradition (frequently very wrong)
Father went off to fight in Civil War in about 1864/5 (when Caroline 6)
Caroline, Mother & 3 small brothers lived on farm near Alexandria, IN
Caroline, brothers and possibly father moved in with grandparents following mother's death from typhoid
Father remarried about 1867-70 and children move back in with father and new wife
Family moved to a farm in Missouri in about 1869/71 (when Caroline about 12).
Caroline's father moved on to Oregon or Washington and Caroline returned to Indiana settling in Muncie in Delaware County about 15 miles east of her childhood home to learn the dressmaking trade.
The dress shop in which Caroline apprenticed catered to Muncie's elite. She found the work to be most enjoyable and continued to work there until in about 1880 she met and married John M. Buck.
John M. Buck is believed to have been originally from the Alexandria, Indiana area.
John & Caroline moved to Somerset, Pulkaski County, in southern Kentucky where John and a friend bought a sawmill. Unfortunately, John's partner had a number of undisclosed debts and soon his creditors foreclosed on the sawmill. In February 1881, in the cold of winter, John, Caroline and two-week-old baby Carl were forced to return to their old hometown (Muncie or Alexandria ?) with all of 10 cents in their pockets.
John, undaunted, soon acquired a shoe store in Redkey, Jay County, Indiana.
Clyde and Alline were born in Redkey, Indiana.
