Joseph and Mary Thompson
Joseph Thompson  1784 - 1852
    From Kentucky, a strong abolitionist, member of Bruch Creek Reformed Presbyterian Church, an Elder, died July 2, 1852 at the age of 68.  Joseph and others stood at their post until death called them home.  
Joseph lost his battle with Cholera durning the great pestilence at Grand Cote Prairie, Randolph County, IL.  His cousin Samuel Milligan buried Joseph then died the next day. An old dated sandstone marks their graves.    
 
John Thompson (father of Joseph) was believed to have lived at or near Lexington, KY.  Married a Miss Moore (mother of Joseph), a Scotch lady, who owned much land where the city of Paris, France now is.  Any other children are unknown at this time.  
   
Mary Milligan 1790 - 1865
  From New York she went to PA then to Ohio where she married Joseph.  Dying at the end of the Civil War, she was the second person buried in the Olathe City Cemetery.  
 
1.  John M Thompson abt 1810 - abt 1864, was a cooper by trade, died of disease the day before the battle of Shiloh, his coffin was made from the floor boards of the Shiloh Church.  John married Sarah Woods (b abt 1842)  His children Andrew and Mattie later made their homes in Olathe, Kansas.

2.  Andrew Milligan Thompson 1821-1899,  was born in Adams county, OH and moved to Randolph county, Il at the age of twenty one, remaining until 1862, when he moved to Kansas.  Andrew was a Elder of the Reformed Presbyterian Church.

3.  Joseph McNeil Thompson  born abt 1813, Adams Co, OH, moved to  Coulterville, Randolph Co, IL and married Maria Elizabeth Hissong
(1840-1934).  Joseph was a merchant, an abolitionist and was part of the 'Underground Railroad' prior to the Civil War.  He was a procurement officer for the Union army, gained the nickname of 'Snake Thompson' for putting rattlesnakes in the liquor barrels for an extra tang. Lived in Olathe, Ks.  Died at his sons home (Calvin) in Moran, TX abt 1900.

3.  James S Thompson 1823-1903, born in Adams county, OH, James married Margaret Boyd, daughter of William Boyd of Sparta, IL.  They had two children, one died young and the other, a son, was supposed to have been killed by the Indians around Cheyenne, WY.  James Married Margaret Sterrett and they had eleven children.  James was an Elder of the Reformed Presbyterian church.  He was a merchant in IL, later a farmer in Olathe, KS.  James and Margaret are buried in the Union Cemetery, Monticello Twp, KS.

4.  Robert W Thompson, born about 1827 in Adams county, OH, he was a farmer,  moved to Coulterville, Randolph county IL., married June Hayes.  It is said that he died durning the Cholera epidemic of 1852.
 
5.  William Thompson, born about 1828, Adams county, OH, married Mary Ann Woods. Moved to Sparta, Randolph county, IL, was an Engineer. William went to War and was never heard from again, presumably killed in battle.  The children and widow lived about Coffeyville, KS.

6.  Mary J Thompson 1829-1912, born in Adams county, OH.  Married James Delano (1829-1866).  At the age of 35 she married William Hancock, age 62, in Johnson Co, KS.  Mary is buried in Pleasant Valley Cemetery.

7.  David S Thompson, born about 1838, Adams county, OH, moved to Randolph county IL and lived with his brother Joseph. In Kansas, David
married Mary Ann Woods, they were members of the Reformed Presbyterian Church of Olathe, KS.  The family moved to Stockton, CA. about 1877.   A son was accidentally killed while out hunting, his death
weighted heavy on David.  A letter from his daughter said David died,    1914 in Stockton, CA
