John Obreiter

John Obreiter

John Obreiter was born in May of 1842 in Baden, Germany, and died August 12, 1926 in Lancaster, PA.

He was a Sergeant in Company K of the 77th Pennsylvania Infantry, which fought in the western campaign. He was captured at Chickamauga, and sent to various prisons, including Danville and Andersonville, both of which he escaped from, though he was later recaptured.

John wrote the regimental history, which can be found at the Library of Congress, the Lancaster Historical Society, and a few specialty bookshops.

On March 25, 1866, John married Elizabeth Isenberger (also spelled Eisenberger). Lizzie was the daughter of Samuel and Sarah Isenberger, and was born in June of 1846 in Pennsylvania. She died on February 15, 1932 in Lancaster, PA

The two had one son, Charles Herbert Obreiter, who was born on September 22, 1867. He died on April 26, 1949 in Lancaster after a year long hospital stay. He was a lawyer, and never married.

The three are buried in a plot in Greenwood Cemetery in Lancaster, PA.
