Tuckers of Antigua

TUCKERS OF ANTIGUA

This page includes information about the descendents of Samuel Thomas Tucker.

Samuel Thomas Tucker [Bermuda > Antigua]

Samuel Thomas Tucker was born in Bermuda in 1797. His parents were Samuel Tucker and Ann (née Fitt).

He married Ruth Seon Outerbridge on 24th September 1829. She was born in Bermuda on 3rd January 1797. It is not recorded when they moved to Antigua. Ruth died on 18th March 1854 in Antigua and Samuel died nearly a year later at his home in Newgate Street, Antigua on 11th February 1855.

They had two daughters - Sarah Evelina and Burchall. Sarah was born in Antigua in 1832 and married William Henry Wilkin from Montserrat in 1851. Her sister married Adam Vorch and then (we think) John Richard Wilkin of Montserrat.

Thomas Fitt Tucker [Bermuda > Antigua]

Thomas was Samuel's younger brother. He was born about 1805. He also lived in Antigua and it is recorded that in 1835 he received compensation for one slave.

Estates and plantations

It is understood that Samuel was a planter but it is not known whether he owned, rented or managed any estates.

Slave compensation

In October 1835,  Francis G Tucker and Thomas Fitt Tucker were compensated £13 0s 2d for one slave each.

Other Tuckers on Antigua

In St.John's churchyard there is the following memorial stone which relates to Tuckers from Virginia. It is not known whether these families were related to the same Tucker line in Bermuda. [source 1]
