Philip J. Walsh

After graduation, I went to Spence at, Moultrie, GA for primary pilot training. I met Mary McCorvey there ,she worked on the base. I changed her last name to Walsh the day after Christmas 1960. I was on Christmas leave from Basic Pilot training at Laredo, Texas. We moved there and a couple months later they had to throw away a T33 after I used it, and I told them I didn't want to be a pilot anymore.

They put me back in the Air Defense business and I went to New York Air Defense Sector at McGuire AFB, NJ. After that I spent a year as adviser to the Thai AF Air Defense. Then to Tyndall AFB as a Weapons Controller Instructor. Then another tour in Thailand with JUSMAG again advising Thai Air Defense (great duty). Then I served as Ops Officer at a couple BUIC Radar sites in Washington State. Then I had another tough tour in the 326 Air Division on Oahu, Hawaii.

I Made Major there and came back to Moody AFB, GA for 30 days to retire August 31 1974. I would have stayed for 30 if they had let me, but I missed the Air Defense business for about 30 seconds.

Since retirement I have been a T.V. Technician, a Machinist, a Manufacturing Plant superintendent.

Now I am a Permanent Deacon in the Catholic Church and working harder than ever.
