These are articles from The Society and Fashions section of The Richmond Times-Dispatch, Sunday, September 15, 1918. This came to so many pages that I have divided them into two separate pages. This is the first page.

SOCIETY

One of the most interesting features of each social season in Richmond is the annual program at the Women’s Club. The club has for its home the old HAXALL house, and with the handsome new auditorium which was added year before last, has been the scene of some brilliant gatherings of the year. It numbers among its members most of the gifted and literary women of the city, and its officers and board of managers have included the best-known women of Richmond. Brilliant and gifted speakers have lectured there and the club had the honor of entertaining as a lecturer some years ago President Wilson, who was at that time head of the Princeton University.

Last spring closed an unusually good program for the club. Prominent lecturers and artists from all over the country were heard there, and members have been looking forward with enthusiasm to the coming season. Like all other similar organizations, the Women’s Club is being run on a war basis. Its members are engaged in all sorts and kinds of war work. One committee, under Miss Frances Scott has been doing splendid work in one of the wards at the Camp Lee hospital right straight through the summer. The board has also put the ban on refreshments until after the war and from now on "feat of reason and flow of soul" will be the order of the day.

Mrs. James SCOTT, chairman of the lecture committee, has arranged a number of lectures for the coming year. Some of these speakers will be John Kendrick BANGS, Arthur Stanley RIGGS, Mrs. Maria ROHLING, Professor S. H. CLARKE, of the University of Chicago; Miss Amy LOWELL, the free-verse poetess, and President George E. VINCENT, of the Rockefeller Foundation. The prospect is certainly a most pleasing one. John Kendrick BANGS will be the first in October, and his subject will be "Light and Shade From the Field of Valor."

Mr. RIGGS will give an illustrated lecture on Spain, and Mrs. ROHLING, who is a Russian woman, will tell of the part the Russian women have been playing in the revolution in that country. Dr. CLARKE will read and interpret a modern play, and Miss LOWELL will give a lecture-recital of her own poems. Dr. VINCENT will lecture on some o the work of the Rockefeller Foundation.

(There is more, but no more mention of names.)
