     John ABNEY I, son of Paul ABNEY and (?) Unknown, was born circa 1739 in Albemarle County, Virginia. He was also known as Abner.2

John married first Isabella (?) circa 1754 in Virginia. He was referred to in court records on 23 July 1762 in Albemarle County, Virginia. Referred to in court records.2 He referred to in the following deed on 21 January 1764 in Amherst County, Virginia. Referred to in the following deed.2 He witness to an indenture on 8 October 1765 in Albemarle County, Virginia: : "Wm. Fielder and Elizabeth, his wife to Allexander McKinsy of Albemarle and Fredervill Parish for L33, 6 s., 8 p.... 50 a. in Albemarle and St. Anns Parish bound by Henry Terrell, James Warrin. /s/ Wm. Fielder. /w/ Wm. Garland, John Abney, Henry Hays, Joel Terrell, proved by the oath of Wm. Garland, John Abney and Henry Hays." It was recorded 10 Oct 1765.3

15 Jan 1773 - Robert Adams to John Harvey, land in Albemarle County adjacent Jn. Carr, B. Johnson, Eliz. Thompson, John Abner, Nicholas Lewis and the Rivanna River. This land was just across the county line from his father.4

John ABNEY I died before 1786 in Amherst County, Virginia. He predeceased his father and Paul assumed the duties of raising John's children.5
