Hubbard, Eliza Jane
KY-Madison, Knox or unknown county
1889?

I am looking for any information on my ggrandmother, Eliza Jane Hubbard Reynolds. She was born in Madison Co., KY in 1883 according to the death certificate filled out by her husband, RB. However, family history says that she was an orphan by the age of 6 or 7 possibly, and eventually ended up living with cousins for a time. Apparently, these cousins treated her well enough, but she was stolen by another set of cousins who were supposed to be taking her for a visit and kept her. They treated her as a servant, and she told my mom a story one time of cooking at an old stove while standing on an old box because she was too short to see over the stovetop. In looking for her, I have come to wonder if she didn't live for a time in an orphans' home, as she has been impossible to find, nor can I track down the cousins. I know that she married my ggrandfather in March of 1900, at the age of 17, and had at that time a child under a year old. Thanks for any help you can give me! Kristen

O'brien/and or McGovern
uncertain Providence, RI likely, Lawrence, Ma possible
1910???, take any info +/_ 5yrs

my maternal grandmother was an orphan, her name was Winifred Josephine O'Brien( McGovern), later married name, Cook, we are not certain whether the orphanage was in Mass. or R.I. and do not have a name for it. She was married in 1917, and stayed at the orphanage until adulthood. We also know she was born in Lawrence, Ma. 10/1/1897, Parents: Richard and Mary( we do not know Mary's last name). At some point in time, her two brothers were adopted by a couple from Canada, with the understanding that she not try to contact them (they were younger). Also, for some reason in later years she referred to herself as Winifred McGovern, it's thought that it had to do with the people who cared for her. She died in 1938, my mother was five and therefore knows very little about her mother. Please contact me with any information. Thank you.

Higgins
New York
1840

Looking for any information about the family of MARY JANE HIGGINS, born 1840 in Genesee County, New York. She traveled from New York to Michigan by age 10, and is found living with the MOSES PORTER family in Lapeer County, MI. in 1850 census. One adult woman of that family was blind, and it is possible Mary Jane was with them to care for this woman (Paramelia Porter). No information exists in the family as to Mary Jane's background, but it is believed that she was orphaned/put up for adoption/farmed out to the Porter family. Any information known about her would be gratefully received.

Nicholson
The Associated Charities????(not sure if this is an orphanage)Pitt.PA Alleghany
abt.1909

Trying to locate information on my Grandfather James Patterson Nicholson. He was b. 1900 in New Castle, PA. His parents were (we think) John George Nicholson and Annie Brown. Annie was born in England 1879. They were married in Scranton, PA. The story is that they were missionaries and were either killed or died of disease. I'd like some more info about Grandpa's parents and the family he stayed with eventually. We know the family that took him out of the orphanage was Mc/Machesney. James had two older brothers John Willie and Richard Morris.
