Nichols
St. Joseph's Home For The Friendles, Illinois or
Indiana
1921
I am looking for the 21 Nichols children who were left behind by
their parents when they moved to Wisconsin. Nettie Nichols has a
baptismal certificate from St. Joseph's Home for the Friendless. The
children were all born in Illinois or Indiana and so the home has to be
there. My Uncle Connie thinks he remembers the hom being near Chicago.
If anyone can tell me how to find this place, I would appreciate
it.

Wright
Leavenworth, Kansas
Looking for the children of William & Mary Wright. Mary
Wright died in 1916, leaving the children parentless. Don't know what
became of the father. Some of the children's names were: William Sr.,
who died in WW1, Ernest, Clarence, Jack (youngest who was scalded to
death as a young boy),John, Charles?, Mary Melvina and Julia.
Apparently, the Sisters of Charity in Leavenworth took the children in
and placed them. Can't find any record of any of them, except for the
ones who've died. Trying to find out where this family came from,
originally... what their address was when their mother died.... ANY info
would be welcome.
Thank you

Lynch
San
Francisco, California USA
1907+
I am trying to find any information that I can about my
Grandfather, Michael Patrick Lynch. His family lived in San Francisco,
California. His Mother's maiden name was O'Brian. He was with his family
during the 1906 earthquake, but shortly after that, he was put into an
orphanage. His family frequented Saint Mary's Catholic Church, and I
believe that he was baptised there. I am not sure of the orphanage name.
I would really appreciate any help from anyone who has researched
orphaned children in this area. Thank you.

Frances Burns
Somerville, Massachusetts
1920
I am not sure if this child was actually an orphan but my
great grandmother, Anna Blomquist Erickson listed as a
"daughter" a 9 year old girl named Frances Burns in her
residence in the 1920 Massachusetts Census.
The girl's parents are listed as being born in Ireland but my great
grandmother was born in Sweden. I have no clue as to the identity of this
girl. She has never been mentioned in any family records. I only
accidently found her when I found her living with my ancestors in
Massachusetts in the 1920 Census.
I would be interested to know if anyone else knows Frances Burns and her
circumstances. If she is alive today she would have to be near 90 years
old.
Any clues??

St.
Agatha Home for Children, Nanuet NY
1884 -
Present
I'm writing a book about the history of St. Agatha Home for all
the people, like me, that resided there (1965- 1968), and the families of
those who have passed on. I've collected a lot of information about the
Home and hundreds of photos, I'm happy to share. I've put together many
"old pals" and helped people find out about their families. I
hope to be a part of this site, and will help in any way I can with info
about St. Agatha, the Sisters of Charity, NY Foundling Hospital, and
Children's Aid Society (I have the census' for the latter two and will be
happy to do lookups).

Rolla, MO Pheleps County, Born in IN
unknown
I am looking for my dads nine brother's and/or sisters. I know
that my father was born in Indiana or Nebraska in May of 1946, he was
adopted by the Gerbers with one of his brothers in Rolla, MO. I am not
sure how many children were in the family I have heard a varied amount. I
am now an orphan myself so I do not have anyone to ask. I am desperatly
looking for where I came from. Please if you have any information or
think you might know that would be wonderful! I do not know why my father
was adopted out, I am trying to find all of that out. His name when
adopted was Richard Walterman Gerber. I don't know if his full name was
changed or just the last. He was about six or so when adopted.
Thank you for any help you can give.

New York
1898-1900
My grandfather was adopted into the Canisteo,NY area from an
orphanage that this area called Valhalla Orphanage. I can find no such
orphanage, I believe it has another name. I think the people of Canisteo
called it Valhalla Orphanage because it is either in or near Valhalla NY.
I would appreciate any help in locating the real name of this orphanage
and its location. Finding my grandfathers family is impossible without
this information. My grandfather told my mother that his mother died and
his father had a bad cough and was ill, and he put him and his brother
Willie in the orphanage. That is all the information he would give of
himself. He did not want to talk about it any further. My grandfather was
adopted by the Howe family and Willie was adopted by a Taft
family(location unknown). So any information about this orphanage would
be much appreciated.
Thank-you.
