I am looking for information on a Thomas Brown, born about 1815.
His father may have been John Brown. We find Thomas in Marshall Co. WV.
Pleasants, Wood And Jackson Co. WV. after 1835...We know that he married
Ruth Bills, but we cannot find any records on him prior to his marriage
to Ruth. Perhaps he was orphaned, or raised by some other family other
than the Browns.
Would appreciate any information 0n this person.

Cunningham
Vine Street Orphanage (Chattanooga Childrens Home) Chattanooga,
Tn. USA
unknown
I am looking for information on my grandfather, James Cunningham
who was placed in the Vine Street Orphanage in Chattanooga, Tn. Around
1885. He was adopted by John Mcmahan of Trenton, Georgia. Apparently, his
mother and sister died in a fire. It is not known what happend to his
father. I am told they were from Stevenson Alabama. He also had a
brother John who was younger and was adopted by a doctor in Rome, Ga. I
would appreciate any info regarding this. I can't seem to find anything
linking him to the orphanage, or to John Mcmahan other than what was told
to me by my mother. Thanks for any help.

Dollan (Dollyn, Dolin, Dolan,

Montreal, Quebec, Canada (?) - to-
Minnesota, USA
1900 to about 1916
I am searching for info from anyone about orphanages in Minnesota
from 1900 to about 1916...St. James in Duluth is very interesting but
they have no records. Anyone know
how to locate these records? My father, Harry Dollan(or similar
spelling), a twin brother and older sister were in an orphanage in MN
during this period. They were supposedly born in Montreal, Quebec and
somehow ended up in MN. Harry Dollan and twin were born, supposedly,
August 1, 1900, children
of Martin and Mary LaVon Dollan (Names here too, may be incorrect). I am
at a loss as to how, where or what to do as far as searching goes.
Help!!!!!!
Please respond directly if possible.
Thank you.

Steinmeyer/Bailey
Chicago, IL
I'm trying to find answers to some questions I have regarding my
grandfather's adoption. He was born Robert Steinmeyer on 10 April 1886
in Chicago, IL to Louis Charles and Rosa (Malcolm) Steinmeyer. According
to his birth certificate he was their third child. In 1893 he was
adopted by a Dr. Anna Eliza (Balwin) Bailey (age 54) in Chicago. Her
husband was William A. Bailey, but I think he was deceased at the time of
the adoption. According to my grandfather's adoption record (2 pages)
his parents were divorced, his name was changed to Benjamin Franklin
Bailey, and his birth mother was given "visitation" rights. My
questions are: 1) Was his parents divorce the cause of his his being
adopted out? 2) Where are his two older siblings? Were they adopted out,
placed in an orphanage, or stay with the father or mother? I believe his
parents were married in 1881, so his two older siblings were probably
between the ages of 8 and 11. 3) What happened to his parents? The 1890
census is not available and I have not found them yet on the 1900 census.
If you can help me even with the littlest clue I would certainly
appreciate hearing from you by email. Thank you. Carol

Sarah Ida Robinson
Lawrence Co. Tn.
1877
My great grand mother Sarah Ida ROBINSON was born September
16,1877 in Lawrence Co. Tn. according to adoption and papers and on one
of her children's birth certificates. She was adopted by John Shafer
WILSON and wife Delila Christine Boney. John Wilson petitioned the court
to change her name to Sarah Ida Wilson. He had taken charge of her in
November 1878.I don't have any information concerning what Robinson she
may have belonged to. I was always told that she was a "door
step" baby which meant she was abandoned. It is possible that her
mother was a Robinson and she was born out of wedlock. Ida married
Thomas Newton SMITH on March 8,1894in Perry Co. Tn. son of Josiah
Henderson Smith and Mary Jane GARNER of Hickman Co. Tn. Thomas died in
1912.She then
married a James Tucker in 1914.
In 1927 she migrated to Bolivar Co. Ms. with her son Elmer Harrison Smith
and died there in 1961. I am hoping that she may have had birth siblings
and can make contact with their descendants. [email protected]

FREY/FRYE
St. Paul's Roman Catholic Orphan Asylum, Pittsburgh, PA,
Allegheny County
1920+
Raymond FREY/FRYE born ca 1905 PA. He was first enumerated in the
1910 PA Fed Cenus under the name of Raymond FREY, age 4 yrs, inmate at
HOLY FAMILY CHILDREN's HOME, Cunningham Ave. New Castle,PA, Lawrence
County. I do have that census copy and have added the entire census of
29 person enumerated there on the rootsweb website, under Lawrence county
genealogy.
In 1920, PA Fed Cenus, he is enumerated as Raymond FRYE at St. Paul's
Roman Catholic Orphan Asylum, Pittsburgh,PA, Allegheny County.
Raymond's bio parents were Wallace Merle FRYE and Mary M.(Elizabeth)
HAMMOND (my grandmother). They divorced 1910 in New Castle,PA. both
remarried a few years later. Wallace remarried to a Phoebe SITSINGER
...they had two daughters..Madeline & Jean.
Wallace died 1927. Wallace Merle Frye had these siblings:
Frank, Charles L., and Daisy FRYE. Wallace's parents were--Edward
FRYE,born 1865,Youngstown,OHIO and wife, Irene Ella/Ellen HAYS/HAYES,born
1866,Wheatland,PA. (Note--this Edward, the grandfather of Raymond--his
parents were Daniel & Caroline FRYE).
Raymond's mother, Mary M.(Elizabeth) HAMMOND married 2ndly to Thomas John
BARTBERGER. Their children were: Alberta Jean(my mother),
Richard,Helen,Viola, and Eleanor BARTBERGER. All resided in New Castle,PA.
Raymond visited them several times and exchanged photos. I have a photo I
can email for comparisons. If anyone finds any records, photos,
information on him, please let me know. I would sincerely appreciate it.
He was last thought to have been married and residing somewhere near
Pittsburgh,PA or surrounding areas. Have nothing to confirm this however
as the family tried and tried to find him previously. I have been
researching my Hammond lines for nearly 40 yrs and have yet to find
further information on him. THANK YOU

WILSON OR SIKES
DUBUQUE COUNTY, IOWA / ROCHESTER, NY / FLORIDA
RESIDED IN FL 1920-1961
Searching for links to my grandfather who came to FL abt 1920 and
left his biological family behind. He said he was raised in a Catholic
Home, but grew angry when questioned about it. According to his ss
application his name was JAMES PAUL WILSON - everyone called him PETE -
b. Jan 20, 1904, Dubuque County, Iowa. His parents are listed on the ss
app as JAMES PAUL WILSON and EVA PEARL SIKES.
On an old insurance beneficiary form he lists his siblings as follows:
RUBY ALICE, CLAUDE LEROY, ALVIN EARL, AND ELMER WILSON.
He began his own family in FL around 1920 and died in Jacksonville, FL in
1961. A kind man, he rarely spoke of the family he left behind in his
teen years. Once he mentioned that he was in Rochester, NY for several
years living with his sister before coming to FL.
If anyone has any links to him or his family, please notify me. Thank
you for your time.

Brown
Somewhere in Arkansas
On the 1880 Greene Co., Ar census, town of Gainesville, Union
township, my grandfather John Byron Brown is listed with his father
Woodson Brown, age 35, mother Sallie H. Brown, age 26 & 2 sisters
Francis (Fannie) L. Brown, age 12 & Emma J. Brown, age 1. John's age
is 9. The story or stories go that his parents died close together about
1884. Emma was supposedly put in a foster home, John went to an orphans
home & we don't know where Fanny went. My mother never knew much
about her dad (John) but said he told her he was in an orphans home in
Athens, Tx. (no such home) and that he ran away when he was old enough to
get a job & raise Emma. I would like to know the people's name who
took Emma in & if I can find a listing of children in the orphans
homes in Arkansas in that time frame. Thank you for any information you
might give.

Julian/Genore/Longhway
Sisters of Mercy,
Montreal, Quebec
1841--?
I am looking for any information on a Catholic orphanage located
in Montreal, Quebec in the mid 1800's. My great grandmother, Mary Julian,
was orphaned at an early age and raised there until she worked as a
housekeeper and later married my great grandfather Octave Longhway
(Longeway, Longway) in Ontario (who was also adopted). On her death
certificate, her father's name is listed as Lewis Julian, although I
believe that he was her employer, not her father. Her mother is listed as
Catherine Genore (who was not married to Lewis Julian.)Her date of birth
was September 8, 1841. She and Octave lived in the Kingston, Ontario are
where he was a Master Mariner, and moved to Detroit, Michigan in the
early 1870's.
I would like to start my search but don't know where to start. Any leads,
hints or help would be appreciated.

Longhway/Longeway/Longway/Longsway/Laughway
Sudbury, Ontario
1830's
I am trying to find out adoption information on my great
grandfather Octave (Octavius) Longhway. The way the story goes, he and
his brother Alexander were orphaned at an early age; either they or their
parents were born in the Poland-Germany area. The family name was Sidkey.
They were adopted by their aunt and uncle in Sudbury, Ontario, Charles
and Caroline Longeway (which is most likely an anglicization of something
French.) The Longeways were affluent from lumber mills and mines. Octave
was born in 1831; he and Alexander are listed as the oldest children of
Charles and Caroline in the 1855 census living in Frontenac County,
Ontario. Octave was disinherited after his marriage to my great
grandmother, Mary Julian (see above) due to her background. Octave and
Mary moved to Detroit in the early 1870's; I do not know what happened to
Alexander, although there was an Alexander Longhway living in Oswego, NY
in 1890. I don't know how adoptions were handled in those days; whether
there was an agency or orphanange involved, I don't know. If anyone does
know, I would appreciate a response. Thanks!

Tilton
I am searching for information on William E Tilton.
I would like any information on His family or him.
William Edward Tilton was born September 4 1887. I am unsure of the
State. It may have been Ohio, Cincinnati area. William died September 17
1952 in Virginia.
William was an orphan, in 1891 at the age of 4 He was sent by train to
Beaverdam Virginia. There he was taken in by a Clemons or Clements
family. He was not adopted by them, he worked on their farm.
William remembered that all he had when he arrived in Virginia was a name
tag pinned to his shirt and traveled with another older boy, whom also
got off the train with him in Virginia.
William stayed in the Beaverdam area and married Rosa Pearl Cauthorne on
July 8 1917, in Beaverdam Virginia. They had 5 children. 4 are still
living.
If anyone has any information or can place any of this information to
thier family, please contact me.
I have been searching for 2 years and have contacted the Orphan train
society, looked threw census and still cannot find him.
There were not many Orphan trains to Virginia.
Thanks
