Cunningham
Vine Street Orphanage, Chattanooga, Tennessee USA
not sure, probably 1885
I am looking for any info regarding my grandfather, James C.
Cunningham. He was adoped out of the vine Street Orphanage by John
McMahan of Trenton Ga. The story from my mother was that he was
immigrated from Germany as a small boy and orphaned when he was 9 years
old. I know he was born in 1875. Unfortunately, I don't have many
details of his life before his adoption. I do know he had a brother named
John and a sister Gertrude. John was adopted by someone in Rome Ga. My
sister and I have hit a wall here, and have been searching for aprox. 10
years. If you have any information, it would be appreciated. You may
contact me at [email protected] or my sister at [email protected].
Also, the vine street orphanage still exists and is now called
Chattanooga Children's Home. Thanks in advance.

br> Short
Brooklyn, New York
1906-1915
Sarah Elizabeth[ Cashman] Short, wife of Samuel Short jr, died on
April 16,1906..Last know residence was 262-40th St. Brooklyn, N.Y.
After Sarahs death, her three daughters, Rose Ann, Ethel and Marion were
placed in what Marion[ my grandmother] described as a girls boarding
school...I am trying to find this facility as to access any records, by
doing this I hope to find any info on Samuel Short jr,,[-my great
grandfather] The only info on him from 1906 to now that we have on him is
that he remarried a lady of german decent, her name might have been
either Josie or Josephine,,,No last name...Because of circumstances with
the remarriage of Samuel, my grandmother never shared any memories of her
childhood with us.....I have posed on my website a picture of what I
believe to be the boardingshool that my grandmother resided in...Any info
would be greatly appreciated...

Johanna Weimer
South Dakota or North Dakota
Looking for birth parents of Johanna Weimer. She was born in
1876 (place unknown). Her marriage documents reveal that a Samuel
Billigmeier of McPherson County, SD was her legal guardian. She married
Friedrich Schaffer on 16 November 1893, resided in McPherson County until
approximately 1896, then moved to Wells County, ND, before moving to
Canada in 1906. Friedrich and Johanna had 6 children - Samuel born in
1894, John born in 1896, Katherine (Katie) born in 1898, Josephine born
in 1901, Matilda born in 1903, and Lydia born in 1905. The other 4
children were born in Canada. It appears Johanna was not legally adopted
by the Billigmeiers so there would be no adoption papers to research. Any
assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Teroy, Dollie Mae
Pemiscott County, Missouri
1886 to
1900
I have been trying to identify the orphanage where my
grandmother, Dollie Mae Teroy, lived until she was about 14. From what I
remember her telling me, it was in or near Portageville, MO. Her mother
died the day after she was born and she was placed in the orphanage. Her
father may have been a trapper, but he never returned to the area. She
married William Roy Hughes in 1901 and they had 3 children, 2 girls and a
boy. They farmed in and around Fisk and Poplar Bluff for years, before
moving back to Portageville and then to Hayti. Please contact me if you
know of this orphanage.

Roszell, Rozell, Roselle
(became Tarr)
Boise Children's Home
My Uncle was born DARIS RICHARD ROSZELL July 21, 1925, probably
in either Jerome or Twin Falls, Idaho to Dayle Paul Roszell and Mary
Kazia Peckham Roszell. After the divorce of Dayle and Mary, she was
unable to find a job with the children and put the children up for
adoption at the Boise Children's Home in Boise, Ada County, Idaho.
Daris was adopted by the Tarr family in Caldwell, Canyon County, Idaho
when he was about 1 year old. He died at age 16 years July 27, 1941. We
have photos of him sent by the Tarr's to my Grandmother, Mary Kazia
Peckham Roszell. The Tarr's were wonderful and kept Grandma informed
about how he was doing, etc.
I'm trying to find a way to get a copy of his birth and death
certificates. Idaho Vital Statistic's says that his records would have
been closed and that there's no way to get that information. Could
someone, please, tell me a way to do so?
I would, also, like to find out where he is buried and possibly get
information from others that the Tarr's adopted.
The other 2 children (my father, Sherman Edgar Roszell, and my Aunt, June
Ruth Roszell Stroup) were adopted by their Paternal grandparents over the
objections of my Grandmother and taught that she was a bad person and to
hate her. They learned differently after they were older and found her
again.
Thank you, in advance for any help you may be able to give me.
