Message Boards:
Posting
Posting instructions are provided below each input form as well as here, where a little more detail is given for those interested. Please be sure to proofread your information and content before clicking on the "Post Query" button. Once that button is clicked, you will not be able to edit your post.
When you click on "Post Query," your information will be posted immediately and you will be taken to a page entitled "Mail Merge Gateway." Before you can view your post on the board, you must return to the input form (i.e., the form you just completed). To do this, it is easiest to click on your browser's "back" button. IF you choose to click on the link "Return to form", you will be taken to an additional page, from which you must then click on your browser's back button twice to return to the input form. [If you try to edit your post at this time, the result will be 2 posts entered on the board: your initial post and the "edited" post.]
Once you return to the form, click on the text link for your board. The text link for either board can be found directly below the instructions at the end of the each form. This will take you to the board bearing your post.
If for some reason you don't make it back to the form, your post will appear on the board, and you can access it from the Orphans' Home Page by re-entering the Message Board Room.
**If, for some reason the board will not accept your post, (i.e., if you get a page of gibberish instead of the Mail Merge Gateway Page), please send your post to me in an e-mail and I will post it for you. Please put MESSAGE BOARD (in all caps) in the subject line.
Responding to a Post
Posts made to either board at this site will appear chronologically and not adjacent to the post for which the response was intended. I do, however, have the option of cutting and pasting to move responses next to the posts for which the responses were intended.
In this light, an entry has been provided on each form for those responding to the posts of others. Please be sure to include the name of the person, the date of the post, and 4 or 5 words re what it is you are responding to, i.e, "Jones Ancestors", or "Kansas Orphanage", etc. Some people will have more than one post, and some of the posts may contain more than one subject. Providing this information will identify your post as a response, pinpoint exactly to which post you are responding, and ensure that your response is placed with the correct post.
Archives
Messages posted to either board will be archived regularly: alphabetized by name of poster, ancestral surname, orphanage, location. The capability of archiving should be of benefit to all concerned. Please make sure the information you provide is as accurate as possible.
