In the archival collections of the Ashtabula County District Library System
there is housed an old hotel register. It is for the Fisk House that was on
Main Street in Ashtabula. This register covers 1861 through April 2, 1866,
when the hotel closed. In 1862, E.G. Gleason was proprietor. Under the date
of January 8, 1862, we find the following registration:

(Note: after the name Alfred Carpenter is the notation "Cleveland." The "f"
in the name Canafaud could be P or the double S.)

This is the complete list and no other information is available. Since the
Register is fragile, it cannot be xeroxed. There is no indication that any
of the children from this orphan train were placed here. The registration
must be taken at face value, as a stop over at the hotel, either for food
or for overnight lodging. The hotel also had a dining room, and the register
may have been used as a guest register. No other orphan train children are
listed in the hotel register.
