Marie Ann Nagel, 87, of Maumelle died Tuesday, March 14. A U.S. Navy nurse and veteran of World War II who reached the rank of lieutenant commander before she retired, she was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Little Rock.

A compassionate person who spent half her life taking care of her younger sister who developed Alzheimer's disease, Miss Nagel also devoted much of her time and money helping others in need.

The daughter of a storekeeper and his wife in Perry, she never married, choosing instead to stay in the service after the war until her retirement 20 years later.

"She had worked hard all her life and whenever she accumulated, she gave to others," said her nephew Dr. Fred Nagel. She was similarly dedicated to her church, family members said.

She was preceded in death by parents, Henry B. and Mary A. Nagel, three brothers, John, Fred and Carl Nagel, one sister, Henrietta E. Nagel.

She is survived by three sister-in-law, Faye Nagel of Morrilton, Eleanor Nagel of Jacksonville, Fla., and Theresa Nagel of San Diego; three nephews, John Nagel and wife Carolyn of Little Rock, Bill Nagel of St. Louis and Dr. Fred Nagel and wife, Lisa, of Maumelle; four nieces, Sharon Johnson and husband, Ed, of Layton, utah, Jane Taylor and husband, Robert of Jonesboro, Barbara Nagel of Austin, Texas, and Mary Livingston and husband, Kevin of San Diego.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, March 21 at Christ the King with Msgr. J. Gaston Hebert officiating. Burial was at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Morrilton.

Arthur Preston Nanney, 74, of North Little Rock, a retired station manager for Delta Airlines for 40 years, died Wednesday, Dec. 31.

He was a member of Park Hill Baptist Church, the Hurley Sunday School Class and Burns Park Men's Golf Association.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Nanney; three sons, Arthur Preston Nanney Jr. of Plano, Texas, Jerry Nanney of Austin, Ark., Terry Nanney of Mabelvale; one stepson, Richard Means of North Little Rock; one stepdaughter Ricky Jarvis of Little Rock; one sister Marie Calhoun of Memphis, Tenn.; and 11 grandchildren.

NantzeMartha W.Martha Emma Whitfield Nantze, 89, of North Little Rock, died Saturday, August 17. Mrs. Nantze was the widow of Irvin E. Nantze. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ida Emmerling, and a son-in-law, Joe Reddick.

She was a charter member of Amboy Baptist Church, the Gleaners Class, and was a homemaker.

She is survived by two sons, Edward Nantze, Jr. and wife Charlotte of Mayflower and Ralph Nantze and wife Esther of Bryant; two daughters, Evelyn Wasson and husband Bill of North Little Rock and Jean Reddick of Bee Branch; two sisters, Ruth Stone of Perryville and Clara Johnson of Collinsville, Ill.; 14 grandchldren; 28 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchldren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 20, at the North Little Rock Funeral HOme Chapel with Dr. Wayne West officiating.

Burial was in Edgewood Memorial Park in North Little Rock.

Donald Fredrick "P.D." Nash, 63 of Little Rock, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, Mr. Nash was a sergeant in the United States Army and served as a Pulaski County Deputy Sheriff for 10 years.

Frank D. Neighbors Jr., 68, of Little Rock, died Friday, Oct. 16.

He was the son of Frank D. Neighbors, who died in a motorcycle accident while on active duty with the North Little Rock Police Department in 1929, and Emma Davis Neighbors.

Mr. Neighbors was a retired civil engineer, a graduate of North Little Rock High School and the University of Arkansas, and served on active duty in the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne and 42nd Engineer Construction Battalion. He worked for the Arkansas Highway Department and was later vice-president of Ben M. Hogan Company and presiden to St. Frances Material Co.

He is survived by one son, James C. Neighbors of Russellville; two daughters, Julia A. Neighbors of Peachtree City, Ga., and Vanessa Doane of Dallas; granddaughter, Kimberly Stanbery of Dallas; grandson, Alexander Doane; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Thelma Halliburton and Janice Massery of North Little Rock.

He was an Army Veteran of World War II and retired from the Department of Finance and Administration.

Oba Wesley Noble, 88, of Jacksonville, died Sunday, Aug. 25, A deacon and trustee of Life Tabernacle Pentecostal Church, he was a charter member of the North Little Rock Pilots Club, and opened and operated the North Little Rock Airport.

He was a licensed aircraft mechanic and held a commercial multi-engine Land and Sea Pilots Rating. He was the recipient of the Charles Taylor 50 year Mechanics Award.

Thomas Wayne Norman, 71, of Jacksonville, died Monday, May 8. Thomas was an active member of First Christian Church, working with their food pantry and Our House program. He was an Elder Emeritus and State President of Arksansas Disciples Men.

He was a veteran of both the U.S. Navy and Army, he retired from Tyson Foods. He was a five year member of Master Gardeners of Pulaski County and a member of the Arkansas Beekeepers Association. He was preceded in death by his mother and dad, Ellen and Homer Norman and brother Clyde.

NosalDannyDanny Nosal of North Little Rock, died Friday, Jan. 8. WIthout any known health problems, Mr. Nosal died suddenly and peacefully in his sleep. He was 51.

He had worked for the City of Maumelle since last June, landscaping lawns and doing his part to make the city more beautiful.

"He always loved the outdoors. I guess God was calling him home," said his wife, Linda Davidson Nosal.

Born in 1948 to Andrew and Rose Miller of North Little Rock, Mr. Nosal was a graduate of Catholic High School. It was in his senior year there that he met his future wife, a North Little Rock High School senior, who lived a few blocks down the road from him.

The couple dated for eight years before marrying in 1974 and building a house on MacArthur Drive, where they raised the aughter and son, Rhonda, now 21 and Stephen 16.

Mr. Nosal worked for 16 years at Carrier Corp. in Maumelle until the plant closed, an at D & D Radiator for 14 years after that.

But the center of his life was his church, the Immaculate Heart of Mary, where he was part of the 15 member Rosary Sodality prayer group that says the Rosary daily.

As is their tradition, the other 14 members faithfully stood by his casket at his 10 a.m. funeral mass last Monday, which was officiated by msgr. Bernard Malone. Burail follwed in the Immaculate Hears of Mary Cemetery.

Besides his wife and two children, Mr. Nosal is survived by hs mother and sister, Betty Miller, both of North Little Rock.

Nancy J. Stiles O'Lien, age 82, of Jacksonville, died Tuesday, Sept. 23.

She was a member of Landmark Baptist Church. She retired from Dr. Burlesons' office at the age of 80. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert J. O'Lien and son, Albert J. O'Lien and son Albert Dale O'Lien.

Survivors are her daughter, Nancy Lee O'Lien of Jacksonville; son, Rodger G. O'Lien of Jacksonville; sister, Chole Davis of Malvern; a brother, Frank Stiles of Lono; granddaughter, Nancy Dawn Ponder of Pensacola, Fl.; two grandsons, David Ponder of Pensacola, Fl, and Joseph O'Lien of Sherwood.

James Ward "High Yield" or "Big Boss Man" O'Neal, 76 of North Little Rock, a retired farmer and World War II Army veteran, died Sunday, Aug 6.

He was a member of Levy Church of Christ, the American Legion, the Southern Farmers Association, and the Arkansas Farm Bureau Federation. For the last 15 years he was a produce salesman.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Vestal O'Neal, a brother, Charles O'Neal, and sisters, Martie Hearon and Jimmie Lou Carling.

He is survived by his wife, Ola O'Neal; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy and Shirley O'Neal of Conway, Dale and Sandra O'Neal of Lonoke; a daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Doug Chapman of Scott; a stepdaughter, Jackie Carrington of North Little Rock; two sisters, Mary Taylor and Georgia Martin, both of North Little Rock; five grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at Huson Funeral Home Chapel with Gary Neal officiating. Interment was in Mulberry Cemetery in England.

Alta Mae Hutchins Odom, 83, of North Little Rock, died Thursday, Oct. 7. Born in Pine Mountain near Bee Branch, she was a member of Sylvan Hills First Baptist Church and the Abundant Lifers.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie Newton Odom; her parents, John William and Lida Loyd Hutchins of Pine Mountain; sister, Lela, Mary, Evie, Clara, Cordia and Naomi; and brothers, Mitchell, Luther and Hulen Hutchins.

Survivors include two sisters, Betha Allen of Cabot and Lois H. Rowlett of Greenbrier; and many nephews and nieces.

She was a pillar of strength to the family members, who always opened her home for their visits. She was the binding force in the famly who holds together their love and friendship.

U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. James C. Oliver of Sherwood, died Saturday, June 3.

He was an enlisted B-17 gunner in World War II flying 35 combat missions in the European Theater. He received a direct commission during the Korean War, and served until 1970 in various staff assignments. He served in England, France, Germany, Greenland, Alaska and South Vietnam. His decorations included the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, seven Air Medals, three Air Force Commendation Medals and the Army Commendation Medal.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Bette. Survivors include two daughters, Patti Martinka of Sherwood and Amy Crumpton of Memphis; and three grandchildren, Mollie and Melissa Martinka and Emma Crumpton.

Sergeant Orr, son of W.H. Orr of Hollis, Okla., came to Camp Robinson in 1940 from Stillwater, Okla., where he had enlisted. He was a member of the 35th Division and had been in France since June. He was a combat veteran of World War II as a member of the 8th Air Force in bombing missions over Germany. He retired from the Arkansas Army National Guard with the rank of colonel after serving 34 years.

He was a member of Lakewood United Methodist Church in North Little Rock, Big Rock Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and Scimitar Shrine of Little Rock and National sojourners Chapter 166.

Rev. William J. Ouzts, 74, of North Little ROck passed away Monday, Jan. 6, 1997. He was a minister for 45 years prior to his retirement. He was a minister for the Pentecostal Church of God and attended Lynch Drive Assembly of God. He also was minister for Transient Lodge and was a navy veteran of World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Omeida Carr Ouzts of North Little Rock; one son, William E. Ouzts of LaPorte, Tex.; one brother; Bill Ouzts of North Little Rock; one half brother, Charles Ouzts of Lonoke; four grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Jimmie DeGonia and four brothers.

Gladys Marie McKinney Owens, 84, of North Little Rock, died Thursday, Jan. 25.

A native of Independence County near Batesville, she was a graduate of the Baptist State Hospital School of Nursing. She worked in Morrilton as a school nurse and as a registered nurse at St. Anthony's Hospital. She then was a nursing supervisor at the VA Hospital where she retired after 21 years.

She was a member of the Park Hill Christian Church and a former member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employers (NARFE) and the Shepherd's Center. She was a volunteer for the Retired & Senior Volunteer Program.

She is survived by two daughters, Rosemary Brenner of Virginia, and Julie Kathryn Dennis of Memphis; one brother, Kenneth W. McKinney and wife Hazel of Texas; grandson, Jason Stuart Dennis of Memphis; two step-granddaughters Terry Kell and husband Skip of Stockton, N.J.; Rosemarie Doyle of Rosemont, N.L.; and three great-grandsons, David Kell, John Kell, Brandon Doyle; and one step-great-granddaughter Candyce Doyle, all of New Jersey.
