James Delton Pierson, 79, of North Little Rock, retired from the U.S. Postal Service, died Thursday, March 15. He was a Baptist, a retired Army veteran of World War II who was stationed at Fort Shafer, Hawaii, when Pearl Harbor was bombed, and a veteran of the Korean War.

He is survived by his wife Berta Pierson of North Little Rock; daughter Karen Pierson of Little Rock; four sons, Donald Lee Pierson of Sherwood, Joe Pierson of Birmingham, Ala., David and James Pierson Jr., both of Germany; two sisters, Dorothy Kuykendall of Choctaw and Lois Finch of Ponca City, Okla.; and four grandchildren, and family in Austria.

Loyd Lee Pittman, 65, of North Little Rock, died Saturday, March 29.

He was a retired purchasing agent with Union Pacific Railroad after 40 years of service. He was a dedicated member of Gardner Memorial United Methodist Church and the Fidelis Sunday School Class.

He is survived by his wife, Carol; sons, Jay Pittman of Portland, Ore., Kelley Pittman of Little Rock, and Tim Pittman of Jacksonville; daughters, Niki Kamarunas of North Little Rock, Sarah Kahl of Prairie Grove; brothers, Jim Pittman of Carlisle, Bill Pittman of Paragould, Curly Pitman of Monette, Bobby Pittman of Ripley, Tenn.; sisters, Shirley McMurray of Ft. Worth, Texas., Joyce Ward of Blytheville, and 10 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parent, James A. and Zula Mae Pittman and brothers, Billy and Larry Pittman.

William "Bill" M. Plunkett, 78 of North Little Rock, died Sunday, Jan. 28. He was a member of Lakewood Methodist church, a United States Army Veteran who served as seargent first class in World War II.

He owned the Datsun/Nissan dealership in Little Rock from 1964-1978. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, a Life member of the Arkansas Automobile Dealers Association, a member of the Arkansas Travelers Automobile Club, on the board of the Museum of Automobiles at Petit Jean Mountain and secretary of Arkansas Automobile Vehicle Commission.

He is survived by his wife, Barbard Plunkett; a son William M. Plunkett II and wife Susan of Texas, a step-son, Bradley Smith and wife Cindy of Sherwood; grandsons, William M. Plunkett II and wife Julie of Denver and Whitney R. Plunkett and wife Sara of Kansas; and great-grandson William M. Plunkett IV.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Glenda Vanlandingham.

Ruth C. Powell, of North Little Rock, emeritus assistant professor at the University of Arkansas, died Friday, Oct. 8. She retired after 12 years on the faculty at UALR. She taught business education in the high schools at North Little Rock, Little Rock, Grand Prairie, Texas, Arkansas Polytecnic College and the Pulaski Vo-Tech School

Born in England, Ark., the daughter of Henry and Hattie Cope, she receiver her bachelor's degree from the University of Central Arkansas in Conway, her master's from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and graduate work at Southern Methodist University and at Columbia University in New York.

She was a charter member of the Eta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma in North Little Rock, a member of the AARP, a member of the Arkansas Business Education Association and an honorary member of the National Secretaires Association. In 1968 she was selected as the Arkansas Business Education Teach of the Year.

She was a member of the Park Hill Baptist Church where she was secretary of the Watson Sunday School Class.

Survivors include nieces Jim O'Lee Angel of Sherwood, Mattie Ayers of Maryville, Tenn., Shirley Burch and husband Don of Phoenix, and Thelma Cope of Little Rock; great-nieces Debi Raper and husband Bryon of Sherwood, Tami Henderson and husband, P.J. of Albuquerque, N.M., Donna Close and husband, Don of Chattanooga, Tenn.; great-nephews Cecil Burch and wife Eileen, Dan Burch and wife Sheryl of Phoenix.

Eva Jane Power, of North Little Rock, died Tuesday, Sept. 24.

Born in Hempstead County, she was a graduate of AM&N College in Magnolia and taught school for several years. Moving from Hope to North Little Rock in 1949, she continued to substitute teach and raise four children.She also worked for many years in the family business, All-State School Supply, and owned the Camelot Hotel Gift Shop for several years.

She was a member of Park Hill Baptist Church, North Little Rock Women's Club, Gideons Auxiliary, Business & Professional Women, and the PTA.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul H. Power, and a son, Mike Power. She is survived by one son, John Mark Power of North Little Rock, and two daughters, Paula Reed and Mary Power, of Sherwood; brother, Fairrel Rider of Patmos, Ark; four grandchildren, John Paul Power, Scott Kent Broyles and Sarah Elizabeth Broyles, all of North Little Rock, Great-granddaughter, Grayson Elizabeth Broyles; nephews, David B. PradoValentineDr. Valentine Pardo, 94, of North Little Rock, died Friday, August 23. Dr. Pardo was born in Placentas, Cuba, on Valentine's Day in 1902. He left Cuba in 1920 and came to New York City where he attended New York University with a degree in dentistry. He practiced dentistry for a year and then decided to attend medical school at Kansas City Medical College where he graduated, then came to Arkansas Baptist Hospital in Little Rock and the Marshall Clinic to do his internship.

In 1930 the U.S. government contracted for six-months with Dr. Pardo and three other physicians to go to eastern Arkansas to fight infectious diseases. At the end of the six months, Dr. Pardo rented an office and maintained a three-county medical practice for 56 years. In 1932, Dr. Pardo returned to New York City and married Rose Palazzola and brought her to Arkansas where she worked with him for many years, helping transport patients to and from hospitals in other towns. Dr. Pardo never refused to treat someone because they could not afford to pay.

He delivered over 4,800 babies and made house calls with a mule and a jeep in the '30s and '40s, often he was paid with a hog or cow as payment.

He retired from his medical practice in 1986 and had been residing with his daughter in North Little Rock.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Rose Pardo of Monroe; daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann and Joe Baxter of North Little Rock; a granddaughter, Rose Ann Hansen of Atlanta; two grandsons; one great-grandson; two brothers, Roman Pardo of Florida and Ciro Pardo of Monroe; and two sisters, Maria Gonzales and Margot Pardo, both of Florida.

Funeral Mass was held Monday, August 26, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Rev. Benedict Meyer and Rev. Ralph L. Bauer officiating. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery at Brinkley.

James R. "J.R." Pratt, age 76, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend died Tuesday, Dec. 16. Born in Dardanelle, he was a verteran of World War II. He retired from Fort Roots V.A. Hospital and the Army National Guard then worked eight years at Sherwood Elementary.

He was an active member of First Assembly of God, North Little Rock, where he served as a Deacon and usher for many years. He was an avid supporter of the Arkansas Razorback Athletic program.

He was preceded in death by a son, James R. Pratt Jr. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Fannie C. (Stewart) Pratt; one daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Patrick E. McGinnis of Denver, Colorado; two precious grandchildren, Megan Marie and James Patrick McGinnis, also of Denver; one brother Charles L. "Red" Pratt of New Mexico and many nieces and nephews.

She attended the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, and retired as a research administrator for UAMS and Children's Hospital. She loved and sold antiques, played the piano and loved animals and flowers.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Prentice; two sons, William Gill and Kristopher Graves, both of North Little Rock; two sisters, Martha Ballentine of North Little Rock and Mary Hardin of Russellville; two brothers, David Bowen of Ann Arbor, Mich., and Danny Bowen of North Little Rock; grandson, Justin Gill of Jacksonville; and three step-children, Sonia Simpson and Phyllis Prentice of North Little Rock and Mark Prentice of Orlando, Fla.

She was a member of Baring Cross Baptist Church and served in many areas of the church, also was a Sunday School Teacher for the Amoma Ladies Class. She was a member of the Baptist Memorial Medical Center Advisory Council for several years. She was very active in Gideons International Ladies Auxiliary.

Eva Dean Price, 76, of North Little Rock, died Wednesday, Feb. 5. She was a member of the Church of Christ and a former employee of the Little Rock School District.

She is survived by three brothers, Charles, Basil and Bobby Price; three sisters, Robbie Grubbs-Lewis of North Little Rock, Dorothy Hankins and Nelda Walkewicz of Houston, Texas; and three brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law.

Jackie N. (Hall) Quick, 61, an accomplished painist and music teacher, died Friday, Sept. 25, after a prolonged illness.

A graduate of North Little Rock High School, she attended college at Quachita Baptist College. She ministered as an instrumentalist for Lackland Baptist Church in San Antonio. She also worked 19 years in the cardiology surgery department at the University of Texas Health Science Center.

She is survived by her husband, Billy Quick; sons Darrell and John; brothers Robert and Delton Hall; and sisters, Lynell Pack and Betty Stokes.
