Memories of Ireland
HAROLD MORGAN STANLEY - extracts from letters to his father,
George Wilson Stanley in Ireland from Canada

May 3, 1911

I am sorry for not having answered your letter before, but I have been rather busy seeding wheat. And now I have about 60 acres more but I cannot put it all in, it will be too late. I am so sorry to hear you have been unwell, but I hope by now you will have quite recovered.  As to your questions, I will try and answer them.

Avery has not paid anything except what we paid jointly out of the earnings of the rig. Now we are not quite clear. I have not told you before but at one time there was $90 to be paid on rig but he had a Judgment against him and fearing they would seize the rig as it was the only thing they could touch I paid his debt and he has not paid it back as he promised but I hope he will yet. The company know he has not done his share and their collector whom I know well is trying to get it out of him. Some of the people are poor, pay some good, but mostly all pay after a time.  Now I will close as I have some visitors so goodbye. Ever your loving son.
