TAYLOR family:
Richard and Ann Taylor came from
Manchester. They were married in Ashton Under Lyne on 2nd June 1852. Richard was a cotton spinner, and the son of Richard Taylor and Anna (nee Thompson.) Ann’s parents were James and Mary Shaw. Also on board The British Crown were Ann’s sister Sarah Whitehead, and her family. Both families settled in Kaiapoi and remained close. The Taylor’s had a further two children born in NZ, Maria (1864) and Henry Shaw Taylor (1866.) Richard died of TB, aged 47, in 1876 and was buried in the Kaiapoi Church of England cemetery. Ann died and was buried in Halcombe, Rangitikei in 1898. Richard and Ann Taylor were my g-g-grandparents.
