Noeline Cottam

A sight I will never forget!
This is the personal recollection of Noeline Cottam concerning PAMIR

It was a glorious sunny day and several hundred of us children had been waiting bored and impatient on the side of Mt Victoria at Devonport for what seemed a lifetime.  Devonport District School was built on the slopes and we had been all marched up the hill and were sitting near the summit waiting for a ship to appear.  I don't think that we knew what to expect, but my memory of seeing the PAMIR come over the horizon in full sail and majestically glide into the Hauraki Gulf, past Rangitoto, and enter Auckland harbour, was a sight that I will never forget. Fifty years on - it just seems like yesterday!
