Pamir Memory
This is the personal recollection of Pam Makarewich concerning
PAMIR
As a young child in the late 1940's I was taken by my parents to see the
Pamir which was docked in Auckland. I remember the experience quite vividly.
The woodwork and metal shone brilliantly in the sunlight. Looking down through a skylight
we were able to see a table set with a white linen tablecloth and silverware . We
were told it was the Captain's table. What helped me to remember the name of
the vessel through the years was the association I had made with my own name. I
remember how sad I felt when I heard that the Pamir had sunk.
