CAMPBELL family:
George CAMPBELL was born at St. Nicholas, Aberdeen, Scotland in 1840 to George Campbell and Margaret Weir. He was a brass moulder by trade. Before departing for New Zealand he married Christina Fraser, daughter of George and Rachel (nee Gray) Fraser, born January 12th 1844, at St. Nicholas, Aberdeen, Scotland. They arrived in Auckland on August 31st 1864 on board the ship "Portland" with their baby daughter, Rachel born in Aberdeen on March 19th 1864. Their  fare had been paid by Christina's brother, George FRASER, who owned a successful Engineering Works and Foundry at Mechanics Bay in Auckland who was to employ his brother-in- law on their arrival. Ten more children were born at Parnell in Auckland:
1)   Georgina Fraser, born May 20th 1866 - died January 19th 1907
2)   Annie McNicol born October 29th 1868 - died August 8th 1912
3)   Catherine Munro born January 26th 1871- died July 16th 1921
4)   John born May 21st 1873 - died October 10th 1938
5)   Jean born September 9th 1875 - died December 3rd 1935
6)   Christina born November 8th 1877 - died April 20th 1939
7)   Alexander born January/February 1879 - died December 1st 1879
8)   Margaret Weir born January 6th 1881 - died May 12th 1927
9)   Elsie born January 8th 1884 - died February 12th 1941
10) George born July 9th 1886 - died November 11th 1918
Both Margaret and Christina jnr went to WW1 and nursed at the front line. George jnr, was a victim of the Great Flu Epidemic. George snr died on May 9th 1904 at Parnell. His wife Christina died on May 17th 1929 at Ponsonby in Auckland. Both are buried at Symonds Street Cemetery, Auckland.
