91st PA--origins of the regiment

Life in the 91st PA

Note Many of the pages listed in the subject index include information relevant to daily life. I will add more to them, and refer to them here, in the future.

Courts martial Most court martials were for absence without leave or for desertion. But in a few cases, men were court martialed for refusing to obey orders, or for conduct unbecoming an officer.

Leaves The army allowed sick leaves, and eventually allowed rare furloughs for home visits. Also, all soldiers who reenlisted as veteran volunteers received a leave in January 1864.
