John Buzby (G) wrote a four-page letter describing the battle, on 13 May 1864. It was sold at a firearms auction featuring the Wiley Sword collection (searched 14 February 2005).

• John L Robinson, co E, intentionally wounded himself
• Joseph H Smith was absent from his company during the battle, and was therefore reduced to the ranks
• Augustine Montgomery was taken captive
