Since the regiment was initially recruited in Philadelphia, it's unsurprising that the most common birthplace in company E is Philadelphia (40%). About half of the men were born in Pennsylvania.
However, about one-quarter were born outside the United States. The most common birthplace outside the United States was Ireland. Others include Germany, England, Scotland, Canada, France, and Wales.
