During the war

He was drafted on 28 February 1865 (1, 2, 6). He was mustered into service as a private on 28 February 1865 at Chambersburg, Pennsylvania (1, 2). He was a private, in company F (1, 7-9).

He was discharged by general order on 20 July 1865 (1, 2, 6 [28 July 65]). He was a private, in company F (7-9).

After the war

In 1880, he was living in Adams County, Pennsylvania (5). He was living with Catherine (presumably his wife), and with four children (presumably theirs) (5). He was a laborer (5).

On 11 July 1881, he successfully applied from Pennsylvania for a pension (3, 6).

In 1890, he was living in Conewago, Adams County, Pennsylvania (4).

On 12 February 1907, he again applied for a pension (6).

He died on 23 March 1918, at Baltimore, Maryland (6).

On 22 April 1918, his widow, Catharine McClain, successfully applied for a pension (3, 6).
