When he enlisted, he was a laborer (5).

Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 5 inches tall, and had a fair complexion, blue eyes, and sandy hair (5).

During the war

He enlisted and was mustered into service on 19 September 1861 (1, 5, 6 [19 Aug], 12). He was enlisted for three years, by Captain Smith, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (5). He was a private in company F (1, 13).

On 19 April 1863, he was sent to the corps hospital (2).

He was transferred to the Veterans reserve corps (3). When transferred, he was a private, in company F (13). He served in company C of the 1st Veterans reserve corps (12, 13).

He mustered out at Washington DC on 2 November 1864 when his term expired (1, 4, 5, 6 [28 Nov], 7, 12). He had served for 38 months (9, 10, 11 [26 months]).

After the war

On 17 February 1880, he unsuccessfully applied for a pension (8, 12).

In 1890, he was living at Holsheim Avenue and 87th Street, in the 27th ward of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (6).

On 28 September 1892, he was admitted to the National Soldiers Home (9, 10, 11). He was admitted from the DIstrict of Columbia (9, 10, 11 [Pa]). He had rheumatism (9, 10, 11). He was apparently not receiving a pension (9, 10).

In 1893, he was present in the Pacific [?] Branch of the National Soldiers Home (11). He was apparently not receiving a pension (11).

In 1894, he was present in the Southern Branch of the National Soldiers Home (9).

On 18 February 1895, he was dropped from the Southern Branch of the National Soldiers Home (10).
