Before the war

He was born in 1840/41 (10 (20 in 1861)).

When he enlisted, he was a clerk, and was living in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (10).

Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 6 inches tall, and had a light complexion, blue eyes, and light hair (10).

During the war

He enlisted and was mustered into service, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on 20 August 1861 (1, 9, 10, 11). He was mustered in as a musician, in company A (1, 9, 10, 13-14).

He was in the Provost Marshall's office in Alexandria Virginia on 26 July 1862, when Captain Bowman struck Lieutenant Kayser (7). He was probably working as a clerk (7). He testified at Alpheus Bowman's general court martial, on 20 August 1862 (7).

He fought at the Battle of Gettysburg (12).

He reenlisted as a veteran volunteer, at Bealton, Virginia, on 26 December 1863 (1, 10).

On 2 March 1864, Colonel Gregory detached him for duty with the recruiting service in Chester, Pennsylvania (2, 4). On 27 April 1864, Sinex asked that he be returned to the regiment (3).

On 8 June 1864, he was detailed for duty in Brigade headquarters (5). On 4 July 1864, he was detailed by Colonel Gregory for duty at brigade headquarters (6, 8 [5 July]). In September [?] 1864, he was still a clerk at brigade headquarters (8).

He began working in the Adjutant General's office on 14 December 1864 (11).

He mustered out on 10 July 1865 with his company (1, 10). He was a musician, in company A (13-14).

After the war

He continued in "general service" until 22 June 1868 (11). He served again in "general service" from 17 August 1868 until 1 August 1869 (11). He served again in "general service" beginning 15 April 1872 (11).

On 15 June 1878, he was working in the Adjutant-General's Office, War Department, Washington, DC (11). Two other men who had served in the 91st were also working there: Franklin B Miller (A, F&S), and Joseph S Miller (A) (11).
