During the war

He enlisted and was mustered 13 October 1861, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was a private, in company B. [sources: 1, 6]

He was promoted to corporal. [sources: 3, 6, 12 (mustered in as corporal), 13 (mustered in as corp)]

On 14 April 1862, he was responsible for the guard at Douglas Hospital, and posted Patrick Gallagher and Joseph Keen as sentinels, although they were drunk. [source: 11]

On 1 May 1862, he testified at the trials of Patrick Gallagher and Joseph Keen. [source: 11]

He was killed in action on 3 May 1863 at Chancellorsville, Virginia. He was a corporal in company B. He was apparently originally buried at Camback's Mill, Virginia. He was buried in the Fredericksburg National Cemetery, Fredericksburg, Virginia. [sources: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 13]
