Before the war

Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 9 inches tall, and had a fair complexion, grey eyes, and dark hair. [source: 3]

During the war

He also served in company I of the 141st Pennsylvania. [sources: 5, 6]

He was a substitute. He enlisted and was mustered into service on 7 October 1864. He enlisted for one year, at Tonawanda, Pennsylvania. His service was credited to the thirteenth Congressional District. He was mustered in as a private in company H. [sources: 1, 3, 10]

He was killed in action on 27 October 1864 at Boynton Road, Hatcher's Run, Virginia. He was a private, in company H. [source: 1, 2, 3, 4, 9, 10]

After the war

On 4 February 1884, his father, Richard M Bennett, applied successfully from Pennsylvania for a pension. [sources: 5, 6]
