Before the war

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 6 inches tall, and had a dark complexion, grey eyes, and dark hair. [source: 3]

During the war

He was drafted from Tyrone Township, Adams County, Pennsylvania. He enlisted and was mustered into service on 28 February 1865. He enlisted for one year, at Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, by Captain Eyster. His service was credited to the 16th Congressional District. He was a private in company G. [sources: 1, 3, 11, 13]

He received clothing worth $41.05. [source: 3]

He deserted on 16 June 1865 from camp near Washington DC. He was a private, in company G. [sources: 1, 2, 11, 13]

After the war

When the Confederate Army invaded Pennsylvania in 1863, they took a saddle, a halter and chain, a buggy whip, and lumber from his farm, and damaged his corn, burned rails, and used and destroyed hay. He applied for damages on 22 October 1868, and was awarded $100.50 on 23 November 1871. [sources: 6, 11]

In 1870, he was living in Tyrone Township, Adams County, Pennsylvania. He was a wagonmaker, and owned $2,500 in real estate and $700 in personal property. He was living with his wife Mary, and children Margaret, William, Jacob and Clinton. [source: 8]

In 1880, he was living in Tyrone Township, Adams County, Pennsylvania. He was a wagonmaker. He was living with his wife MaryAnn, son Clinton, and a niece. [source: 9]

On 14 February 1883, he applied unsuccessfully from Pennsylvania for a pension. [sources: 4, 10]

He died on 12 March 1888, in Heidlersburg, Tyrone Township, Adams County, Pennsylvania. He was buried in Heidlersburg Cemeter, Heidlersburg, Adams County, Pennsylvania. [sources: 6, 11]
